Make a 2-tier bed with your own hands drawings. We give children a place to play and relax by making a do-it-yourself wooden bunk bed. Variants of double beds for adults and combined models - gallery

Is there not enough room for separate cots in the children's room? Assemble a children's wooden double bunk bed with your own hands. We have prepared design options for you, accompanied them with diagrams and drawings, we will show the algorithm for making such a bed with our own hands, illustrating with photo and video materials.

A bunk bed for children or teenagers can also be made of metal, but not everyone will get a neat welded construction, yes and appearance such beds are not too childish. Therefore, we will consider the manufacture of beds from wood and lumber, as these are inexpensive and easy-to-work materials, warm, beautiful and homely.

Bed frame materials

Scroll wood materials, from which you can make a bed, is quite long. Let's highlight the most common ones.

1. Array. Expensive material and quite difficult to prepare and manufacture if you have no experience with it. Experience is important here. Although solid wood products turn out to be the most beautiful and durable, they still do not use a children's bed for a very long time - children grow up and begin to need other sleeping places.

2. Lumber - edged or planed board, timber - the most common and easy-to-work materials, provided that you are sure of proper drying, otherwise load-bearing structure can "lead".

3. MDF - fibreboard. The formaldehyde emission of the material is at the same level as that of ordinary wood. When drilling dusty, without forming chips. Laminated MDF looks very attractive. An uncoated slab requires additional finishing, such as varnishing. It is possible to order individual elements of the bed in furniture shop or a sawing workshop: everything is carefully cut out there, the edges are glued.

4. Chipboard - chipboard. Formaldehyde emission increased without sealed coating, class E1 board excluded. Easy to saw, but does not hold screws well. Suitable for unloaded parts such as drawers mounted under the bottom of the bed. Laminated board (LDSP) can be used to make backs, decorative panelsfilm coating does not allow formaldehyde to evaporate, but it is important that the ends of the plates are covered with a film.

5. furniture board- a slab glued from individual blocks of natural wood. Beautiful, durable, even allows you to carve, but requires skill in work, as it has internal stresses that need to be taken into account.

When buying accessories, preference should be given to steel hardware. Aluminum is much less durable and rigid.

Methods for connecting wooden knots

When making a bed, you may need various connections horizontally, vertically, forming corners. This can be done different ways. We present some of them for reference.

1 - half-tree connection; 2 - connection "in the paw"

1 - complete felling; 2 - cutting is not complete; 3 - steel corner

1 - connection on rectangular dowels; 2 - connection on the keys "dovetail"; 3 - connection in the root spike

Design options (drawings and decor)

Bunk beds can be of various designs and be decorated in various ways. So, the upper tier can be exactly above the lower one, be offset, leaving room for the locker, or be perpendicular to it. Stairs may consist of drawers. Another option is steps, which are hinged drawer lids. The bed frame can also be added drawers located under the bottom mattress. To do this, you will need guides - runners. Sometimes something else is added to the bed: a table, shelves, a pencil case or sports equipment.

Below are drawings of some beds with basic dimensions.

And now for some design ideas that can inspire the creation of an original bunk bed. Pay attention to how absolutely “junk” materials are used in some models - croaker, branches, trunks, snags.

How to make a bunk bed

One of the most inexpensive materials- a board and a bar from a pine. It is from them that we will make a bunk bed.

Material calculation

When making a bed, you need to keep in mind that not only a child can sit on the lower bed, so the distance to the bottom of the upper bed should not be less than 85 cm. The size of the beds in the case of purchased mattresses is determined by their width and length. If you yourself make mattresses from two layers of foam rubber in a dense fabric cover, then the dimensions are taken based on personal preferences.

The figure below shows the individual elements of the bed, and the table shows the purpose, dimensions and number of blanks.

1 — vertical racks(legs); 2 - external pads on the racks; 3 - boards of the supporting frame; 4 - upper and lower slats of the headboard; 5 - central plank of the headboard; 6 - side railings; 7 - stair railing; 8 - steps of the stairs

Qty Size, mm Name
4 38x76x1730 Vertical racks
4 38x76x1730 Blanks for external overlays on vertical racks
4 38x140x2030 Bed frame boards
4 32x44x1850 Longitudinal mattress support bars (not shown in the figure)
24 20x76x1000 Mattress support cross rails (not shown), cut in place
8 20x140x914 Top and bottom headboard/footboards
4 20x90x914 Headboard/footboard center slats
1 20x90x1510 stair railing
3 20x64x482 stairs
2 20x90x1800 Fence railing, cut to right size during installation

Assembly units

A bed is furniture that consists of several assembly units, which are then assembled into a single unit. Identical parts can be cut by fastening them with a vice or clamp, so they will turn out to be absolutely identical. Before assembly, make sure that all wooden details clean, smooth and free of burrs. It is better to work with a special grinder for wood or a grinder.

1. Headboard and footboard

These are two almost mirror-image elements. The difference lies in the embedding of the railing at the footboard, as shown in the pictures below.

Headboard and footboard

Detailed layout with headboard and footboard dimensions

Installation order: 1 - dowel 8 mm; 2 - the stand and the backrest slats are drilled at the same time; 3 - this part is attached after assembling all other parts of the headboard

2. Elements of the supporting frame

To assemble two supporting frames, four prepared boards are required - the longitudinal components of the frame. For the reliability of the structure, the longitudinal bar must be glued to the board and additionally screwed with screws to the middle of the board thickness. Between the bars glued to the longitudinal support bar of the mattress, transverse slats will be laid - the base for the mattress.

The design and dimensions of the supporting frame board

3. Details of stairs and railings

The railing of the fence is just a processed board, the railing of the stairs is a board with a sample for mounting on the frame. The places for fastening the steps must be marked in advance, and make sure that the screws for fixing them do not fall on the screws of the frame.

1 - cutouts 38 mm; 2 - places for fastening the steps; 3 - stairs, 3 pcs.; 4 - fence

4. Assembly of the frame

The footboard and headboard are connected at the bottom to the boards of the supporting frame with screws. After that, the transverse slats, mattress holders are laid, and the extreme ones are sawn in the corners for a tight installation. They do not need to be fixed. The assembly of the second tier is carried out in the same way.

5. Assembly of stairs and railings

The ladder and railing are simply fixed to the frame with screws. If desired, the fence can be made from the side of the wall - for the lower and upper beds. Then you need four more bars.

Now the wood can be painted and varnished, the mattresses can be laid - and the bed is ready!

In conclusion, we suggest watching a video on the manufacture of a bunk crib for real princesses.

- commodity prices are rising, but you want to live in comfortable living conditions. However, this is understandable, besides, many people are ready to do something on their own to bring benefits to the house. Well, in this article I will tell you how to do this and provide drawings and photographs of such furniture.

You can make such a bed for your children yourself

What is required for work

Of course, you understand that any furniture is made of something and something, and these components must be determined immediately. That is, before starting work, you need to prepare the right materials and select the required tools.

We select materials

OSB of various thicknesses

In fact, all materials must be from wood, that is, from lumber, but panel products may be different. I will just list what you can use, but you will have to choose on your own. So, we make a choice:

  • bar 50 × 50 mm;
  • board 50 × 70 mm (instead of a bar, but this is optional);
  • board 100 × 50 or 150 × 50 mm;
  • moisture resistant or laminated plywood or oriented strand board (OSB-3 or OSB-4) - you need a choice here;
  • dowels with a diameter of 8 mm;
  • self-tapping screws (it is better to take white or yellow ones, they do not rust, therefore, they will last much longer);
  • wood glue or PVA, it may come in handy, but it may not, it all depends on the assembly method;
  • varnish (see footnote!).

Attention! There are different varnishes, but do not forget that you are making a bed for a child! So, look at the sticker with the instructions, the varnish can be alcohol, alkyd, alkyd-urea, nitroglycerin, polyester, polyurethane, acrylic, oil and water. The latter is natural, therefore, it cannot harm a person when inhaled (it is safe not only for adults, but also for children).

What do you need from the tools

An electric jigsaw is more convenient than a manual jigsaw

Generally speaking, a hammer, a hacksaw and a curly screwdriver will be enough, but why complicate your life? Now there are many electric tools which will always come in handy household and this:

  • electric jigsaw and / or circular hand saw;
  • screwdriver and / or electric drill with nozzles;
  • set of drills;
  • metric tape measure, pencil.

Note. Also may be useful sandpaper or grinding disc in Bulgarian, but this is not always the case.

Step by step assembly of the crib

In fact, the manufacture of a crib consists of stages, that is, first the different components are made, and then they are assembled. However, the factory assembly takes place in the same way.

Material dimensions

Layout of parts

  1. A - 4 legs 1730x76x38;
  2. B - pads for legs 1730x76x38;
  3. C - 2030x140x38;
  4. D - 1850x44x32;
  5. E - 914x140x20;
  6. F - 914x90x20;
  7. G - 1000x76x20;
  8. H - 1510x90x20;
  9. I - 482x64x20;
  10. J - 1800x90x20.

In addition to these details, stock up on such things as:

  • grinder (belt or disc);
  • clamps for fastening parts.

backs

Here you need to make planks from the bars

The backs are hammered into the dowels

The back at the head and the back at the feet are the same, you can just diversify them for beauty, for example, at the head to make almost continuous crate and smaller at the feet. Instead of a crate, you can use LDSTP. Please note that the assembly is done with dowels and wood glue or PVA - they must fit tightly and they are hammered. There is one more nuance for the legs - if someone does not like to rest their feet on the crossbars, then the middle board should not be set, although for children this is not so important.

How to make side walls

Sidewall Image

Focus your attention on the bars that run horizontally across the stack - they are made using the block method. Such a device allows you to fix the bottom rails. Therefore, you should refer to the strength of the bars when buying them - there should not be cracks, rot and / or wane so that misfortune does not happen (the bottom does not fall out). You can even use a 50 × 70 mm board instead of a bar - it will be more reliable.

Make the wall itself from a cut sanded board 50 × 200 mm and again look at the quality so that there are no cracks, fungus and wane. You will need to paint the walls for manufacturing, but do not use nitro-varnishes - it is best to buy preparations for water based Aqua type. You can also paint the walls with oil wax, but it will be much more expensive.

frame

Crib frame

The slats on the frame rest on the bars on the sidewalls, but they should be fixed with self-tapping screws so that they do not budge. As for laying, it should not be too tight, that is, the rail must be inserted by hand, and not hammered, because otherwise the lumber will creak from friction. They should not be varnished - all the same, the bottom will be made of chipboard, MDF or OSB.

Making a ladder

Making a ladder

Let's start with what, in general separate part design, which should be easy to remove and just as easy to install in place. It is important here not to fix it permanently - the ladder can be easily detached, but at the same time hold on so that the child cannot fall off it.

Parts of the stairs

It's not difficult, just correctly calculate the slope and step of the steps. If we talk about optimum inclination, then this is 29-33⁰, although this is not a critical indicator (you can do it much cooler), and the steps for the child can be placed after 30-35 cm. Do not forget that the varnish itself is slippery, so you should not apply several layers - one will suffice. Below you can watch the video - this is one of the options for manufacturing products.

Video: Self-manufacturing baby crib

Another option

Let's look at a few more options - they are very similar, like all projects, well, well, a bed is a bed. Do not be afraid that all actions may seem identical - there is a difference and a very big one.

Selection of materials

Bunk bed option

At the moment, let's try to pick up the most common materials, although they can even be called the easiest in technical terms:

  • solid wood (log) - the most good material, but it requires at least minimal carpentry experience and machines. At home, this is not available to everyone;
  • finished lumber from a solid array - edged polished board and bars. GOST 17231-78 says that for such products, the humidity should not exceed 10-12% (no cracks, rot and wane). Otherwise, the lumber may twist with a “helicopter”;
  • MDF is a finely dispersed fraction of lumber that does not produce chips when sawing and drilling. It has average density, but it is more expedient to use it as a sheathing material. There are laminated sheets, but they are more expensive than usual - this is a matter of personal choice. Sawing can be ordered in a carpentry workshop (the edges will also be glued there), but this is easy to do on your own;
  • Chipboard - chipboard without any coating. It has poor density, so such panels are not recommended for use under heavy loads. As the bottom of the crib or backs, it is better to use LDSTP (laminated boards);
    OSB - oriented strand board. They are divided into 4 classes - OSB-1, OSB-2, OSB-3 and OSB-4. Moisture resistant only includes OSB-3 and OSB-4 - these are great material for baby cot.

How to fasten knots

1 - half-tree docking, 2 - leg docking

Here are two ways to make docking: the first option is easier, and the second is more reliable. But on the paw, the joint will have to be cut with a jigsaw or a hacksaw for metal.

1 - docking with full cutting, 2 - docking with incomplete cutting, 3 - connection to a reinforced steel angle

For the first two methods, docking is best done using fixing with wood glue or PVA. The second method is more relevant when using self-tapping screws, but this is only for solid wood.

1 - docking on rectangular keys, 2 - docking of the "dovetail" type, 3 - docking on the main tenon

In this case, all connections are good, so you can use the one that is easier for you to make or just the one that you like better.

Several options with drawings

A little decor when cutting backs and walls

This option is already for professional carpenters

Here the child will have a place not only to sleep, but also to play.

The stairs and the lower tier can be used as cabinets for bed linen or for clothes

Video: Bed in the form of a castle

In the photos and videos, you can see that there are, in fact, no restrictions for design, but a lot will depend on your skill. You understand that most things are now being done on machine tools and special carpentry tools, which are far from being in every home. But if you wish, some parts can be ordered from specialists (you can’t buy them in a store).

And one more nuance - walkthrough, as such for the manufacture of a crib does not exist in nature. You can see for yourself that there can be many options, and everything will depend on your skill and desire (on financial capabilities too). But if you do not even have experience in carpentry, then this can be learned and the first step will be a sleeping place for your child or even for two offspring.

Conclusion

I think you figured out how the nursery is made bunk bed with your own hands, and you can decide on such an experiment. The most important thing here is not to complex because of inability or fear of something new (you probably remember who burns the pots).

You can make a bunk bed with your own hands, it can emphasize the uniqueness of an apartment or house. A bunk bed is completed very quickly, but due to some features, it will take a lot of effort to make it.

There are a number of materials that can be used to make a bunk bed, but only a few of them are used in practice:

  1. Chipboard. good choice there will be inexpensive bunk beds made of chipboard. It has received wide use due to its low price and the possibility of manufacturing in a short time. If you work correctly with a jigsaw, then there will be no problems. However, the drawing will not be possible to make, because to complete it, complex equipment is needed, which can only be found in factories. Disadvantages are considered color palette and small chemical emissions.
  2. timber and edged board. Often used as load-bearing elements. It is very difficult to work with this material. But if there is lathe, then you can perform a very interesting supporting structure. Wooden furniture is safe and beautiful.
  3. Furniture shield. This is the most expensive material. You can not find it in every city. For making a bunk bed given material will be perfect. Moreover, the environmental friendliness and strength of the material are almost equivalent to the array. Easy to process, you can form patterns even without through holes.
  4. Array. It is rarely used because the prices are often very high, although it can be found everywhere.

When deciding to assemble furniture made of wood or other material, do not forget about fasteners and additional elements. Do-it-yourself fittings for a bunk bed are used as usual, but it is better to replace aluminum with galvanized steel, since this metal will be stronger. Since the bed is a bunk bed, there are higher requirements for strength indicators than for single-level ones.

For many, it is important to think about how to make a bunk bed with your own hands, since it is she who will help save space in the room. bunk bed can be double or single (in such a bed on the first tier, computer desk). Children love bunk beds with their own hands, they go to bed with great pleasure.

Determining the size of a bunk bed

To get started, drawings of a bunk bed are required. To calculate the required dimensions, you need to consider where the bed and stairs to the upper tier of the bed will be located. Since the staircase will be tilted, another 0.5 m is added to the size of the bed. Then the height of the second tier is found out. It depends on the height of the ceiling. If it is very low, then on the second tier a person will feel uncomfortable. The gap between the two tiers should also be comfortable.

The distance from the first tier to the floor should be comfortable for both the child and the adult. A competent drawing of a bunk bed is half the battle.

In this gap, you can make a box to store things or toys. Then you get a two-tier retractable design.

To make a bunk bed on your own, the length and width of the bed must be calculated in accordance with the height of the child and the size of the mattress. The latter should be 20 mm smaller on all sides. Variants of drawings of a bunk bed can help with this.

Basically, beds of this type are made of pine board. So, the dimensions of the wood should be as follows: 30 * 30, 40 * 80, 40 * 140, 18 * 140 cm. Choose the size of the bunk bed based on your own anthropometric data. That is, the bed for children will be smaller, and if this is a design for a teenager, consider the factor of his growth over time. Otherwise, after a year, the furniture will be short for a comfortable sleep.

It must be taken into account that although natural wood and more practical, but it is more difficult to make structures from it compared to laminated chipboard. Therefore, if there is no experience with natural material, it is recommended to choose laminated chipboard. So you can save yourself from difficult types of work.

You will also need a mattress base for the bed. This will be 2 sheets of plywood. Their dimensions should be 900 * 1850 * 9 mm.

To assemble the structure, you will need the following materials:

  • screws 3.5*40 mm;
  • plugs.

Of the tools you will need the following:

  • hacksaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • milling machine for leveling sharp edges;
  • level;
  • roulette.

Making a bunk bed

Before you make a bunk bed, you need to carefully consider the sequence of actions. The assembly diagram will help a lot with this.

The design of the bed for a child is shown in the diagram. You will need to make 2 identical sunbeds. The bars will need to be fastened with screws. A bunk bed will turn out as in the photo below.

When the frame is already made, you need to screw a 150 * 20 mm board on one side and end. When fastening with self-tapping screws, you need to pay attention to the fact that the self-tapping screws do not pierce the sideboard through. If it turned out that the purchased screws are short, you need to make larger holes using a drill with a depth gauge.

Then on 2 frames you need to make the installation of the side. Next, the execution of the legs of the bed begins. They must be strong in order to be able to withstand heavy loads. They are made of 2 bars, the width of which is 5-10 cm. Their length should be equal to the gap from the floor to the side of the top floor of the bed. 2 beams must be connected along the length, at the end of the part a shape will be obtained in the form of the letter L, as in the photo.

When the legs for the structure are ready, holes will need to be made in them to strengthen the second tier. It needs to be fixed with screws. The bottom floor must be fixed in the same way as the top.

Both floors are fixed on legs. Now you need to complete the railing. To do this, you can use boards 20 * 100 mm. We must not forget that the railing should have an opening opposite the stairs.

The ladder can be made strictly vertical or at an angle. It should consist of 2 powerful guide bars, between which steps are made and fixed with 6 mm bolts. To strengthen the uppermost step, you need to use the longest bolt, the ladder will be strengthened to the bed with the same bolts.

Upon completion of the work, sheets of plywood are installed, on which mattresses will then lie down. Your bunk bed is ready!

Bunk beds will always be popular with kids and their parents. Kids love bunk beds because they give more area for games, and usually become part of the gameplay. Parents love bunk beds because of their compact size. Bunk beds allow two children to live in one room or, for example, leave a friend to sleep over.

Although I personally am not a particular fan of such beds - however, I know firsthand how to make a bunk bed - I made several of them to order.

How to make a bunk bed. Blueprints for a pine lumber bunk bed

Many will notice that my drawings of a bunk bed are somewhat different from the finished sample presented in the photo at the beginning of the article. In particular, I did not begin to draw the inner railing of the fence. When the bed is constantly on this side close to the wall, they are simply not needed, and the savings in lumber are obvious. If you need these railings, then you can add them without any problems during the implementation of the project.

It is clear that this is one of the many constructive and external options bunk beds for children.
If you wish, you can watch a short video review of design and constructive solutions for children's bunk beds.
Video- at the end of the article.

It should not be reminded that when making a bunk bed for children, special attention should be paid to the choice of high-quality material - their safety ultimately depends on this.

Bunk bed. General view, detail

Lumber blanks for the manufacture of a bunk bed

N Qty Size mm Name
1 4 38 x 76 x 1730 Vertical racks
2 4 38 x 76 x 1730 Blanks for external overlays on vertical racks
3 4 38 x 140 x 2030 Bed frame boards

5 8 20 x 140 x 914 Top and bottom headboard/footboards
6 4 20 x 90 x 914 Headboard/footboard center slats
7 1 20 x 90 x 1510 stair railing
8 3 20 x 64 x 482 stairs
9 2 20 x 90 x 1800 Guardrail railing - cut to size at installation

The headboard of a bunk bed is almost identical in design and size to the footboard. The difference is in the drawing above.

Bars glued with inside the boards of the supporting frame above the longitudinal bar are designed to prevent the movement of the mattress support transverse rails.

After gluing to the carrier board, it is advisable to additionally screw the longitudinal bar to it with screws not to the full depth of the board, for greater structural reliability.

The cross rails are simply laid between the boards of the base frame without fastening, and are held in place by gravity.

The ladder is simply screwed onto the rest of the bunk bed structure and can then be easily removed.

Well, now you know how to make a bunk bed. Remained final finishing, which is milestone work, because it will protect the wood and extend the life of the product.

If was chosen quality material, and the work was carried out carefully, it will be enough to sand the bed well, and then cover it in several layers with a transparent or tinted, matte or glossy water-based varnish - the best solution, in my opinion.

I hope that the drawings of the bunk bed were useful to you. By the way, if a bunk bed is not enough for you, then you can read about how to make a simple, reliable and functional triple bed.

And here is what was promised video:

Do-it-yourself bunk can solve many problems in a cramped room. Any bed “eats up” a significant area in the bedroom, and if there are several children in the family, then a compact multi-bed bed is a must.

Of course, furniture can be purchased by choosing suitable option from a wide range, but it will be expensive. Yes and choose optimal dimensions not so easy. With a little carpentry skills, the bed can be made independently, and she right approach to work will fit perfectly into the interior of the children's room.

The tree is rightly considered ideal material for the manufacture of furniture, and even more so for children's beds. It has a natural, ecological purity and is absolutely harmless to the child's body. At the same time, wood is easily processed and has sufficient strength, providing an attractive appearance.

In principle, almost any wood can be used, but certain specific properties should still be taken into account:

The choice of wood species depends entirely on the decision home master, and is made taking into account the style of interior design.

Advice: most commonly used conifers because they attract attention affordable price, as well as the presence of antiseptic ability due to the content of natural phytoncides.

Drawing

Work on the creation of a bunk structure begins with the choice or independent development of bed drawings. There are such popular models:

The most widespread is the traditional design. simple, standard design is made up of the following elements:

  1. Bed(2 pieces) of solid wood or chipboard with a thickness of at least 18 mm.
  2. Frame for bed installation. It is made of board and timber. If necessary, cross-beams are mounted to strengthen the bed.
  3. legs(4 pieces) from a wooden bar.
  4. Borders. On the back side, they can be made in the form of backs, and on the side - in the form of decorative sidewalls.
  5. Stairs for climbing to the upper tier.

Any person can assemble a typical bed. For its manufacture and assembly, it will be necessary to develop separate drawings of all parts (detailing) and an assembly drawing. Particular attention is paid to the connection of elements.

Reference: standard sizes bed for a child - 120x60 cm.

Instruments

To make a bed with your own hands, you should take care of this in advance. instrument:

Reference: for measurements and quality control, you will need a tape measure, a metal ruler, a caliper, a square, a plumb line, a building level.

How to make a bed for children?

Manufacturing various elements and assembly is simple, traditional bed carried out in the following order:

An obligatory element of a bunk bed is a ladder.. Most often it is performed vertically with front side beds. You can also mount it on the side, and in this case, an inclined installation is possible. The design of the stairs is simple. Between two vertical bars 4-6 steps are fixed. It is recommended to attach the lower step additionally to the frame lower tier. Connection of steps with racks can be made using metal corners or by inserting into a groove. You can also use an external mount.

Important: steps must be strong and withstand (with a margin) the weight of an adult.

Finishing

The tree has an attractive appearance, but it appears only after finishing.

After completing the assembly of the bed, first of all, it is necessary to putty all the gaps, joints and cracks. For this, putty for wood is used. Next, the wooden parts are polished to form a perfectly smooth surface.

The decorativeness of wood is well emphasized by varnish. Depending on the interior design of the room, a colorless or tinted varnish can be used. If it is necessary to obtain dark tones, the wood is treated with stain or special impregnating materials before varnishing.

Lacquer can be used to achieve a matte or glossy surface. Modern varnishes are able to provide various color shades, as well as imitate the colors of valuable wood species. In the manufacture of a children's bed, it is better to use acrylic or nitrocellulose varnish.

Finishing can also be done by painting. Polyurethane enamels are popular. With their help, you can get a coating of rich blue, green, pink, white, beige colour. It should be noted that when staining, the natural wood structure is lost.
