How to decorate a spice box. How to store spices in the kitchen: hacks and stylish ideas. A small do-it-yourself house for storing bags of spices, seasonings, tea

I continue to create something, mostly useful in the house. I made myself a box for spices, although in the future I plan to buy myself a plastic container, there are a lot of such ideas on the Internet, but so far I’m not up to shopping, so I’ll use my own. I confess, I made such a box a few months ago and I'm crazy about it, it is dense, holds its shape well, is washable and, most importantly, it is convenient to use and the size is just right for spice bags.

This is how she is in her true form.

Looking at the photo, you might think that it is somehow not neat, all wrinkled .... in fact, I achieved this - wrinkling, but I only dream of neatness, I do everything quickly, in one breath, because my youngest does not give me anything to do, I manage to take advantage of it when she sleeps.

As you can see, I used the decoupage technique, then there will be a small process

My husband made such a box for me, or rather two of them, but I only had enough for one, I’ll miss decoupage a little and start with the second one, because there’s a sea of spices, one will be mine, the other of my husband (he’s my lover of making heh from fish and he has his own special spices, which he buys to order)

At first I glued it with napkins, I realized that I was stupid, the napkin was not visible on the box, then I rolled up the toilet paper, and glued it to the box with folds with PVA glue, dried it ... I wanted just such a structure ..

I painted it with paint (the acrylic ran out, covered it with the usual facade, smelly, dried it in the pantry, for a long time ...) Now, after a while, I realized that the most best paint- this is an ordinary emulsion for walls and ceilings, now I use only it.

It remains only to decoupage, but I really love this business, I glued motifs from a napkin with pleasure

Of course, I opened it with varnish and the box turned out to be very strong, as if wooden, interesting to the touch, even at that time I had an old camera and I could not convey the true look.

Cooking is my hobby, my passion! I am subscribed to a bunch of communities, groups and forums on this topic, I have like-minded virtual friends, and relatives and even casual acquaintances have long voluntarily become experimental tasters.
And since culinary experiments do not stop for a single day, yesterday we had an Italian dinner, today we returned to Russian cuisine, and tomorrow we will enjoy oriental dishes. And for each recipe, in order for the food to have an authentic touch and taste, special spices and seasonings are needed.
Now there are no problems with this. It used to be that spices were valued more than gold and were a universal currency. Today in any supermarket or small shop you can always find the most popular fragrant bags, and even rarities are found - vanilla pods, saffron stigmas, pink pepper ... And on country garden or window sill can be grown good harvest spicy herbs.
I have a decent supply of seasonings, spices and dried herbs - I buy individual bags in the store (black pepper, cloves, oregano) or ready mixes(for chicken, for fish, for salad), I look at the market in an oriental shop, where I either choose a mono-spice, or ask me to mix a “bouquet” for pilaf or lagman, I dry my grown herbs (parsley, dill, basil, thyme) , I order on the Internet hard-to-reach or ask friends to bring something special overseas.
So if in a nutshell - I love and respect all these odorous things. And with great interest I read articles and newsletters on this topic. Recently, an article came to my mail “How to store spices” - a lot useful tips about jars and cabinets, but in fact - everything is beautiful, stylish, but this does not happen in life.
In parallel, it so happened that at one of the culinary forums we were just discussing the storage of spices - housewives and chefs shared their desires and dreams.

  • spices are either hidden in lockers,
  • or these bright jars are part of the interior.

The most common option is ready-made spice sets wooden coasters . They can be placed on the wall or on kitchen table. This is a great (and expensive!) gift.
There are options with empty jars, then the hostess herself will fill them with her favorite seasonings according to her taste.
And small woodworking workshops make such shelves to order - according to your size and capabilities.

Similar shelves for spices are also made of metal- they look especially great in high-tech kitchens, where there is a lot of chrome and strict shiny surfaces.
You can buy a shelf immediately with filled or empty jars, or put your already assembled fragrant collection of spices there.
It is not necessary to look for such shelves only in specialized kitchen stores; various options for the bathroom or all kinds of shelves and baskets for wardrobes.

An interesting solution would be special jars that can be hung on kitchen rails. Then all the utensils and favorite spices will be in sight and at hand.
You can choose from such jars with certain color covers (under the doors of a kitchen set or under the metal of the handles) or assemble a set for shovels and openers from one manufacturer.

If you do not want to clutter up the kitchen with large hinged shelves, and the rails are occupied by the necessary kitchen utensils, but there is still some space on the wall, narrow shelves- great way out!
They can be made infinitely long or vice versa short, the jars on such shelves will fit only in one row and will not cover each other.
This option is a real scope for creativity: shelves can be built from textured boards, leftovers ceiling plinths, take a closer look at the finished shelves for paintings (with emphasis). They can be painted any color or left as is. Place strictly identical jars on them or put your entire collection of assorted bottles there.

Another solution when all the spices are in one place is different "carousels". They come from different materials(wood, metal, plastic), immediately with spices or with empty jars. It is also one of the favorite gifts for hostesses who “have everything”.
On the one hand, this “carousel” is convenient to carry from place to place, on the other hand, it takes up a lot of space in a closet or on working surface. Another inconvenience - not so many spices and seasonings will go there.

In general, any surface can be used to store spices and the necessary jars with anything.
For example, magnetic boards or refrigerator side. For these purposes, many manufacturers have special jars with magnets on the bottom, or you can stick small magnets on the lids yourself (you can look for them in “everything for the holiday” stores or where they sell furniture fittings)

Here is another interesting life hack for skilled chefs - glue or drill jar lids on the bottom of the cabinet(Anyway, the place usually disappears there). To use the desired spice, simply unscrew the jar from the fixed lid.
The only disadvantage of this solution is that the lower part of the cabinets will be permanently damaged.
By the way, in this way you can store not only spices, but also small items for needlework or various nails and screws.

All these ideas are wonderful - beautiful and functional. Spices are stored in tightly closed jars, you can see the entire "line" in the cooking process, and it's also convenient to keep track of what is about to end. BUT! Spices are not recommended to be stored in the light - the color and aroma deteriorate from direct sunlight, the powder crumple.
Another nuisance - shiny jars quickly "overgrow" greasy coating and lose their appearance.
Therefore, so many housewives "hide" their fragrant treasures in cabinets and drawers.
The boxes are very convenient - you can immediately see everything that is there, just by glancing from above. True, even at the stage of designing the kitchen of your dreams, you must immediately plan a box for spices and make it not deep (the jars are usually small!), otherwise a lot of valuable space will disappear. Sometimes additional multi-level ladder stands are made in such boxes - the jars lie or stand at a slight angle, do not close each other and are convenient to get.
For convenience, in the box you can do separation system- install partitions or pick up a ready-made organizer with cells.

But it is inconvenient to store all these small jars in the closet - they close each other, in order to get something from the back rows, you must first pull out everything that is in front; spices line up in 2-3 floors, fall ...
For these purposes, there are several solutions:
do retractable multi-storey shelves(found in furniture accessories turnkey solutions, build something similar from plastic baskets, order from China)
place jars from the inside on the cabinet door if space permits (use special narrow shelves and holders or make them yourself)

Great place for spices roll-out shelves and baskets, furniture makers call them “bottle makers” and love to bring this narrow cabinet into the kitchen set to correct extra centimeters.
For bottles, such a basket is not very convenient, but placing spices there is ideal! You just need to ask the furniture makers in advance to install such a basket with the maximum number shelves.

By the way, when my culinary friends and I talked about options for storing spices and talked about ergonomics and convenience, one craftsman boasted of his super-invention: Sergey made a retractable narrow shelf on wheels from the remains and scraps of boards - adjusted exactly to the size of the space that disappeared between the refrigerator and the wall. This roll-out design has a bunch of shelves with limiters, and all the spices and seasonings, jars and bottles, bags and other trifles that like to hide in all the cabinets are included there.

Admired by the idea, but already upset that your hands are “sharpened” wrong?
I rent appearances / passwords - “Everything is in place” has an analogue! Pull-out shelf for the kitchen - three-story or four levels.

You can store anything there, and this shelf will fit in any free space behind a refrigerator or cabinet, because in almost any kitchen you can find such “dead zones” of 10-30 centimeters - only dust collects there, and valuable space is not used.
In addition to the kitchen, this shelf can be used in the bathroom or toilet for storage. household chemicals, stocks toilet paper, hair dryer, washing powder, household rags - a shelf can serve for things that are sometimes needed, or vice versa for those items that should always be at hand.
The online store has shelves standard sizes, but you can also order for your individual space.
Yes, a fragile girl can assemble it in half an hour, the main thing is that there is a Phillips screwdriver in the household)))

Well, we continue the conversation about the storage of spices.
In the process of interviewing my amateur culinary friends, among acquaintances who have at least some relation to public catering, and among ordinary housewives who need to cook food for the whole family every evening, one interesting thing- spices are not stored on all these beautiful shelves / drawers / cabinets. perfect order, special devices for storage and identical jars, only those housewives who cook very rarely and for the soul “sin”; where the kitchen is a work of art, every detail has its place, but the family prefers to eat in a restaurant or cafe.

Numerous articles on proper storage spices, you will read as many tips as you like about the fact that:

  • spices should be stored tightly glass jars(and ideally dark glass)
  • give preference to spices whole rather than ground (and grind them just before adding them to food)
  • do not store spices in the light and near heat sources (near the stove, hood or side of the refrigerator if it is heated)
  • in no case do not store spices in store-opened bags next to other seasonings (odors mix, powders cake, aromas disappear).

But let's look into real lockers and listen to the comments of my friends, acquaintances and colleagues!

For convenience, I divided the results into three groups:
1.Storage of spices in a drawer of a kitchen set.
There are various containers of canned food and baby puree, factory-made jars and grinders, foil bags, boxes and spices simply wrapped in film.

Igor: “I have almost all the spices stored in bags, bags in containers, containers in a drawer. When cooking, I take out the necessary bags and put them somewhere near the stove, or I make a mixture in a plate.
Olya: “I have two crates of spices. In the first one - jars (there are not only spices, but also tea), in the second - shopping bags (I don’t pour them into jars, because it’s faster and more convenient for me to get them out while cooking. I want to get perfect identical jars with inscriptions what lies where " .
Evgenia: “I store spices in a box in a container vertically - it’s convenient for me, everything is visible, I flipped through them and immediately found what I needed. But when they were lying in a bunch in the same box, I generally forgot what I had and what was over.
Natalia: “Spices, as well as cereals, pasta, cookies, breakfast cereals - everything fits in one drawer. From time to time chaos happens there, the main thing is to take action in time. Of course I would like more space in the kitchen, more boxes… But for now, I only came up with the idea of making sectors in this box so that the packages do not mix, well, I store the spices in a separate container.”
Michael: “I have a whole box of jars - I put this mosaic together for a long time and stubbornly, I try to immediately pour spices from bags of store-bought ones into jars. It seems beautiful, but inconvenient when you pull out a few cans, and then arrange the figs in their places as it was ... "
Svetlana: “I have jars, sachets, and boxes in a drawer next to the stove. The jars are all variegated, but I already know where everything is by the color of the lids.

2. Storage of spices in a locker
Those who choose this option use baskets and containers to organize spices. There are much fewer jars here (because jars are still inconvenient in a closet), but often stored in such cabinets vegetable oil, sauces, tea.

Tanya: “A bunch of sachets are crammed into the box (it's a perfect width, but a little short in length). There are also dried herbs in our garden - this is stored in jars. The cabinet itself is located to the right of the stove - it is convenient to use when cooking. Of course, I'm a little pedant, I dream of starting on my own new kitchen the same beautiful jars and boxes, but I would leave the storage system itself. ”
Olya: “To the right of the stove I have a cabinet for spices - right hand she opened the door, took it out, rummaged through the basket, poured it into a dish and put it back. I cook often, almost every day, my favorite spices run out quickly, and I don’t see the point in pouring them from bags. In the same locker I have oil and sauces, as well as spices that are bought at the market or brought from travels - I just keep them in bags. Probably, it would be better to store them in jars, some small ones, but so that a spoon can fit in, and, most importantly, that the jars look good, but I can’t find it, so for now it’s just like that.”
Alyona: “I keep spices for cooking in IKEA plastic containers in bags in which they were sold. One container is for seasonings for main dishes, the other is for spices for sweet pastries. Plastic containers are hygienic, they are easy to wash, and in order not to collect dust, I put them in wall cabinet from there, they are easy to get. Periodically, every six months, I check the expiration dates. The system is well-established, I don’t want to change anything, although I trudge from pictures with IKEA kitchens, where they lie in orderly rows in drawers glass jars with spices. But the current space does not allow such a project to be implemented.”
Konstantin: “Everything that is often required for cooking, I keep in a cabinet on the bottom shelf by the stove. I store in different ways - most often in store containers, why pour? And on the top - a strategic reserve of unopened spices, and all sorts of baking bags, foil ... "
Lucy: “Spices ... You know, I'm not a big fan of cooking, I have bags once, twice and counted. I put everything in a pile in an IKEA jar and hid it in a closet.
Natalia: “I keep it right in the shopping bags in the kitchen cabinet. Conveniently, vanillin, cinnamon and other baking stuff in one box, and spices in another. The bag is over - threw it away, bought a new one. I partially plan to put something in jars of baby purees, but so far my hands have not reached.
Anya: “Everything is in the closet next to the stove. One basket with spices for savory dishes, the other for baking and sweets. Well, next to it is “non-standard” - everything that was not included in the baskets.

3. "Islands" of spices next to the stove.
As it turns out, many people keep their main spices, sauces, and salt close to the stove so that everything is at hand during cooking.

Alyona: “Near the stove there are mills with pepper and sea salt, there is also a clay bowl with an ordinary cookware - I use them every day when I cook, so I don’t clean, I need to be always there.”
Evgeny: “Daily is always near the stove - chili in the mill, smoked paprika and homemade flavored salt, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, vegetable oil and salt. And then two boxes of dry spices in bulk))) I know that I store it incorrectly, but my hands don’t reach to remake it, especially since I cook often and use a lot of spices - they run out quickly and I constantly buy new ones.
Inna: “I have bags of spices scattered all over the kitchen, but I keep the most basic ones near the stove in ceramic jars.”
Yaroslav: “I tried to hide everything in cabinets and drawers - it’s inconvenient, after a while - the shelves are empty, and there is a blockage around the stove. So I decided to keep it on the work surface. On the open shelves are all sorts of jars with fragrant salt, vinegar, sauces. And a whole box of spices in sachets - why pour and spread the battalion cans, the spices do not have time to fizzle out - I use them a lot.
Katia: “I cook often, but I hardly use spices. Therefore, oil, salt, pepper, a couple of sauces - everything is near the stove. It’s convenient for me and I don’t need to allocate a separate locker or shelf. If I’m cooking something special, I can buy a bag with some particular spice, but usually I either use it all at once or throw it away - I don’t like to store it. ”
Nastya: “I am constantly on the road and there is no time to cook. Usually it comes only to breakfast - and what is needed there: salt, pepper in scrambled eggs, powdered sugar in oatmeal, ground cinnamon in coffee. So everything took root near the stove and kettle.

Yes, but I did not tell about myself! In general, I got a real hodgepodge:

There is a whole box to the left of the stove in different jars: at first I specially collected the same ones from under coffee, but then the “collection” of spices grew and “non-format” entered the box - factory mills, glass jars from capers, olives and mustard, small plastic containers. Everything that is not signed, I distinguish by the color of the caps. I also have a small hand-held wooden grinder (a rarity!), a porcelain mortar (bought at a pharmacy) and a spice spoon that fits into all the jars.
Nearby is a roll-out basket with a special plastic container for spices in bags. On the bottom shelf I still had a whole box with all kinds of bags, but now the picnic season has begun and these spices have “moved” to the summer kitchen.
On the railing hang "witch bouquets" - dried basil, thyme, marjoram and parsley. When cooking, it's great to pinch the leaves and throw them into the dish. Right there on the railing are special jars-mills with sea salt, a mixture of peppers and cloves - it is convenient to use and looks beautiful and bright.
And a whole corner cabinet with all sorts of oils, sauces, vinegars, supplies different salt and wood chips for smoking.
As always, I took a little bit from all storage options)))

And I want to finish the article with a few more interesting ideas how to store spices:
Use... test tubes! In stores with medical equipment you can find inexpensive plastic coasters for test tubes, real stoppers and, of course, the test tubes themselves. The costs are penny, but it looks at +100500

Spice packets can be hung from hooks, curtain clips, or regular stationery clips on railing. If the bags are transparent and the spices are bright, then it will look like an element of kitchen decor.

These are the plastic pieces sold in construction stores in the department "everything for heating and water supply". These are the holders plastic pipes. They are different diameter and colors. It remains only to find the right jars.

Infrequently used spices are conveniently stored in hanging pockets that are hung on the door or side of the cabinet.,

Any hostess in the kitchen has a whole lot of various spices. Most often it happens that we find it difficult to find them appropriate place. The dream of the hostess is to have a special house where you can store spices. I want a house that can stand in plain sight and be a decoration of the kitchen. Such container for spices very easy to make from improvised materials with your own hands.

Materials for a cardboard house:

  • cardboard (a mailbox was used in this master class);
  • PVA glue;
  • glue gun;
  • 2 napkins of different types;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • brush;
  • mesh (floristic mesh is suitable);
  • acrylic lacquer.

A small do-it-yourself house for storing bags of spices, seasonings, tea

First, let's prepare the stencils. The walls will be of two types. Wall No. 1 with dimensions of 11 cm * 12 cm, on top of a triangle 4 cm high (2 pcs.). Wall No. 2 with dimensions of 11 cm * 16.4 cm (2 pcs.). Base 14cm*17cm. Roof 19.5cm*8.5cm (2pcs).

We transfer the stencils to cardboard, cut them out. We also cut out a dividing bar measuring 11 cm * 12 cm.

Let's take two parts of the roof. We cut out “patterns” from the grid according to the size of the blanks.

Glue the mesh with a glue gun. Glue is applied to the rough side of the roof.

We glue the two blanks together, as shown in the photo.

Let's move on to the decor of the base, so that when the time comes to connect the house to the base, it is completely dry. We separate unnecessary layers from the napkin, apply PVA glue to the surface of the cardboard, and glue the napkin. When the napkin lay down on the cardboard, carefully iron it with a brush.

We glue three walls, focusing on the photo. Dot how to glue the fourth wall, glue the partition. Glue the fourth wall.

The house is assembled, we proceed to its decoration. Separate unnecessary layers from the napkin.

We also apply PVA glue to the surface of the walls of the house.

Attach the napkin. One turn of the napkin should be enough for two walls. We smooth the napkin with a brush, you can use your fingers.

Decorate the remaining two walls in the same way. We cut off the unnecessary part of the napkin with small allowances for bends. Don't make them too big. We glue the joints of napkins, make bends. Again, it should be remembered that when working with napkins, you should not apply a large number of glue. A napkin without additional layers is very thin, when glued, it is very easy to damage it.

Let the house dry completely. We connect the base with the house. We cover it with acrylic varnish.

Putting a roof on the house. Attention! We do not glue the lid!

The spice house is ready! Instead of condiments, you can use it to store tea bags.

Now spices will always be at hand, and order will reign in the kitchen! Cardboard house made by hand great idea for storing spices and seasonings. We brought this idea to life with ease.

Master class from Anna Gribanova.

It’s a completely different matter when you love to cook and there are so many spices in your arsenal that it becomes a daunting task to organize them in the kitchen. WANT.ua picked up a few for you non-standard ideas for .

WHERE TO STORE

The easiest and most inexpensive option for storing spices is store spices in their original packaging by placing them in a transparent organizer. Install the organizer in any kitchen drawer. Convenient, comfortable and visual.

Another a budget option - pour spices into empty Tic-Tac, coffee or tea jars, creams, jams, yoghurts, baby food or any other previously used.

Non-standard way of storing spices - test tubes. This option is suitable for spices in small quantities. Pouring seasonings from test tubes is also convenient (do not forget to close the container with a cork).

The best option - special jars for storing spices(sold in stores like Ikea). They are glass, tin, wood, plastic or ceramic. It is better to choose transparent ones (but store in a place where they will not fall on spices Sun rays). For convenience, stick labels with names on the jars.

It is not recommended to store spices in plastic bags, when opened, they are depressurized and seasonings lose their properties. At the same time, the bags with spices themselves can be stored in a special container.

Linen storage bags fit too. But before pouring spices into them, the bags are boiled in saline.

WHERE TO STORE

There can be many options here. One of the most popular and convenient - storage jars of spices in a drawer. Lay the jars so that the spices can be seen, if this does not work out, write the names on the lids. This option allows you to keep all the spices at hand and, when they are not needed, hide from prying eyes.

Roof rails can be used not only for hanging ladles, shovels and scoops on them, but also containers with seasonings. Special jars are sold that can be hung on rails. It looks neat, stylish and gives the kitchen a special charm.

Ideal for storage drawers. They help keep spices close at hand and at the same time hide them when not needed. Labels are placed on the lids if the containers are located in vertical position or on the sides if they are at an angle.

Some furniture manufacturers make special spice boxes in kitchen sets so that the housewives do not have a headache what to do with seasonings.
