Sooner or later, but there always comes a time when the owners of the apartment have to change plumbing that has served its time or, in their opinion, is morally and technically obsolete, does not meet the increased requirements for functionality or even external design. One of the questions that are most often asked at the same time is “which bathroom faucet with shower should I choose?”.

This question is not as simple as it might seem at first. It was not difficult with this business even 20 ÷ 25 years ago - you go to the store, and, if you are lucky, you buy what is there, and you are already satisfied with it! But the modern range of plumbing fixtures offered to the consumer can even be confusing - to make right choice is possible only if you have at least a little understanding of the device, classification, materials of manufacture and other issues.

And the appearance of the crane, which, of course, is very important, still should not become a decisive selection criterion. Practice shows that low-quality products of dubious manufacturers are most often given an appearance that attracts increased attention.

If a new mixer will be installed in place of the dismantled one, then, of course, the possibilities for choosing models at their location are not very wide. But in the case when it is planned to overhaul the interior of the bathroom with the laying of new engineering communications and the replacement of all plumbing equipment, the owners have “space” in terms of selection the most optimal sample.

1. Most common and the most commonly used option in the bathroom is a wall-mounted faucet with connection to pipes hidden by decorative trim. If the pipes are not planned to be “removed” into the wall, then the mixer can also be mounted to vertically located open risers for supplying cold and hot water.

  • The "classic", the simplest type of connection - using ¾ inch union nuts using rubber (silicone) gaskets to horizontal nozzles. For precise centering of pipe and mixer axes and for changing from ½ to ¾ ʺ, usually, eccentrics are used.

In order not to leave the installation connection points visible, decorative caps are pre-wound on the thread of the eccentrics. Further installation - accurately set the center distance (shtikhmas) and carefully, without distortion, tighten the union nuts.

1 - protruding threaded part of the eccentric 3/4 ʺ.

3 – mixer union nut.

4 - sealing gasket.

In terms of ease of installation, such mixers have no equal, therefore, probably, they are the most widespread. In addition, models with a similar connection scheme are among the most inexpensive in price.

  • If there is a desire to bring novelty to the interior of the bathroom, then you can also purchase a wall-mounted faucet, the connection points of which are completely hidden from view by the mono-case of the device itself. The principle of connection in this case does not change much, but the installation itself will require more effort, accuracy and ingenuity, the obligatory following of the instructions developed by the manufacturer. But these "troubles" are justified very original view such devices.

  • A rather expensive and difficult to install option, when only controls, a spout and a shower head with a hose are located on the wall, assembled according to the monoblock principle or spaced apart by separate elements on the surface.

Such mixers are a set of parts and assemblies designed for external installation and for installation in the thickness of a wall structure. A rigid or flexible connection is provided from the water pipes to the control unit and from it to the spout and shower. High-quality blocks of internal installation are protected by special cases that are not afraid of being embedded in mortars.

Such devices are very expensive, and in order to install them yourself, considerable experience is required in plumbing, general construction, and decorative and finishing works.

2. The next type of mixer installation is on the bath itself. Of course, we are talking about either bathrooms that have specially designed mounting platforms with holes, or acrylic or fiberglass, on which you can drill neat holes for further installation. Several options are also possible here.

  • One of the simplest options is to use one hole, and the mixer itself is very similar to its "brothers", which are installed in or on kitchen sinks.

The principle of installation and connection here also does not differ much from mixers installed on sinks.

  • Another option is a kind of "retro style". Decorative pipes are installed in the mounting holes of the bathroom, supplying hot and cold water, and the faucet itself is connected directly to them.

Of course, the stand-pipes themselves are an integral part of the mixer set, made with it in uniform style. Often they have very bizarre forms, emphasizing the unusualness of the ensemble being created. The connection to such mixers is carried out from below, under the bath, and most often flexible hoses are used for this.

  • For bathrooms made in modern style, faucet controls, spout and shower can be spaced apart on a horizontal platform on the side of the bathroom.

The installation of such devices should also not cause special difficulties for the owner, familiar with the basics of plumbing technology. Always included with the kit. detailed instructions with an assembly drawing, such as, for example, as shown in the figure:

An example of connecting a four-position mixer with installation on a bathtub:

1 – mixing unit with an adjustable single-lever cartridge type tap.

2 - tap-switch of the flow "spout - shower".

3 - cascade type spout.

4 - shower head, which is located in a special glass (pos. 5).

6 and 7 - flexible eyeliner from water supply network.

8 and 9 - flexible connections connecting the main components of the mixer.

Flexible hoses 6 to 9 are usually not included, purchased separately depending on the installation. But these are the most common water hoses with ½ inch connectors. It is always possible to arrange the elements of the mixer on the bath in convenient location at the right distance from one another.

10 - flexible piping with an adapter for connection shower hose.

11 - retractable shower hose passed through a glass (pos. 5). When not in use, it is hidden under the bathtub.

Installing such a mixer, subject to accuracy and using high-quality components, should not be difficult.

In some models, instead of a flexible connection between nodes, a rigid one is used. This will require the most accurate selection of the mixer for the existing holes in the bath, or increased accuracy when marking, if the nests for installation are drilled independently.

Another variation when installing the faucet on the bath - all controls are placed on one horizontal panel located on the side.

Due to the fact that such a design turns out to be quite massive, and the load falls on a localized area, very often such mixers have their own racks that rest against the floor. A window is cut out on the side of the bath, in which the mixer is mounted, on the acrylic or fiberglass wall itself, and at the same time it does not experience weight loads.

In addition, there is another possibility of installing the mixer - not on the bath itself, but close to it, from the end or side. At the same time, it will not be difficult to cover the structure itself with a decorative finish, for example, by mounting the box and lining it with ceramic tiles.

3. Following in line fashion trend to install a bath not in a “classic” place - near the wall, but in the center of the room (if there is enough space), the designers have developed special models of faucets that are installed on the floor.

This, of course, is a rather rare case of application in everyday practice. The cost of such models is high, they require special plumbing pipes hidden under the floor surface.

However, the demand for faucets of this layout is still stable, and the model ranges are represented by products in both retro style (for example, as shown in the picture above) and innovative, modernist execution.

The main types of mixers are considered. Now you should take a closer look at their components and accessories.

The difference between mixers by "controls"

Any bathtub/shower faucet involves mixing water from cold and hot pipes to the desired temperature, as well as the ability to switch already mixed flow onto a spout or shower head.

Adjustment of cold and hot water supply

Two valve flow mixing system

Once such a system was, in principle, the only one. And although more modern approaches to mixing streams have appeared, a similar scheme successfully competes with them. Moreover, it is she who is used in all mixers made in retro style.

"Classic of the genre" - mixer with two valves

The standard layout is two taps with handwheels located to the left and right of the spout. Each valve regulates its own flow - cold or hot water, and the mixing itself takes place already in a separate chamber of the plumbing fixture.

Such a scheme is distinguished by the simplicity of the device, it is easy to repair. Setting the water temperature is not difficult in itself, but the simultaneous regulation of both the flow rate and the degree of heating is rather difficult. However, for systems with autonomous instantaneous water heaters(for example, geysers) recommend using this scheme.

Bushing cranes are used as locking and adjusting mechanisms. With external similarity and with the same fitting thread for installation in a mixer, they can differ significantly.

Crane box with rubber gasket - stopper

Crane boxes with a rubber gasket that blocks the flow of water. The rotation of the flywheel through the worm gear is converted into the translational movement of the rod with a valve located at the end, on which there is a round rubber gasket. It may take several turns from full opening to closing.

The advantages of such a faucet are simplicity of design, the possibility of replacing the gasket, undemanding to the purity of the water. Among the shortcomings, there is a fairly rapid wear of the seal, the emerging play in mechanical transmission rotation. There is another feature that will be felt at high temperatures - the imbalance of the set heating level. The fact is that the rubber disc changes linear dimensions, thickens and increases radially, with strong heating, thereby violating the set clearance for the passage of water. It is possible that during the washing process you will have to repeatedly adjust the temperature.

A completely different device and principle of operation for a crane box with a ceramic valve. The valve itself consists of two plates tightly ground to another with "windows" cut into them. The rotation of the plates relative to each other leads to a change in the area of the lumen or to its complete closure. The operating cycle of such a crane can be limited to one revolution, half or even a quarter.

Such taps are very convenient, they allow you to accurately set the flow rate through them, which will not change with a temperature drop. The disadvantage is increased sensitivity to water pollution - solid inclusions caught between the ceramic plates can very quickly lead to their wear and failure. If you decide to install such axle boxes, you should also think about a reliable filtration system. By the way, mechanical water purification will be useful for any type of faucet.

Replacing a failed axle box is a simple task for any owner. Their cost is also low - this largely determines the wide popularity of mixers of a similar scheme.

Find out which one to choose, as well as check out the varieties and installation, from our new article.

Single lever control scheme

Mixers equipped with one lever for simultaneous regulation of both flow rate and temperature are the most popular among consumers.

"One-handed" mixers are very popular nowadays

The lever moves in two planes, and the regulation and mixing of flows is carried out in a special cartridge.

This is what a replacement faucet cartridge usually looks like...

There are also two windowed ceramic plates inside the cartridge. The principle of operation is shown in the diagram below:

... and here is how it works

The cartridge lever is shown as a dotted line.

  • On fragment “a”, the lever is lowered, and the plate associated with it completely blocks the flow of water from both hot and cold supply.
  • When the lever is raised in the central position (fragment “b”), windows open for water access to the mixing chamber from both feeds, and the passage area is equal to the left and right. The lifting height of the lever will correspond to the width of the opening of the fluid channels, that is, the flow intensity is regulated in this way
  • Moving the lever to the left or right (fragment "c") increases the free passage area for one of the feeds, respectively, reducing the opposite one, up to its complete closure. In this case, the total cross section of the water flow, in principle, does not change. This is how the outlet water temperature is controlled.

A slightly different scheme can also be used - the cartridge does not consist of ground-in plates, but is a hollow sphere with windows for water to enter it, moving relative to the supply holes.

A quality cartridge can last a long time. When choosing, you should pay attention to what the valve itself is made of. There are products not with ceramics, but with polymer plates, and, despite the assurances of manufacturers, their service life is much less. The cheapness of the product in this case does not justify the need for frequent replacement.

The control lever is not necessarily located in the center - there are many other design solutions

The layout of the mixer itself with one lever (joystick) can be very diverse. The developers offer models with both top, and front, and side levers, but the principle of operation does not change.

Mixers with built-in thermostat

If funds allow, then you can purchase a mixer, the water temperature in which is adjusted according to the thermostat scheme.

Usually on such devices there are two flywheels equipped with a locking system. On one side, the flywheel sets the exact temperature of the water at the outlet - for this, an appropriate scale is applied to it. On the other side of the mixer, a flow intensity regulator is structurally placed - it can be changed smoothly or stepwise in various models.

The advantages of this type of mixers are obvious:

  • Guaranteed complete security for the recipient water procedures. Even if in the water supply, in the boiler or at the outlet of flow heater very hot water, there is no risk of scalding - from from A shower or shower head will run water at a strictly adjusted, pre-set temperature.
  • Water consumption becomes much more economical. The control device will issue the right pressure at the outlet, regardless of the pressure level in the pipes. In addition, such a mixer will also save in terms of energy consumption for heating water - only the right amount of it will always be spent.
  • Many of the models are equipped safety devices, clearly and responsive to possible changes at the inlet - pressure drops or even interruption of the supply.

There is only one drawback of such mixers - you need to be prepared to pay a fairly “round” amount for convenience.

The most modern are mixers equipped with electronics, which are responsible for the thermostatic regulation of the outgoing water, and for the pressure, and for switching operating modes.

Such models can be equipped with touch controls, liquid crystal display panels showing the settings and current system parameters. Of course, the cost of such devices is very impressive.

Spout-shower switching mechanism

If we do not take into account the most “fancy” models, in which the electronics “manage” the switching of modes, then the mixer must have one or another external control that has the task of redirecting the mixed flow of water from from pouring into the shower and back.

The switching mechanism itself (it is often called " divoter", the name " divertor" is found) can be of several types. Some of them are shown in the figure:

Schemes of the device of switches "spout - shower"

a - spool type switch. The rotation of the lever to switch modes is transmitted to the eccentric shaft. That, in turn, moves the spool rod to the extreme positions, on both sides of which there are plugs with rubber seals. Thus tightly overlapping one from the exits faucet - either a shower or a spout.

The advantages of such a mechanism are simplicity, reliability, it is easy to sort it out on your own, replace worn parts.

Disadvantage - fairly quick wear rubber gaskets, after which unwanted bypassing of water begins. In addition, there are cases of breakdown and jamming of the eccentric mechanism.

b - diver with a spherical valve. The ball connected with the flywheel axis is surrounded by polymeric gaskets tightly adjacent to it. There is a channel in the body of the ball, which, depending on the position of the switch, connects the outlet from the mixing chamber either with a shower or with a spout.

The system is very simple and reliable. There is simply nothing to break in it, and its service life is limited only by the gradual wear of plastic gaskets. But such divers are usually integrated into the hull, and in case of failure, as a rule, entail the replacement of the entire mixer.

c - cartridge type switch. The design is somewhat similar to the cartridge of a single-lever mixer - two ground-in ceramic plates with windows, the position of which determines the direction of the water flow.

Such switches are famous for their very light, smooth operation, duration of uptime use. The cartridge is located in the mixer body, and in case of signs of wear of the plates, it is easy to replace it with a new one.

Switches are extremely popular. exhaust principle actions.

Their body uses a poppet type valve, connected by a stem to an exhaust handle (button). By default, the valve, under the influence of a spring, is held in a position that interrupts the exit to the shower, leaving a free path for water to the spout.

If you pull the button, the valve will change position, shutting off the spout and opening the shower hose into the connection. The valve is held in this position by the pressure of the water. If the pressure decreases or stops completely, then the spring will return the valve plate to its original position, tearing off the outlet to the spout. It is very convenient from the point of view that if one of those who took water procedures forgot to switch the diver, then there is no risk of getting a “water charge” by the collar from a shower head hanging on the wall.

Often there is not enough pressure in the plumbing network to keep the switch in the “shower” position. Faucet developers provide for such an opportunity - the button can be fixed in an extended position by turning around the axis to the left or right by 90 degrees.

Such switches are simple in device, inexpensive, but it is often difficult to find a replacement or repair kit for a specific mixer model if the device is integrated into its body.

Based on what was said about the flow switches above, it is worth dwelling on one more of their features. Look at the picture below. It would seem that it has three almost identical mixers. However, they differ radically in the location of the diver.

a - the switch is integrated into the body from the mixer. Such a scheme is considered the most reliable, since leakage is practically excluded. Another advantage is the compactness of the entire device. The diver can be positioned as shown in the figure, or it can be placed on a fixed spout, which, in principle, is structurally part of the body.

The disadvantage of such a scheme: if the switch fails, then the repair is very difficult (unless, of course, it's not a cartridge), and in some cases - and not possible at all. Thus, the failure of one unit can lead to the replacement of the entire mixer.

b - the switch is a separate block, which is placed between the mixer body and the movable spout. Advantages - high versatility, since the thread size usually fits most models of this type. The failure of the mechanism is just a minor nuisance, since acquiring a switch and replacing it in this arrangement is a couple of trifles.

The disadvantages are obvious. Firstly, an extra connecting node appears, that is, a vulnerable spot. Secondly, when using a shower, dynamic forces are transferred through the hose to this interface of the body, switch and spout, which leads to its loosening of the assembly and the appearance of leaks. And thirdly, the height of the entire mixer assembly is seriously increased, which can be very inconvenient. However, due to its high maintainability, the scheme has the widest popularity.

c - this option is most likely a tribute to "vintage", and not a rational approach. It will hardly be convenient to use a shower that is connected by a hose directly to a movable spout, and even so that the point of application of force forms a lever with respect to the gander's axis of rotation. And how long will the seals last in this case and threaded connections between body and spout? As is clear even from the figure, in case of any breakdown of such a switch, it will be necessary to look for a new spout. True, nothing will prevent the owner from switching to option "b".

Spout design

Long swivel spouts are still at the peak of popularity. They are convenient in that move location jet falling from it, especially in those cases when you need to draw water into a bucket, basin, or if washing and rinsing clothes is being done in the bathroom.

Once upon a time, during mass urban housing construction, the typical layout was the scheme, in which it was located at the end of the bath, somewhat rising above the edge and blocking it. This is where the design of faucets with a long curved spout came from, which could be rotated either for use in the bath or for washing.

Today, most owners prefer to put separate devices at each draw-off point, but, nevertheless, this design shows an enviable survivability.

When choosing such a mixer, it is necessary to take into account the length of the spout, the sector of its rotation. The rotating knot is always a weak point, so you should pay special attention to its quality.

Faucets with a fixed short spout, which is essentially a continuation of the body, are deprived of such shortcomings. Yes, the jet is always directed to the same point, but this is quite enough for taking a bath. But the device itself is much more compact, lighter, more reliable in operation.

Faucets with a short fixed spout are more reliable

Design execution of fixed spouts can be very different - from retro style to the most unusual modern forms.

Absolutely a separate niche spouts occupy the so-called "cascading" type. Water flows out of them like a beautiful waterfall. At the same time, its consumption is much higher than when using conventional spouts.

It certainly looks very original. And how to evaluate the practicality of such a spout in terms of everyday use- the question is, of course, controversial.

Shower head and connecting hose design

Undoubtedly essential elements The entire bathroom faucet set consists of a shower and a hose or pipe leading to it. Let's take a closer look at these accessories.

The simplest option is watering cans, which simply break the water stream into many thin jets, and do not have any other functions. It is interesting that such souls are becoming less and less common - they are gradually being replaced by more modern multifunctional models.

Nevertheless, for many such a simple design is quite enough. And the designers of manufacturing companies, for the sake of consumers, produce ordinary watering cans in a wide variety of designs.

However, a discerning buyer will often prefer to choose a shower head with switching modes. In the simplest models of this type, there are two or three modes, for example, normal, soft with flow aeration, and hard massage jets.

Models are also produced with a significantly larger number of available modes - the only question is how often they will be used in practice.

The material for the manufacture of watering cans is plastic or metal. Polymer watering cans are cheaper, but the quality is lower, they can crack if handled carelessly. On the other hand, it will not be a pity to replace them from time to time. Metal watering cans are more durable, but also heavier, and if accidentally dropped on enamelled surface baths can damage it.

The most important attribute is the hose that connects the watering can to the mixer ( divoter).

The usual inexpensive hoses in a spiral metal sheath with a rubber or plastic tube inside are extremely short-lived. From permanent use the braid begins to diverge, frays the cabin with sharp edges, and the hose can be safely thrown away. Another disadvantage of the metal braid is that it acts abrasively on the bath - acrylic models especially suffer from this.

Such hoses are gradually being replaced by silicone ones, which can have a metallized, nylon, foil inner or outer reinforcing braid. Such hoses serve a very long time, look very attractive, do not require special care- unlike metal, they do not leave traces of limescale. And if you really want to have a metallized surface, then it’s better to choose a herringbone silicone hose sheath - it looks beautiful, and it won’t be demolished.

The length of the hose is very important. The choice should be made based on the actual size of the bath, the height of the people who will take water procedures. However, too long hoses will also become an inconvenience. It is optimally considered - about 1.5 ÷ 1.6 meters.

As a rule, all hoses are fully standardized in terms of threaded connections to both the faucet and the shower head, so it will not be difficult to replace in case of wear. By the way, the connection nodes are perhaps the most vulnerable places, as they are constantly subjected to twisting stress (this is especially true for the “hose-watering can” node). To avoid a quick breakdown, it is worth looking for a modern model of a hose in which a swivel is installed - a plastic plain bearing that allows the shower head to rotate 360 ° relative to the connecting fitting without any damage.

The optimal solution is a hose with a slide bearing at the junction with the shower head

It is worth paying attention when choosing the convenience of a bracket for a shower head. On some faucet models, it is located directly on the body, on others it is included in the wall mounting kit. Often, special racks are offered that allow you to install the shower at the right height, while simultaneously adjusting its angle of inclination for comfortable taking procedures.

Such racks can to be included in the set of bath accessories, or to be purchased separately.

Read the article, as well as how not to get confused in their diversity.

Faucet models that combine both a shower on a flexible hose and a stationary sprinkler stand somewhat apart.

Very convenient - you can always arrange yourself a mode " tropical downpour". In such models, an additional switch is provided that redirects the flow either to a flexible hose or to a stationary pipe mounted on the wall.

Faucet material and outer coating

Whatever model was the mixer itself, the material of its manufacture is of paramount importance. Alas, in this matter, many are promiscuous, for which sometimes you have to pay with the purchase of a new device.

  • Silumin - an alloy of aluminum and silicon additives, has only one advantage - low cost. Although it seems to be a metal, it is extremely porous and fragile. Some details from silumin can be easily broken with the force of the fingers. In addition, silumin is not protected from oxygen corrosion, and its fragility and brittleness are constantly increasing.

At the same time, such mixers are actively and quite successfully “made up” for quality products, especially by the manufacturers of our “great eastern neighbor”. But no matter how beautiful the device may look, immediately refuse to buy a silumin mixer - it will not serve for a long time.

  • Products from of stainless steel. As a rule, all of them have a high-quality chrome plating. There is only one drawback - the excessive massiveness of the mixer.
  • The best metals for any plumbing products are copper alloys. Brass or bronze faucets are not subject to corrosion, withstand the most severe thermal and mechanical loads, and do not have any negative chemical effect on water. And by longevity they have no competitors at all. Naturally, all this will be fair if really high-quality metal is used.
  • For the manufacture of individual mixer units can be used ceramic materials. It looks very cool, especially if the bathroom is decorated in retro style. However, it should be remembered that ceramics are afraid of impacts, and they should be handled with extreme care to prevent surface chips or cracks.

  • There are mixers in which a large number of External parts of the body are made of high-strength ABS plastic. As a rule, this modern models with thermostatic regulation. In the "classic" versions of mixers, leading manufacturers do not use polymers for the manufacture of bodies.

So, it is best to purchase a mixer made of brass or bronze.

Hiding the noble color of bronze is simply unwise

  • Bronze is usually not "hidden" behind any outer coating– its noble color is in itself an adornment of the faucet. It can have a mirror finish, imitating even gold, or be matte, covered with patina.
  • Brass faucets are usually covered with a decorative coating. It can be chrome-nickel plating - from mirror-shiny to matte, pure silver or with interesting tint filling under different kinds metals.

  • For lovers non-standard approach Models with a highly resistant, durable polymer colored enamel coating are offered for bathroom interior design.

  • Bathtubs made of their composites imitating a natural stone- granite, marble, etc. To match them, you can also choose a mixer that has a similar external design.

Faucets with composite coating"under the stone"

In a word, and in terms of the external design of the mixers, the choice is quite wide. But even if some model really liked, you should not immediately purchase it recklessly - you need to take into account some more recommendations.

Useful tips for choosing a bathroom faucet

  • First of all, if such an opportunity is given, you should purchase products of well-known brands.

Mixers of the German companies Grohe usually do not cause any questions about the quality of workmanship. , Hansa, Hansgrohe, Danish Damixa, Italian Mamoli and Carlo Frattini Visentin, Russian Aquatica, French Herbeau and Jacob Delafon, Swedish Gustavsberg, Finnish Oras, Spanish "Teka", American "Ideal Standard" and "Supergrif", Swiss " Geberit»

If the name of the manufacturer does not mean anything, then it would be reasonable to give search query on the Internet, and then carefully read the company's website, and even better - read real, not far-fetched product reviews on the forums.

But if suddenly the name is clearly "disguised" as famous brand, for example, you will come across a Teko, Herbean, Mammoli or Grehe mixer - you should immediately say a decisive “no”. And do not listen to the seller's assurances that these products are produced under license - no self-respecting manufacturer will allow his name to be distorted. This is an absolute fake. no matter how shiny and beautiful she looks.

  • Never buy such plumbing from your hands, from random sellers in the market - with a very high degree of probability you will run into low-quality counterfeit goods.
  • In any normal salon, they are required to present documents confirming the authenticity of the product, put a mark on the date of sale, from which it will begin to count guarantee period. This should not be neglected - the mixer can be quite expensive, and leading manufacturers give good guarantees for several years. He always pays special attention to issues of quality and his own reputation, therefore, if the device fails, you can count on a replacement according to a complaint or compensation for losses.
  • Be sure to check the completeness of the delivery - everything must exactly match the product passport.

On the picture:

1 What should be considered when choosing a mixer? Firstly, the installation method: horizontal (on the wall) or vertical (on the sink). In the case of vertical installation, study the washbasin and bath: how many mounting holes it has - one, two, three or four. Measure their diameter, etc. "centre distance" (from the center of one hole to the center of another). Having trouble with measurements? - Purchase faucet models recommended by the manufacturer of bathtubs and sinks for this particular model: quite often such “pairs” are already compiled for your convenience.

2 What is the most common faucet installation method? The vast majority of models on the market are designed for vertical mounting under one mounting hole. The faucet is mounted directly on the sink or on the countertop next to it.

On the picture:

Most models of mixers are designed for vertical installation under one hole.

3 What you need to know about eyeliner vertical way installation? The vast majority of faucets are universal: they can be mounted with any type of piping. The eyeliner can be flexible (easier during installation) or rigid (considered more reliable). Flexible eyeliner used more often. The rigid one will have to be sawn along the length during the installation process: make sure that the chips do not get inside the tubes and then do not end up between the cartridge plates. Getting rid of it is quite simple: unscrew the aerator from the “nose”, and water will blow sawdust under high pressure.

4 What types of mixers are more popular: with a lever or a valve? It's purely a matter of your taste. A mixer with a lever is easier to control, and two-valve ones allow you to more accurately regulate the temperature of the water.

5 What mixers are the most reliable? Models with a ceramic cartridge are preferred: it (unlike a disk metal one) is able to withstand hundreds of thousands of switchings. Of course, the manufacturer of the ceramic cartridge faucet is important: famous brand- a guarantee of durability.

Examples of single lever faucets with ceramic cartridge.

6 How often should the cartridge be replaced? Typically, the manufacturer indicates a service life of at least 5 years. Keep the instructions in order to buy a cartridge of the required article in time for a replacement that you can make yourself.

Price. You can purchase a mixer with everything you need modern features for moderate money, since most manufacturers apply new technologies at once in all price segments of their products.

7 How to evaluate the convenience of the mixer? Twist and touch the lever of the selected mixer, evaluate the smoothness of its movement. Some manufacturers offer models with particularly smooth running and wide angle turning the lever and spout.

8 Which decorative coating preferred? High quality chrome plated as it stays clean longer. By the way, when installing a mixer with any coating, you should use a tool with sponges without teeth (otherwise there is a high risk of damaging the coating). Or put copper or brass or cardboard strips under the sponges.

9 What functions do best faucets?

  • Maximum and minimum temperature supplied water. This is convenient for families with children and the elderly. Maximum allowable temperature usually 38°C.
  • Water flow limiter up to 5-7 l/min.(at a typical flow rate of 14 l/min.).
  • aerator- a nozzle on the spout that mixes water with air. The flow of water becomes softer, the consumption decreases. And the jet seems to be as “full-flowing” as without an aerator.
  • bottom valve, which rises with a lever on the mixer: the drain plug does not have to be pulled out manually.
  • Water filter built into the mixer. Supplements, but does not replace the mechanical filter, which is desirable to have on the water pipes.

Sometimes it seems that only professionals can install a faucet in the bathroom. Especially if this question was brought before an inexperienced owner. Everything looks complicated, incomprehensible and from this even more frightening. But you can cope with this task on your own, only having a little understanding of the intricacies of the process.

We will tell you how not to make a mistake in choosing a mixer, what parameters to look for when buying a device, and also provide step by step instructions by installing it.

We completed all stages of assembly and installation detailed diagrams and visual photographs. For better understanding process, video clips are provided with instructions on how to install the crane.

The need to install a faucet in the bathroom can arise for various reasons - as a result of a full-scale repair, a breakdown of an old familiar unit, or you just want to change a boring model.

If this is one of the last two options, then it will be quite easy to deal with the issue. The main thing is to calmly deal with the device, installation features and the most common errors.

When installing a new faucet with a shower head on the wall, you need to focus on the convenience of the owner. The height of the attachment for the watering can depends on the individual needs of a particular person.

As for the variety of models, it is more expedient to choose not only beautiful option but also comfortable. It should be noted that in the process of washing hands and washing it is convenient to put your palms under the stream of water.

Here, the original low models with a small crane lose by an order of magnitude - after all, it is quite inconvenient to perform daily tasks with such a crane. hygiene procedures. Faucet without faucet is also not the best option for a washbasin, and for bath procedures it may be just right.

Do-it-yourself step-by-step installation of a mixer

Having decided on an independent installation of a faucet, you first have to buy it, then prepare the necessary tools and, having unpacked the box with a new mixer, you can begin the installation process.

But first, let's talk a little more about what is used for the bathroom.

A traditional faucet usually consists of two valves that control the flow of hot and cold water into the mixing chamber. To ensure their operation, parts such as a lock washer, a special sealant - an oil seal, gaskets, axle box, a coupling with guides, a saddle are used.

All this is already in assembled condition, which does not require additional attention when installing a new mixer.

Step 1. Checking the contents of the product

Having chosen the best option for your bathroom, you will have to consider the contents of the box - open all the bags and boxes that are in the package with the purchased model.

If this is a bath faucet, then in the bag you can find a shower head, a flexible hose for it and additional mount- bar-holder. It has to be mounted on the wall, the side of the bathtub or on the faucet body to hold the watering can.

Also a faucet with valves or a lever, which is to be connected to the rest of the parts according to the instructions. The kit necessarily includes a set of gaskets, nuts, decorative wall reflectors, transitional eccentric bushings and a spout for a tap.

Having considered all the components, it is not at all necessary to study what parts they are assembled from. It is enough to carefully screw everything, following the instructions supplied by the manufacturer in the kit.

Step #2. Necessary tools for installation

Before starting the installation, it is best to prepare all the tools and parts that may come in handy:

  • a box with a mixer and all its components;
  • pliers, building level, tape measure, adjustable wrench, open-end wrenches;
  • linen tow and Unipack paste / silicone or special fum sealing tape;
  • soft cloth/small towel, paper napkins/toilet paper.

All of these components will be needed during the installation process. It would be nice to use tools without teeth, but if there are none, then so as not to scratch top coat appliances and its parts, they should be covered with a cloth or towel.

This technique will help protect against external mechanical damage, which is especially important for home craftsmen who install the mixer for the first time.

It is convenient to prepare all the tools for installation in advance, than then constantly interrupt and go in search of the right part

Paper is useful in order to thoroughly wipe everything after installation and check if something is leaking. If so, then you have to disassemble everything and reassemble it, not forgetting to screw each connection tightly and put gaskets for each nut.

Step #3 Site preparation for crane installation

Before installing the mixer, do not ignore generally accepted standards. So, if the faucet will be installed to simultaneously service the bathtub and the washstand, then, according to the standards, the installation height must be at least 1 m from the floor level.

Depending on the functions performed and the location, the height will be different:

  • 80 cm from floor level- for a mixer serving a bath;
  • 20 cm from the side of the washbasin- for ;
  • not less than 120 cm from the floor- if .

Another point that requires attention is the installation site of the crane. Depending on it, the main installation process will differ. If this is just replacing an old faucet with a new one, then you first need to remove the old one.

In the case when repairs are to be made with the full replacement of old water pipes with new ones, you need to carefully consider where the plumbing will be installed in order to provide for the installation of water outlets in the appropriate places.

To output the fittings to which the mixer will be attached, it is necessary to carefully calculate the distance between the pipes of cold and hot water - exactly 15 cm. It is important that they are strictly horizontal with respect to each other.

Also, the fittings should not be too long - they should end flush with the bathroom cladding material or be a couple of mm smaller.

Having completed the work on the withdrawal of fittings, you can proceed to standard installation mixers.

Step #4 Mounting the crane on the wall

The most important thing in installing faucets yourself is not to overtighten the nuts so that nothing bursts or breaks. After all, buying new parts for a new mixer is extremely unpleasant and insulting. Therefore, there is no need to rush and tighten everything tightly - it is better to twist it a little tighter later than to run to the plumbing store.

For mixers of the vertical type, installation is typical directly on the wall, from which water pipes with cold and hot water. Ideally, the distance between water sockets should be at least 15 cm, but almost always a persistent discrepancy can be found here.

To correct this shortcoming, special bushings-adapters - eccentrics are designed. These are such slightly curved parts that are threaded on both sides. It happens that the length of the eccentrics included with the mixer is not enough. In this case, you need to buy these longer parts separately.

First of all, before starting the installation, you need to turn off the taps on the pipes with hot and cold water, using your hands or keys for this. right size- it all depends on which taps are in a particular room.

Then, after making sure that the water does not flow, you can remove old faucet. To do this, you have to use the prepared tools, unscrewing the nuts and removing all the old parts in turn.

Having reached the water pipes, some craftsmen leave the old eccentrics without changing them. But, they must check the suitability for further use.

Take off old faucet must be careful not to damage facing tiles on the wall and the enamel of the bath itself

Before screwing in the eccentric bushings, you should carefully wrap the sealant - tow on the thread. Then put on it thin layer silicone or Unipack paste.

After screwing in these parts, you need to check with a level their horizontal position relative to each other and, and with a tape measure, the distance between them. If everything is in order, then you can proceed to further assembly. Now we have to wind the decorative cups-reflectors that cover the holes in the wall.

After - it is possible to connect the inlet pipes of the mixer with eccentric bushings, using the union nuts supplied in the kit. Be sure to put a gasket under the nuts. Having carefully twisted everything, they connect a spout and a flexible shower hose, to which a watering can is screwed.

Now we have to check whether everything is qualitatively installed and whether there are any leaks. It is necessary to open the taps responsible for supplying water to the apartment and turn on the newly installed mixer.

It is better to check first with a small pressure, then increase the power of the jet to the stop. If all is well, then be sure to switch the water to the shower hose and check how this part of the system works.

The eccentrics come in different lengths. A short one can be replaced with a longer one, and a very long one can be shortened by cutting off the excess

In the absence of leaks, you can congratulate yourself on the first independent, and most importantly, correct installation. If there is a leak, then you have to carefully look at exactly where this is happening, then turn off the water again, remove everything that was installed, and carefully repeat the process again.

It is important to carefully inspect each gasket and nut - perhaps some kind of fastener was overtightened, which led to damage to one of the parts. The tow on the eccentrics will also have to be rewound.

Step #5 Installing a horizontal mixer

Having figured out how to independently install a vertical-type mixer in the bathroom, consider the option of horizontal installation. It differs from the previous one in that either bathtubs, where special holes are provided for the mixer.

Sometimes there are no such holes, but the width of the sides allows this kind of installation. Here you have to work hard - cut holes for the faucet on the bathtub shelf yourself.

Such work must be done very carefully so as not to damage the coating of the container. Home craftsmen got the hang of cutting holes not only in acrylic, but also in steel and cast iron baths no enamel damage.

The main convenience of this kind of mixers is that the location of the water pipes can be at any distance. This will not interfere with the installation of the selected model of the crane - it will have to be connected using flexible hoses or copper tubes.

Vertical type taps are most often installed separately on the sink in the bathroom - this is more convenient and aesthetically pleasing than using one faucet for the washbasin and bathtub (+)

Having screwed horizontal mixer into special holes in plumbing, it must be additionally fixed with a pressure washer with a gasket. Flexible hoses must first be threaded into the hole on which the faucet will be installed.

Now the hoses are to be connected to the water pipes with cold and hot water, using tow or a special fum tape as a sealant.

After these manipulations, it remains to check the quality of your work - open the taps that shut off the water supply to the apartment and turn on the mixer. If nothing is leaking anywhere, the faucet is installed correctly. Otherwise, you need to disassemble everything and do all the work again.

Before installation work It is necessary to block the water pipes so as not to flood the neighbors from below. Self installation It will take a little time and will save on plumbing services.
