Lilies. We grow Oriental hybrids. oriental lilies

I always wanted to see not one or two lilies of Oriental hybrids, but many, whole glades of noblely restrained in color, delicate, fragrant and stunningly beautiful. beautiful flowers. This spring, I took a chance, planted almost half a thousand lilies on the site, not only the already familiar LA hybrids, but also my favorite ones, Oriental, Tubular, and even so far novelties for us, PO and OT hybrids.

What is the difficulty?

These oriental lilies in terms of flowering, they are medium-flowering (July - Tubular) and late-flowering (August, September - Eastern).

For early-flowering Asian hybrids, all phases of development - the beginning of the growing season, budding, flowering - quickly replace each other and end in August. In autumn, the stem and suprabulbous roots die off, the bulb with basal roots remains for the winter with a fully formed replacement bud. Strong spring frosts can destroy the flowers, but since the bulb already has a renewal bud, next season the lily will certainly bloom again. Medium-flowering lilies, which include tubular hybrids, have time to form only the stem and leaves in the bud of renewal by winter. In the spring, simultaneously with the growth of the shoot, the process of flower formation takes place at its top.

The peculiarity is that this process does not take place in the bulb, but outside it, and the spring weeks for this group of lilies are the most responsible. Fluctuations in temperature, humidity lead to disturbances in the development cycle, and the flowers are partially ugly, or they do not exist at all.

When growing tubular hybrids, both the growing stem, where flowers should form, and the bulb, in which the renewal bud has not yet been laid, should be protected from frost.

Late-flowering species and varieties - from the subtropical zones of Japan, Taiwan, southern China. In the kidney of renewal, which is laid only in June, scales, a shoot and part of the leaves have time to form. Flowers in Eastern hybrids, like in Tubular ones, are formed at the top of the above-ground stem, outside the bulb, but a month later, in June. In August - September, these lilies bloom. The budding period is 50-60 days (Asian hybrids have only 15-25 days).

Oriental hybrid lilies need loose, acidic soil, wet air and an endless autumn, dry and warm, so that all stages of the development of the lily are completed.

In our country, all processes are interrupted far from being completed with the onset of frost, already in October, the renewal buds do not have time to mature, the basal roots do not complete their growth, and cold, prolonged rains begin - this is the reason for the death of these lilies. With a successful combination of circumstances (warm long autumn, suitable soil, dry place), perhaps the Oriental lily will live for 2-3 years, but gradually unfavorable factors will still destroy it.

But, in spite of any difficulties, we want to grow them, admire them and breathe in a fragrance unlike anything else.

This is interesting!

How will all these lilies bloom this year? Hard to say. I bought them in the winter, in February - March, immediately planted them in large glasses with acidified (land for rhododendrons) substrate. Sprouts appeared after 2 weeks, although the glasses were in basement at a temperature of about +10°C.

Lilies sprout quickly and amicably. Given this, they should have been planted in the ground later, and before planting, they should be stored in a cold room at + 1-2 ° С. Or if you already landed, then the landings should not be kept at + 10 ° C, but at a temperature of no more than + 3-5 ° C.

In addition, the spring was long and cold, so they had to be kept in a greenhouse for a long time, somewhere hot, then cold. All this affected the condition of the lilies. At the bottom, the stems were bare, the leaves looked oppressed, some lilies, especially LO and OT hybrids, stretched out. And the bulbs weren't the perfect size, so the shoots different thickness. In general, there are many problems. But this is interesting. Observe, compare, adjust and wait with excitement for the result - flowering. Wait and see.

This is how they are set up

All lilies are perennial. bulbous plants. Their main vegetative organs are the renewal shoot, the bulb and the root system.

The resume escape has two parts. The shortened basal part - the bottom, on which the storage bulbous scales are attached - is actually called the bulb.

The second part of the renewal shoot is an elongated aerial part with leaves and flowers - this is a flowering shoot.

Every year, at the top of the bottom of the mother bulb, a renewal bud is formed, where a new renewal shoot is formed, that is, scales and a flower-bearing shoot are formed on the bottom.

How the renewal shoot is formed, what is the mode of its growth, in what terms the renewal bud itself is laid and how long it lives, it is precisely these features of plant development that determine the success of growing Tubular and Oriental lilies. They do not bloom in our country or bloom poorly, not because they freeze out (most often they hibernate under a thick layer of snow, and frost is not terrible).

Many want to decorate their country cottage area or home flower garden unusual and beautiful plants, they include lily flowers, namely, their oriental hybrids. These crops are grown both in boxes on the balcony and in small floor baths. In a flower bed, they are planted close to the edge, thereby creating a beautiful flower arrangement. More about it beautiful flower we will tell further in the article.

Oriental hybrids were obtained by crossing several East Asian species. The brightness of the flowering of these plants can only be observed closer to autumn, when other flowers have already faded. The flowers of hybrid lilies are large and have pleasant aroma. So, the flowers of some varieties can reach a diameter of 250 mm. Color palette blossoming buds is quite diverse. They can be, for example, white, red or pink.

As for the leaves of lilies of this variety, they are broadly lanceolate. The petioles of most of them are long. Flowers on spreading racemose inflorescences can be located both below and on the side. On some petals, papillae are visible. The shape of the flowers can be star-shaped or turban-shaped (i.e. in the form of a turban or turban). The first in the outer circle have beautiful petals.

It's worth saying that various varieties lilies grow up different heights. In addition, each type of plant has its own individual rules for planting and care. It is also important to properly prepare the culture for wintering. In particular, it will be enough until autumn to simply remove the containers with seedlings in a suitable dry place. For wintering, you can put them in utility room or basement. The main thing is that they maintain a suitable temperature.

bloom different varieties also at different times. So, early views begin to bloom in early August, and late varieties at the end of the same month or at the beginning of September. Old plants should be protected from prolonged rains, because. they can do a lot of damage. To do this, seedlings can be covered with foil or, in general, grown in greenhouses. Besides, high humidity increases the chance of developing a disease such as fusarium.

General rules for planting plants

It takes a long time for hybrids to start flowering after planting. In older varieties, the growing season to flowering is about 130 days. In order for these plants to have time to bloom, the summer must be long enough. Therefore, in our regions it is necessary to protect plants from frost with the help of nonwovens. Do this in mid-spring and early autumn. But new varieties begin to bloom earlier, thanks to which even in our regions they have time to go through a full-fledged vegetation over the summer. At the same time, they can not be covered for the winter.

In general, the first oriental hybrids were simply not suitable for growing in the middle lane. But that has changed thanks to modern technologies which made these lilies more resistant to our conditions. The first flowers from some varieties can be expected already in the second half of July, even if they were planted late.

Of the new varieties, oriental terry lilies are gaining popularity. There are also varieties of this culture that must "take root" on the site for 2-3 years before showing their true beauty. The fact is that their flowers grow so heavy that the stems simply cannot withstand them for the first years. Only after a while they will be able to get stronger. As for the soil, it is important that there is enough humus in it. This must ensure good drainage. In such conditions, flowering can be expected in the second half of summer. Otherwise, the cultivation technique is the same as for ordinary lilies. Any varieties of hybrid crops can grow both in the sun and in partial shade, and for a successful wintering, the most important thing is that there is no excess moisture in the soil.

It is better to buy bulbs of Oriental hybrids in February or March. Lilies that will be purchased during this period can be stored until planting at a temperature of + 6 ... + 8 degrees in the refrigerator or in the basement covered with a layer of moist peat. If the seedlings are bought in containers, then they can be transplanted with a clod of earth in the summer, even during the period of active flowering.

When purchasing Eastern hybrids for open ground, it is important to find out how long the plant's vegetation lasts before flowering. In addition, when buying, you should focus on characteristics the region in which the dacha is located. Yes, for middle lane it will be enough to take plants with a growing season of 90-100 days. Many new varieties have this duration. They usually have an average flower diameter of about 160 mm. For successful cultivation Oriental hybrids need fertile, slightly acidic soil. It is allowed to plant in peaty soil, which is filled with sand and leafy humus. Be sure to do drainage. It is important that the bulbs are not planted in lowlands where moisture can accumulate, as this can damage the seedling.

Choosing a site for planting lilies

Since the stems grow quite tall and the flowers are large, you need to choose a planting site that is protected from the wind. It should be noted that oriental hybrids coexist well with Althea. Alternatively, you can still plant the bulbs in groups in the middle low shrubs and under fruit trees so that they are in a light shade. In any case, to protect seedlings from winter cold landing should be deep. Above an adult bulb should be a layer of soil equal to a thickness of about two bulb diameters.

Late blooming lilies are best planted in the spring to allow the plants to take root properly. Also, it's best to prepare the bulbs for their first winter. In late autumn, the culture is mulched with fallen leaves or peat. Then in the spring the lilies will begin to sprout later than usual and, thus, new sprouts will not fall under frost, which is likely in early June. In addition, low shoots are easier to cover.

The flowers of Eastern hybrids are quite large and have a pleasant aroma. The smell emanating from freshly cut flowers is better perceived on fresh air than indoors. To make the flower beds look more stylish and modern next to Oriental hybrids, it is recommended to plant creeping ornamental crops short stature. It is also convenient from a practical point of view. So, thanks to such a landing, you can prevent overheating of the earth in the heat. In addition, in winter, these shrubs will trap a layer of snow that plays the role additional insulation for nearby plants. In the spring, they will create frost protection, which is useful for young shoots.

In order for Oriental lilies to grow well, as mentioned above, they need loose and nutritious soil. It is important that moisture does not accumulate between the seedlings. This can occur in heavy and damp soils. Such areas should be loosened and made more breathable before planting. To do this, parts of sand, peat, perlite, vermiculite and other baking powder are added to their composition. It is recommended to add a little more ash. Fresh manure is best not to use at all.

Planting order

Depending on the variety, its height and power, the distance between plantings of the Eastern Line depends. In any case, they should be planted at a distance of at least 200 mm from each other. Thanks to this, the lily will eat well. In addition, this will provide good ventilation to the root system, because it is most prone to the appearance of fungal diseases. It is better not to loosen the soil around the plant during the growth period. Only mulching is allowed. The fact is that there is a chance to disturb young roots located close to the surface. Lily bulbs that were dug up on the site or bought for planting should be planted as soon as possible, they do not need to be dried, because. they do not yet have their own protective shell. Before planting the bulbs, it is best to soak them in some quality fungicide. Then they should be dried in the shade for a couple of hours. This is necessary in order to eliminate excess moisture, which could accumulate on seedlings. The roots of the plant can then be trimmed a little so that it is more convenient to place the seedling in the planting hole.

If you plan to store the sprouts before planting, then they should be carefully placed in containers, lightly sprinkled with peat, moss or sand. In some cases, sellers and suppliers use dry sawdust for this purpose, obtained from conifers wood, which is not very suitable when the bulbs need to be stored for more than 3 weeks. In general, plant bulbs are stored much worse in sawdust.

Lilies that have not been transplanted should be fed with phosphate-potassium fertilizers in early autumn. In the spring, complex fertilizing, for example, nitrogen, is applied to the site. This should be done when the sprouts have reached a height of at least 100 mm. In the spring at this time, additional roots begin to sprout on the flower stalks of plants, due to which top dressing is absorbed faster. Submit again complex fertilizers follows the beginning of the formation of buds. If the bulbs were planted in August, then autumn top dressing should be eliminated or reduced to a minimum. In this case, it will be enough to add ash to the soil.

Oriental lilies: care

Oriental lilies grow best in full sun or partial shade. It is desirable that abundant solar lighting It was in the morning or in the evening, but this is not necessary. If you need to cut seedlings, then it is best to do this early in the morning, while keeping as many leaves on the stem as possible. Removal more leaves leads to the fact that lilies bloom worse. To prevent mice from harming planted plants, Persian fritillaria, daffodils, or colchicum can be planted next to the beds. AT winter period it is important to remove the fallen snow from the site in time.

Oriental lilies usually reproduce vegetatively and by seed. Each breeding method has its own advantages and disadvantages. But if there is no time for this, then it is easier to purchase bulbs in a special store. To appearance flower beds have become more stylish and refined, it is enough to plant only 3-5 plants.

Culture varieties

Depending on the variety of the flower, four groups of varieties of Oriental lilies are distinguished.

  • The first group includes lilies with elongated flowers, for example, varieties such as Little Fairies and Viceroy.
  • The second group includes lilies with cupped varieties, for example, varieties "Africa", "Dusky", "Lavende Lady", the hybrid group Oriental, "Betty", "Crimson Beauty" and "Red Band".
  • The third group is oriental lilies with wide flowers. These include varieties such as Imperial Gold, Imperial Silver, Aurora, Gillion Wallace.
  • The fourth group includes lilies with petals bent back, for example, varieties "Allergo", "Evening", "Potomac" and "Enterprise".

Oriental Lily: photo

Oriental or oriental lilies are valued for their beautiful large flowers, the color of which can be varied. Flowers over 20 cm in diameter.

are flat, tubular, turban-shaped, cup-shaped, hybrids have different flavors. Flowering begins in the second half of summer, due to the variety of varieties, the flowering time of hybrids differs, which makes it possible to create flower beds continuous flowering. Depending on the variety, the height of the plants can be 50-100 cm. Oriental hybrids look very different, the main similarity lies in agricultural technology. Oriental lilies are obtained by crossing East Asian species.

Care and cultivation of oriental lilies

Oriental lilies are planted in sunny or slightly shaded areas, fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soils are preferred. Oriental lilies do not grow well on calcareous soils, therefore, to improve the soil, organic fertilizers are applied in the form of peat, compost.

Oriental lilies provide moderate watering, the soil should always remain slightly moist. To avoid overheating of the bulbs and to retain moisture, the soil around the plants is mulched with peat or needles. After the end of flowering, watering is gradually stopped.

Oriental lilies feed during the period active growth. The first top dressing is applied when the sprouts reach a height of about 15 cm, the next top dressing is carried out every two weeks until flowering begins. When growing on fertile soils, fertilization is not necessary. As organic fertilizers use compost, but not manure.

Plants are transplanted every 4-5 years, during which time new bulbs have time to form.

In autumn, before the rains, plantings are covered with polyethylene or other waterproof material, but so that there are slots for ventilation from below, and the polyethylene does not touch the ground. Polyethylene will keep the soil dry, which is very important for the bulbs to successfully overwinter. Overwintering in damp soil can cause the bulbs to rot. When the soil freezes and the rains stop, the film is removed, for the winter the plantings are mulched with a 20 cm layer of peat or dry fallen leaves.

Reproduction of oriental lilies

Oriental lilies are propagated by bulbs, scales, seeds. Self-reproduction lilies do not always end in success, it is easier to buy a bulb of the variety you like.

Not all hybrids can be propagated from seeds. Growing oriental hybrids from seeds requires patience and attention.

The bulbs are divided after the end of flowering. The separated bulbs are immediately planted in open ground, to a depth of about 10-15 cm and at a distance of about 20-25 cm from each other. Due to the deep planting, the bulbs will need more time to germinate, so the sprouts will be protected from spring frosts. When planting, provide good drainage.

When buying bulbs, you should pay attention to the timing of flowering, as well as winter hardiness. Early-flowering varieties of oriental hybrids overwinter better, because. have time to fade and prepare for wintering before the onset of frost.

Bulbs purchased late autumn, planted in open ground next spring (in May) or at the end of summer. The bulbs are placed in plastic bag with holes and sprinkled with peat and sawdust. The bulbs are kept in a dark place, at a temperature of about + 2-5 degrees, but not lower than 0 degrees.

Another way to store bulbs is to plant them in pots filled with loose substrate. The bulbs are planted deeper (to a depth of about 15 cm), the pot is placed in a cool place, for example, on a balcony.

Described methods winter storage also apply to bulbs grown in containers. The main rule of winter storage is dry soil.

Reproduction by scales is carried out in the spring, when the bulbs are planned to be planted. Several scales are separated from the bulb, which are planted in a substrate from a mixture of peat, sand and coniferous litter. Containers with scales are kept in partial shade. Plantings are regularly watered, but do not allow moisture to stagnate. Usually, by autumn, babies appear on the scales, which are planted in open ground or transplanted into a pot and left to winter in a cool room. When propagated by scales, flowering begins at 2-3 years.

Usage

Oriental lilies feel great among rhododendrons, look good among geleniums, perennial asters, as well as among ground cover plants that help retain moisture and hide bare soil. Oriental hybrids are often used in forcing. Plants are suitable for growing in pots. One of the features of oriental lilies is the possibility of growing them for cutting.

Diseases and pests

Oriental lilies are prone to viral infections, spots may appear on the leaves and flowers. Bulbs can rot as a result of an excess of moisture in the soil. The plant may suffer from aphids, lily beetles, mice.

Oriental lilies in photographs

If you ask your gardening friends “What are the most beautiful flowers in your garden?”, Most of them will probably answer: “Lilies!”.

Well, lilies- very beautiful majestic flowers. But, like other colors, there are favorites among them.

Authentic masterpieces are famous Oriental hybrids luxurious, fragrant and huge.

Some varieties of these lilies have flowers up to 31 centimeters in diameter (for example, the white variety ‘Nippon’ known among lily growers is white with pink edging). Others are not so huge - 23-25 centimeters, although this size is the size of a large plate!

Oriental lily hybrids are very popular as cut flowers. They are quite affordable for gardeners - you can buy their bulbs and, knowing a little trick, grow them in your garden.

Before deciding to breed these plants, it is better to master the easier-to-care varieties of Asian hybrids and LA hybrids.

What kind of soil do lilies need?

All lilies that have been used to produce oriental hybrids grow in Japan, mainly in the highlands. The soils in the mountains are gravelly and permeable, and no matter how much water is poured into them, it does not stagnate and all goes down.

To simulate natural conditions for lilies you need to prepare special earth mixture and arrange drainage. This is what lilies need.

If there are a lot of lilies, dig a trench the width of the intended planting. For 1-2 bulbs, a hole with a diameter of 30-40 cm will suffice.

Count on distances between plants of 25-35 cm. It is with this planting that these large plants will grow well. A sufficient depth of the pit is 30-40 cm. Place expanded clay on the bottom, broken bricks, crushed stone or slag with a layer of 15-20 cm.

The bulb is planted at a depth of 10-15 cm from the top. It is placed on a layer of fresh substrate, lightly sprinkled with sand around, and the pit is filled to the top with earth.

Soil freshness requirement- the main thing for all groups of lilies, and for oriental hybrids - this is perhaps the most important. The fact is that lilies do not feel very good in "tired", already used for other horticultural crops soils. Most likely, landings will be short-lived and unlikely to give good flowering.

An earthen mixture of approximately the following composition is well suited: 1 part of fresh peat, 1 part of sand, 1-2 parts of coniferous litter. It is desirable to add finely crushed slag to the soil.

You can grow oriental lily hybrids in one coniferous litter mixed with sand. The results will be amazing.

By the way, these lilies do not tolerate the presence of ash.

If frequent rains wash out the soil, the bulbs should not be exposed. In this case, coniferous litter can be added to them with a layer of 4-5 centimeters.

How often should a lily be dug up?

Subject to all the conditions important for them, lilies feel great in one place for 4-5 years. If the lily grows well and blooms, gives babies and thus multiplies, grow it further.

How to propagate your favorite variety of lily?

In the Moscow region, it is difficult to propagate oriental hybrids of lilies, they almost do not give children, either on an underground stem or on scales separated from the bulb.

If you still want to experiment, spring planting try separate a few scales. Plant them in boxes with soil. Place the boxes in partial shade in the garden and water regularly. In autumn, babies obtained on scales can be planted in the ground. In a season it will be possible to count on the first flowers.

How to fertilize oriental lily hybrids?

If the soil is fresh and prepared correctly, then the lilies may not fertilize 2-3 years.

Not good fertile soil it is desirable to enrich. High-quality soluble fertilizers, such as Kemira-Lux, are best suited.

All lilies, and especially their oriental hybrids, cannot be fed with manure, even heavily diluted, since the bulbs rot from this.

top dressing must be produced before flowering 3-4 times, and the first is best done when the stem is about 10 cm high.

Do I need to cover oriental lily hybrids for the winter and how?

Those who grow lilies in containers and take them to the basement for the winter should remember that bulbs should be in dry soil all winter. And this means that from September they stop watering.

The same is true of lilies growing in open field. Oriental hybrids should winter in dry soil - this is the main condition for them. proper cultivation in our climate. They tolerate frost well, but winter dampness is detrimental to them.

Therefore, in the middle or end of September, before the start of autumn rains, place metal arcs over the plantings. Throw polyethylene on top so that it is half a meter wider than the ridge. Fasten the edges so that the shelter is not blown away by the wind. Leave the ends open for ventilation.

Put a mouse repellent under the film.

The ground under the lilies always needs to be raised by 15-20 cm, excess water will leave, and the soil under the shelter will remain dry until frost.

In November, with the onset of frost, the film can be removed. It is useful to mulch dry plantings with coniferous litter of 5-6 cm. In the spring, do not forget to check if there are slugs under the mulch - they are happy to eat growing shoots of lilies.

If the weather is dry, watering the lilies is a must. It is better to do it in the morning.

What diseases are lilies susceptible to and what pests threaten them?

Oriental lily hybrids are susceptible to fusarium(the bulb is damaged), as well as viral infection (mosaic of leaves and flowers).

good remedy against any misfortunes - prevention. Periodic transplantation and the use of "fresh" soil can prevent plant disease.

If it was still not possible to avoid trouble, the affected specimens must be dug up and burned. Other bulbs cannot be planted in the vacated space; it is better to remove this soil from the site altogether.

It is necessary to ensure that aphids and such do not appear on the lilies. dangerous pest like a red lily beetle. If there is not much of it, it is better to collect it with your hands, otherwise spray it with insecticides - “Arrivo” or “Decis”.

When to plant lilies?

You can plant a lily in the spring when frosts are already unlikely, or in September.

If you are attracted to bulbs in beautiful packaging, keep in mind that lilies grow quickly after winter storage and sprouts should be visible in the bag. If they are not there, you need to gently touch the onion - it should be hard.

If there are no sprouts on the bulb and it is soft, refrain from buying. If you bought bulbs with sprouts, plant them as early as possible in a pot with good soil, and after the end of the frost, transplant them into the garden.

Unfortunately, what is drawn on the bag and suggested in the annotation does not always correspond to reality.

What varieties of lilies to choose?

There are many varieties of lilies on sale, it is better to buy the latest ones. This guarantees beauty and possibly less infection of the bulbs.

Imagine a combination of deep pink flowers on the bottom and white on top. Just fantastic! These combinations of colors and delicious fragrance make Oriental hybrids always welcome in our gardens.

Very beautiful and reliable varieties - white with a yellow stripe "Time Out" ("Time Out"), tricolor white with a yellow stripe, turning into a red-orange "Arena" ("Arena"), tricolor - white with a yellow stripe and pink bordered "Star Class" ("Star Class"), luxurious chameleon variety "Set Point" ("Set Point") - white with wavy pink edges and then deep pink.

Pure white with wavy edges will look luxurious "Rialto" ("Rialto") or white with soft pink wavy edges "Willeke Alberti" ("Willeke Alberti").

Gorgeous in any garden raspberry with wide wavy white edges champion variety "Barbados" ("Barbados") or a huge pure white variety of 27 cm in size "Deshima" ("Deshima").

What else is needed for Eastern hybrids, because they are already divinely beautiful?

It turns out that they can be improved by creating varieties that would grow in any garden and were less susceptible to disease. For this, lilies of oriental hybrids have long been successfully crossed with tubular hybrids, obtaining Orientpet hybrids, and with a long-flowered lily, obtaining LO hybrids. Unusually beautiful hybrids are obtained from crossing with Asian hybrids.

lily orientalis- This flowering perennial. Refers to bulbous flowers. The main vegetation of this representative of the flora are rhizome and onion. The renewal stem is divided into two parts.

Donets is considered a shortened basal. On it are spare scales, which are considered to be an onion. Further, the plant consists of a long ground stem. It has flowers and leaves. This part is called shoot-peduncle.The photo below shows Eastern Lily.

Below are photos of the Eastern lily:

Every year, at the top of the bottom of the main bulb, a spring regenerating bud is formed. A bole, a flower-bearing stem and the necessary scales grow nearby. Thanks to this formation, Oriental hybrids are among the most beautiful and magnificent-blooming lilies. The shades of flowers are very diverse: red, amber, purple, pale pink, snow-white, golden, with blue and purple streaks, with emerald spots.

The diameter of the flowers can reach 10-20 cm. The flowers are flat with wavy petals. The tips of the petals may curl or curl. Anthers brown or orange. On the peduncle there may be 1-5 flowers. Flowers directed towards different sides. The distribution area is very large.

Oriental lilies can be found in Australia, the southern states of America, New Zealand and Europe.

Care

The following describes how the planting and care of Oriental lilies takes place.

pruning

Mandatory pruning plant does not require. But after flowering recommended remove wilted flowers and peduncle sharp knife because it spoils decorative look.

Transfer

Replanting the plant is not recommended.

Oriental Lilies should be planted immediately on permanent place growth.

The plant is transplanted only with the wrong choice of place.

In this case the flower transplanted to ground cover flowers.

In this case, during hot weather the soil will not overheat, and on frosty days it will freeze strongly. Growth time in one place: 4-6 years.

Landing

A place for landing is chosen well-warmed, sunny, calm. Lilies love to grow next to overgrown grasses and undersized shrubs that protect them from the wind.

The plant prefers breathable acidic soil.

You can use purchased soil for rhododendrons.

Important so that the soil does not contain lime.

Landing is best done at the end of summer, when there is still a stable warm weather. During this period, the Oriental Lily bulbs will have time to take root and form the necessary buds. But planting material it is better to buy at the end of spring, when experienced growers professionally separate the bulbs from mother plant. Bulbs need certain storage requirements. The video below shows how to properly plant and care for Oriental Lilies.

Below is the video proper fit and caring for Oriental lilies:

reproduction

reproduction going on with the help of bulbs.

Important so that before planting they are in a cool room at a temperature not higher than 0-2 ° C.

During growth, planting material needs a temperature of 2-6°C.

For storage, it is best to use basements, closets, cold corridors or verandas.

Planting material is stored under a layer of moistened peat or sawdust. If this is not possible, then each bulb wrap paper. Otherwise, future shoots will be strongly curved. Every two weeks, the bulbs are aired and checked for mold. Later they are planted in deep containers with black soil and peat. At the end of summer they are planted in open ground.

Planting depth should not exceed 15 cm.

Mid-flowering representatives of the flora for the onset of cold weather in a regenerating bud form only leaves and stem. And only in the spring, along with the growth of the shoot, the process of flower formation occurs. The procedure takes place not in the bulb itself, but outside it.
