Types of seams

A fold is called a bend sheet material for the purpose of its connection; the connection itself (lock) is a seam seam. Different types of folds and seam seams are shown in Figure 8. Seam seams come with single and double lock.

Seams with a single lock are used when there is no need for tightness and high strength.

Double lock seams provide high strength and tightness, i.e. impermeability to liquid and air.

Depending on their position, the seams are divided into longitudinal and transverse. Longitudinal seams are made with a lying fold, and transverse - to stiffen the product - with a standing fold. When connecting several parts of the product with longitudinal seams with a transverse seam, they are positioned so that the longitudinal seams are at a certain distance from each other. This ensures a tight connection in the transverse seams.

Rice. 1. Seam seams: a - with a single lock: b - with a double lock; c - bottom seams

The bottoms are attached to the bodies of the products with bottom seam seams (Fig. 8, f). The fold lock is made even along the entire length; after sealing the seam joint, the surface of the seam should be smooth, without bumps and thickenings.

Fastening seam seams with rivets is not allowed.

Making seam seams

Rice. 2. The sequence of manufacturing a single lying seam: a - g - technological operations

Seam seams are made using percussion and support tools.

The execution of a single lying seam (Fig. 2) is carried out in this order:
1. With a thickness gauge outline, a bend line is drawn at a distance equal to 10 metal thicknesses. On the reverse side lay the second bend line at a distance equal to 22 metal thicknesses (Fig. 2, a),
2. The workpiece is placed on a beam or on the edge of an iron square with which the workbench is edged so that the first marking line runs exactly along the edge of the support.
3. Supporting the workpiece with the left hand, with light blows of a wooden hammer, bend the edge first at the ends of the workpiece, and then along its entire length by 90 ° (Fig. 2, b).
4. Turn the workpiece upside down and bend it another 45-60° (Fig. 2, c).
5. The workpiece is placed on the edge of the support with the second marking line (Fig. 2, d).
6. With the blows of a wooden hammer, the workpiece material is bent by 45 ° along the entire length (Fig. 2, e), after which the edge is bent to the material so that there is a gap of 0.5-1.0 mm more than the thickness of the material.
7. In the same way, prepare the edge on the second workpiece.
8. Connect both edges into a lock and seal the seam with blows of a wooden hammer (Fig. 2, f, g). First - the beginning and end of the seam, and then - from the middle towards the edges.

When making a seam connection on cylindrical blanks, it is necessary that the first bend of the material at both ends of the sheet is carried out in different sides, otherwise the lock will not connect.

In the manufacture of a cylindrical product of small diameter, the second bend (operations 5-6) is not performed. In this case, operations 1-4 are carried out, then the straight folds are connected into a lock and the seam is sealed with a fold maker. If there is no folding maker, then crimping is carried out using a strip of the same material, folded three times. The strip is placed along the border of the seam and sharp blows of the hammer simultaneously on the seam and the strip compress the seam.

The manufacture of a single standing seam is shown quite clearly in Figure 3 and additional description does not require.

Rice. 3. The sequence of manufacturing a single standing seam seam: a - e - technological operations

The procedure for obtaining a double lying seam seam (Fig. 4) is as follows:
1. Mark the workpiece and bend the edge at 90 ° (Fig. 4, a).
2. Turn the workpiece over and bend the edge to the material so that a gap remains, the value of which is 0.5-1.0 mm larger than the thickness of the material.
3. Turning the workpiece, align the second marking line with the edge of the support tool and bend the edge again by 90 °, starting from the ends of the workpiece (Fig. 4, c, d), then turn the sheet over again and bend the edge, leaving a gap of 0 in the fold, 5-1.0 mm more than the thickness of the material (Fig. 4, e, f).
4. In the same way, a fold is obtained on the second sheet.
5. One fold is inserted into the other from the end of the sheets and they are pressed with blows of a wooden hammer on the plate (Fig. 4, g).

Rice. Fig. 4. The sequence of manufacturing a double lying seam seam: a - g - technological operations

If the fold is outside the product, and the inside of the seam should be smooth, the seam is treated with a folded mesh or a strip of material folded four times.

The manufacture of a double standing seam is shown in Figure 5.

Rice. Fig. 5. The sequence of manufacturing a double standing seam seam: a - g - technological operations

A standing seam on cylindrical products is obtained using metal bar and a hammer with a square striker, in the following sequence (Fig. 6):
1. An inflection line is drawn at a distance equal to 10 metal thicknesses from the edge of the pipe to be connected (Fig. 6, a).
2. The pipe is installed at an angle of 45° to the beam and with a pointed toe of a hammer it is beaded by 45° with gentle uniform blows (Fig. 6, b).
3. The pipe, fixed at an angle of 90 ° to the supporting surface of the timber, is flanged at 90 ° (6, c),
4. On the second pipe, a bend line is applied at a distance equal to 22 metal thicknesses from its edge and the pipe is bent at 90 ° in 3-4 steps: at 30 °, 60 °, 90 ° (6, d).
5. Reverse flanging of the second pipe is carried out at a distance equal to 10 metal thicknesses from its edge (6, e). Flanging is carried out on a semi-circular mandrel or with the help of a semi-circular support. When flanging on a mandrel, the pipe with a flanged flange rests against the end of the mandrel and bends the material with hammer blows from the side and from above. If the flanging is carried out with the help of support, then the blows are applied from below.
6. Insert the first pipe into the second and connect (close) the fold (6, e, g, h), starting with fixing the flange in four places, and then crimp the entire seam on the bar.

Rice. 6. The sequence of manufacturing a standing seam on cylindrical products: o - z - technological operations

To obtain a lying annular seam, the pipe is placed on a semicircular mandrel and the seam is filled up with blows of a mallet. If at the same time the seam begins to diverge, then it is compressed with the help of support, hitting it with the toe of a hammer.

Wire rolling

Wire rolling is necessary to increase the rigidity of the edges of the product and is performed by the same tool as folding.

The wire is rolled up manually and on a zigmachine. Depending on the shape of the product, seaming can be rectilinear and ring.

Rectilinear seaming by hand is carried out as follows:
1. Mark a rolling allowance equal to 2.5 wire diameters on the edge of the workpiece (Fig. 7, a).
2. Bend 1/3 of the allowance by 90 ° (Fig. 7, b).
3. Make a second bend according to the markup for the entire amount of the allowance (Fig. 7, c).
4. The pre-straightened wire is inserted into the bend and fixed in several places.
5. By blows of the mallet, the edge is bent to the material until it stops (Fig. 7, d, e).
6. On the bar, the edge is finally bent with a metal hammer (Fig. 7, e). After that, the wire is tapped with a wooden mallet along the entire length.

Rice. 7. Rolling wire manually: a - e - technological operations

The process of rolling wire on a sigmachine is shown in Figure 8.

Rice. 8. Rolling wire on a sigmachine

Annular wire rolling is performed manually on a metal semicircular mandrel. The edge is bent on the workpiece in the same way as with straight seaming. Then a wire ring is put on the workpiece and fixed in several places with blows. metal hammer and with a mallet they bend the entire edge to the stop. After performing this operation, the cylinder is installed vertically and the edge is finally bent with a bench hammer with a square head or a guide.

Thin metal sheets are connected in different ways. The most common connection is a seam seam, which involves bending the sheets at the edges. The sequence of the seam seam is shown in Figure 135.

Rice. 135. The sequence of the seam seam

First, the sheets are bent at the edges at an angle of 90 ° by 6-8 mm (Fig. 135, a). To do this, each sheet is placed on a special table edged with a metal corner with an overhang (protrusion) of 6-9 mm and gradually, in several passes, is bent with mallets (Fig. 136). Then the sheet is turned over and the bent edges are folded with a gap of 2-3 mm (Fig. 135, b). The sheets are brought into the lock (Fig. 135, c) and securely fastened with blows of a mallet through a stepped bar (Fig. 135, d). The protrusion of the step on the seam does not allow the sheets to separate.

Rice. 136. Folding the fold: 1 - table; 2 - emphasis; 3 - foldable sheet

In this way, sheets of roofing steel are connected on the roofs of buildings, ventilation and drainpipes, buckets, cans and many other products.

Practical work No. 40
Joining thin metal sheets with a seam seam

Work order

  1. Mark and cut with scissors blanks from tin for joining with a seam seam.
  2. Mark the fold lines for the seam seam at the edges.
  3. On a specially equipped table (workbench), following the sequence of operations, perform a seam seam.
  4. Check the strength of the connection. Put on gloves and try to move the bonded workpieces in different directions.

test questions

  1. Where are seam joints found and why, in your opinion, are they irreplaceable?
  2. Why are metal sheets bent gradually, in several passes?
  3. Due to what the seam lock firmly fastens the sheets?

The very word "fold" comes from the German falz, which means “groove” or “gutter”, hence the name for this type of connection. Folding is good because it is such a technique and method of work in which there will not be a single nail or self-tapping screw on the surface. Of course, there is nothing wrong with fastening roofing materials with self-tapping screws, if you apply modern technologies: the hole is securely closed at the top rubber gasket, clamping is provided by tightening the self-tapping screw. But still, the absence of fasteners on the surface gives a feeling of greater tightness and a guarantee against leaks, and also expresses a peculiar stylistic approach.

Fold types 1) standing single; 2) standing double;

3) recumbent single; 4) recumbent double

Distinguish seam connections recumbent and standing, single and double, as well as latched. The lateral long edges of the strips of steel, running along the slope, are connected by standing folds, and the horizontal ones are recumbent. The folds are made (rolled up) either by hand with a special tool, or modern way- special electromechanical seaming devices. Usually the height of the double standing seam is 25mm. European standard, American equipment produces a rebate with a height of 38 mm. Single fold device possible on roofs with a slope of 30 to 60% (16-30°), the double seam reliably protects even flat roof having a slope of 5% (2-3°).

Roof overhang on a wooden crate

When installing the roof in places of the greatest accumulation of water (gutters, grooves, valleys), roofing sheets are connected only double fold. Before installation of a folded roof, necessary measurements and calculations of the required number of roofing paintings and additional elements roofs (overhangs, grooves, valleys, junctions), as well as the coordination of all nodes for mounting paintings, junctions, overhangs and grooves. This is usually done at the design stage or when calculating the cost of a seam roof by the seller (manufacturer) of the roofing material. It is very important to determine the type of catchment and drainage on a given roof.

Section of the weight of the roof on a wooden crate 1) eaves board, underestimated; 2) false punk made of galvanized steel; 3) drip;

4) round end of the roof overhang with reverse edging; 5) hanging chute,

gutter fastening; 6) the clamp is attached directly above the dropper;

7) drip from the air zone

The end of the roof overhang 1) rounded; 2) oblique; 3) direct

When installing a seam roof There are two types of catchment: using a hanging or wall gutter. The advantage of a suspended gutter is the complete collection of water, including even drops from the eaves, as well as the absence of additional lying folds, which makes the cornice overhang more reliable. The disadvantage is that as a result of the impact of ice and icicles, the hanging gutter is deformed. And in the event of snow and ice coming off, the gutter can fly out of the fasteners. The disadvantage of the wall gutter is that, simultaneously with the function of collecting water, it partially performs the functions of snow retention in winter time, basically useful property, but requiring from the performers especially careful performance of work.

Wall gutter device

Wall gutters are the most common location for leaks in seam roofing. AT winter period wall gutters are a stopper for ice and snow, and when there is a temperature fluctuation near "zero", the snow is saturated with melt water. The water level rises to the level of melted snow, and as you know, water will always find a gap if it is given the opportunity. So, the dimensions have been taken, the amount of material has been calculated, it is necessary to proceed with the preparation of roofing paintings. The essence of the process is to bend the edges of the sheet on four sides for their subsequent connection on the roof with folds.

Materials required for the installation of seam roofing

1) metal sheet, galvanized or coated (polyester, pural). copper, zinc-titanium, aluminum; 2) drainage system: 3) crate; 4) counter-lattice; 5) waterproofing; 6) insulation; 7) vapor barrier; 8) double-sided tape;

9) filing the ceiling; 10) technological crate; 11) rafters;

12) plain crate; 13) cornice filing (soffit)

Harvesting can be done by hand or mechanized way on folding machines. When using a folding machine, it is possible to make a picture the length of the entire slope (the so-called roll technology). Bending folds by hand is a rather cruel method in relation to your own time and effort. It is suitable only in the case when it is necessary to cover the roof small dacha, bathhouses, outbuildings, and with thin sheet metal.

Installation of finished paintings

For cottages, where roofs of 200-300 m2 are typical, it is almost impossible to manually bend such a volume of steel, therefore, manufacturers or sellers of roofing steel sell folded paintings, already prepared for folding, of the required length, according to their own calculations. In some cases, when large volumes- cutting of pictures and raising of a fold is made directly on a construction site or directly on a roof. All elements of a metal roof - overhangs, gutters, grooves, aprons - are arranged along a wooden crate. With a distance between the rafters of up to 1.2 m, the crate is arranged from boards with a section of at least 25x100 mm. The recommended batten spacing is 300-400 mm. With this arrangement of the wooden elements of the lathing, the foot of a person walking along the slope of the roof will always rest on at least one bar, which will prevent the deflection of the roofing.

Ventilated gable roof ridge 1) ridge element; 2) false plank made of galvanized steel;

3) wooden crate; 4) a grid from flying snow; 5) laid fold;

6) execution of a fold in the form of an envelope

For rigid roofs, it is very important to maintain a normal temperature and humidity regime in the under-roof space. Violation of the required parameters leads to the formation of condensate on inside sheets, which can also cause premature corrosion. Therefore, it is recommended to lay a waterproofing layer over the rafters and fix it with bars along the entire length to ensure the necessary ventilation of the under-roof space. For the installation of a cornice overhang and wall gutters, a solid boardwalk with a width of 500-700 mm is laid.

Skate one pitched roof with a roof beam 1) ridge element; 2) a galvanized steel fly and plank;

3) wooden block> 60 mm; 4) laid fold; 5) facade overlap

depending on building height > 50 mm< 100 мм

It is also recommended to use continuous lathing with complex roof geometry and slopes from 3° to 14°. Along the ridge of the roof, two boards converging with edges are laid, which serve to maintain the ridge joint. A solid flooring of boards is also arranged under the grooves (up to a width of 500 mm in each direction). The cornice overhang begins to be arranged with the installation of pins with brackets (for a water intake funnel) and a T-shaped crutch. The cross bars of the crutches are placed at a distance of 120 mm from the overhang of the boardwalk. Pins, like crutches, are cut flush into the flooring and fastened with nails or screws. The paintings are alternately placed on crutches in such a way that their transverse strips enter the limbs of the droppers.

Comb with bar and cover profile

1) the abutment height must be > 60 mm; 2) laid fold

At the end of the coating of the cornice overhangs, wall gutters are laid. Typically, the gutters are located between the water intake funnels with a slope of 1:20 to 1:10. The connection of a wall gutter with an ordinary slope coating is made with a single or double lying seam. The installation of a seam roof to the crate is carried out using special building elements in the form of a steel strip with clamps - clamps. which at one end lead into the folds, and at the other they are attached to the crate beam. Clamps are placed at the rate of at least two on each side of the sheet (after about 400, maximum 600 mm), fasten them with galvanized nails or screws to the lathing bars and bend them to the edge of the small bend.

Comb with profile

When using sheets longer than 10 m, in order to avoid deformations during linear expansion of the metal, movable ("floating") clamps are used. Double standing seam is performed using special frames: frame No. 1 is used for the first pass when closing a double seam, frame No. 2 - for the second pass when closing a double standing seam. After laying the coating on one slope, it is cooled in the same order on the adjacent slope. After that, ridge bends are made (30 and 50 mm wide), followed by a standing fold on the ridge. Rib folds on hip roofs are also made in the same way.

Sealing the seam with a seal Pre-compressed sealing tape for seam sealing (PSU/1)

is an indispensable element for sealing joints of various thicknesses.

width: 8 mm, opening: 20 mm (compressed - 4 mm)

If ventilation elements of the under-roof space are not provided, a ventilated ridge is arranged. The gable overhang should hang from the crate by 40-50 mm.

A very important element of the roof is the collar. chimney. This is the weakest link in a roof made from steel sheets. So that when assembling the upper and lower aprons with side aprons, no gaps form at the transition points of the vertical fold to the inclined one and the collar does not leak, you need to carefully take measurements in kind and correctly follow the technological instructions.

Clamps are movable and rigid

1) movable clamps are used to compensate for changes in the length of the picture, due to

temperature expansion. They are used when covering the roof with paintings from 3 to 10 m long.

With a length of paintings over 10 to 16 m, long movable clamps are used; 2) hard clamps

are used for fixing pictures when covering the roof up to 10 m

It is recommended to use sheets of length for roofing, equal to the length slope, and in this way to avoid the installation of horizontal seam joints. The device of an ordinary covering of roof slopes, eaves overhangs, valleys and grooves should be made from pre-prepared paintings. The connection of paintings in the direction of the slope of the water should be done with recumbent folds. Seam roofing can be caused by folds placed across, which connect metal sheets. While the process of freezing and thawing occurs during the change of seasons, small particles of water fall under the lying seam, and subsequently expand and expand the joint, thereby violating the tightness. It is in such places that leakage will occur later and, possibly, corrosion will begin. In order to avoid an unpleasant situation with damage to the roof, sheets should be ordered along the entire length of the slope.

The territory of Russia is characterized by severe climatic conditions in which cold prevails and high humidity. This explains the high demand for metal roofing in the country. Exactly roofing steel can be called the ideal protection of the building from the effects of various atmospheric phenomena. Seam roofing is considered one of the current technologies, thanks to which the joints metal sheets are completely sealed.

Seam roof device

They call it a fold special kind connecting sheets of metal, which served as the basis for the name of the roof. A seam joint is a special seam created by a self-locking edge. The most popular are vertically arranged folds, but there are also horizontal connections.

Specialists in roofing work There are several types of folded roof:

  • Standing single folds. They are made in the form of a single ridge along the edge of the metal sheet. For connection, the ridges of the sheets are put on one on top of the other and fixed on the crate by means of clamps.
  • Standing double seams are obtained by a double fold protruding above the surface of the roofing sheet. The vertical double seam of the roof guarantees the tightness of the connection.
  • Lying single folds are formed by means of a single bend of the edges of the sheet.
  • Lying double folds are formed as a result of a double bend of the edges of the sheet.
  • Clickfalts are elements of a self-latching seam roof. This type assumes the presence of a decorative bend on one side and a spring-loaded click fold on the other side. Installation of roofing is easier and faster, as it is enough to snap the edge of the sheet onto the previous element.

Only an experienced roofer can deal with the construction and repair of a seam roof, as the process requires a lot of patience and effort. With the advent of self-latching rebate technology, roofing has become more affordable for connoisseurs of aesthetics and high quality.

Types of metal for the manufacture of roll seam roofing

Quality and performance characteristics seam roofing are determined by the material for the seam roofing.

Modern manufacturers offer several options:

  • steel sheets. Zinc-alloyed steel is characterized by high waterproofing and anti-corrosion properties. To enhance these qualities, the surface of the sheet is coated with a polymer that gives color and protects the galvanic layer from damage. Unprotected galvanized steel is cheaper, but often requires repair work.
  • Coil or sheet copper. This material is characterized by attractiveness and durability. There is a smooth and textured copper roof or similar to a metal tile. Copper is characterized by the absence of an oxidative reaction when combined with water, the cost of such a coating is quite high, but it pays off due to its decorative potential. When choosing copper for a seam roof, it should be borne in mind that, according to the technology, fasteners and fittings must also be copper.
  • Alloy zinc-titanium. For self-manufacturing seam roofing, this alloy is used very rarely. This is explained by the fragile structure, which is able to deform at the slightest damage. It is recommended to work with the material only if there is special tools at a temperature not lower than -5 0 C. Among the advantages, special attention is drawn to a long operating period and excellent resistance to corrosion.

Sheet metal with folded edges for a seam connection is called a picture. In addition, rolled materials are produced, they are most often ready for installation, it is enough to cut them into certain segments and fix them on the crate.

Copper and titanium-zinc coatings require careful handling to prevent damage to the valuable material. It is also not recommended to step on the coating, scratch it or throw it. Careful handling helps prolong the life of the seam roof.

Main advantages

The main advantage of the seam technology is the possibility of operation in conditions harsh winter that prevail in Russia.

In addition, a pitched seam roof has the following advantages:

  • Protection high level from moisture penetration. Through such a seam, water is not able to penetrate under roofing. Seam technology implies the absence of through holes.
  • Minor weight. The thickness of the sheets does not exceed 0.6 mm, which helps to reduce the load on truss system and foundation of the building.
  • Smooth surface. Seam type roof slopes have smooth surface, according to which rainwater and snow mass roll down without obstacles, without loading the roof and preventing its deformation.
  • A long period operation. Quality installation and correct operation, corresponding to the instructions from the manufacturer, extend the service life of the seam roof up to 50-60 years.
  • Fire resistant. Metal is incapable of burning, sustaining combustion, or melting.

Having opted for a rebate roof, you should carefully study all the characteristics of the material. Particular attention should be paid to the high thermal conductivity and resonating properties of the metal. The solution to the problem lies in the use of high-quality thermal insulation and sound insulation. The ability of metal to accumulate static electricity requires the mandatory installation of lightning rods.

Installation of a pitched roof with a double seam

Not everyone succeeds in installing or repairing a seam roof on their own, most often this work is transferred to experienced roofers.

In general, the laying of such a roof is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • On the rafter legs nail the elements of the crate, maintaining a step of 20-25 cm, for copper roof the crate must be continuous.
  • The seam roof also includes a heat-insulating and waterproofing layer. At the same stage wooden elements the frame is treated with antiseptic agents.
  • Next, they proceed to the manufacture of paintings using sheets or roll material. They cut metal with special scissors or a grinder. The edges are bent in accordance with the selected type of fold.
  • Finished paintings are lifted up and fixed on the crate using clamps. When laying material on a slope, the length of which exceeds 10 meters, use movable clamps. This compensates for the change in the dimensions of the metal under the influence of changing temperature.
  • The sheets are joined with a special tool for seam roofing - a seam-rolling machine. This semi-automatic or automatic model speeds up the paving process. You can take a manual bend and pliers for mounting the fold, but in this case the process can take a long time. Waterproofing is performed with silicone sealant.
  • In a certain place of the slope, holes are made for a chimney or ventilation, which, in without fail must be protected from moisture with galvanized steel aprons or penetrations.

Installation of a roll seam roof not only simplifies the process, but also reduces the time for its implementation. Rolls can be cut into strips corresponding to the length of the slope. This completely eliminates horizontal connections, which minimizes the risk of leakage and increases the life of the roofing material.

Seam roof - the most reliable way roof arrangement. The seam method gives the most hermetic connection of metal sheets. Besides, metal roof distinguished by beauty and durability.

A fold is a seam with which sheets of metal are connected to each other. Seam joints are completely sealed. Seam roof, thanks to this technology, is the most reliable and durable type of coating for the house. This fact is recognized by both construction specialists and ordinary consumers.

Benefits of seam roofing

  • The main advantage of a folded roof is its tightness, which is achieved by the installation of a folded seam. The peculiarity of this seam is that the seam roof installation technology does not allow the presence of holes on the sheet of the roofing material, and, accordingly, completely eliminates the ingress of moisture into the structure;
  • small mass roofing sheets 0.5-0.6 mm thick significantly reduces the load on the foundation and rafter system of the building;
  • a smooth plane contributes to the rapid descent of rain and snow, protecting the roof from damage;
  • fire safety. The seam roof is metal, so it cannot burn and melt;
  • durability. If the seam roof is installed with high quality, its service life reaches 60 years or more.

The disadvantages of seam roofing

  • Difficulty of installation. Do-it-yourself seam roofing can be equipped only if you have the skill of working with metal;
  • The need to build a lightning rod due to the ability of the roof to accumulate electrical voltage;
  • High resonant properties. The sound of raindrops is quite noticeable, and therefore measures are required to equip additional sound insulation.

The disadvantages also include the high cost of roofing with a special coating to give a more aesthetic appearance to the structure, since the most simple version(galvanized steel) does not look very presentable.

Seam roof device

For the construction of a folded roof, sheets of metal are required, prepared for installation in a special way. They are called "pictures", and are a canvas with curved edges that serve as the basis for a fold (seam). To fix the metal on the roof, a seam roof clamp is used. These seam roof elements can be purchased at the store or made by yourself with a special device.

When arranging a seam roof, installation can be carried out in different options. The folds are located not only vertically (the most common type), but also horizontally. The seams themselves also have several varieties.

Standing single fold is the simplest. The folded edge (fold) of one picture (sheet) is put on the bend of the adjacent picture and fastened to the crate with a clamp.

A standing double fold is more airtight, since in this case a double bend is made.

The recumbent single fold is an example of a horizontal arrangement and is used quite rarely due to poor reliability. In order to avoid the need to make horizontal folds, not sheet, but rolled metal is currently used.

The recumbent double fold assumes the presence of a bend of two turns. This seam roofing technology provides greater tightness than a single one.

Seam roofing is mounted manually or using an electromechanical seaming machine.

How to make a seam connection with your own hands, see the video:

Clickfalz. To speed up the installation of a seam roof, use the so-called self-latching roof - clickfalz. Self-locking seam roofing does not require the use of any special tools. It is arranged in such a way that the edges of the paintings interlock with each other into a lock with a slight pressure.

Insofar as quality installation and manual repair of a seam roof can only be carried out by a specialist roofer, then a self-latching seam roof is a real find for those who have opted for this type of roof.

Materials for metal seam roofing

One of the most popular seam roofing metals is galvanized or polymer-coated steel. durability, corrosion resistance, acceptable price- these are its characteristics.

Galvanized seam roofing becomes stained over time and therefore requires periodic tinting.

An alternative is steel with a polymer coating. It should be taken into account that different coatings perform different functions. Some prevent the negative effects of natural phenomena (for example, pural), others increase strength (plastisol). Polymer coatings have a rich color scheme which is important from an aesthetic point of view.

The seam roof made of copper looks very beautiful. Its main advantage is that no microorganisms, including moss, can live on it. Copper under the action environment covered with a patina - a layer of green oxides, which makes the roof even more beautiful. It is because of the oxide layer that it is not recommended to combine this metal with others. copper, how about soft material, requires especially careful handling, especially since its cost is quite high.

Installation of a copper seam roof is easier than any other. Plastic this material allows you to create a coating on the roof of almost any configuration.

Zinc seam roofing gradually becomes silver-gray, which gives it splendor. It is coated with zinc carbonate - a special protective layer. However, due to the short service life (50 years), zinc roofing is not currently used in Europe.

Aluminum seam roofing is corrosion resistant, durable (service life of more than 100 years), has a beautiful shine and low weight. The disadvantage of aluminum roofing is the dependence on temperature changes. A feature of the installation of such a roof is the use of floating clamps and galvanized self-tapping screws.

Zinc-titanium is a strong alloy that makes the roof durable and ductile at the same time. It is very attractive from a design point of view - the noble patina gives splendor.

Titanium-zinc-copper alloy has a high degree plasticity, which greatly facilitates the process of giving the metal a pattern (profiling).

Aluzinc is a unique alloy of aluminum and zinc, which is used to coat steel paintings in order to protect them from corrosion.

In conditions high humidity and temperature, as well as in areas with difficult ecology, it is recommended to install seam paintings with a special pural coating. Pural is a polymer that perfectly protects the roof from exposure to sea air, acid rain and hot sun.

It should be noted that such expensive materials as copper and zinc-titanium require extra care when installing seam roofing. Careful handling at the installation stage will significantly extend the life of the roof.

Types of folded roof

There are two types of seam roofing - cast and rolled.

A cast (sheet) seam roof without transverse seams can be assembled by hand without the use of special roofing tools. Solid and durable, such a seam roof has long been recognized in Russia.

The roll technology for the production of folded roofs got its name because the roofing paintings are made of metal rolled into a roll. On a seam-rolling machine, a picture of the desired length with a double seam is formed directly on the construction site.

The most popular both in Russia and abroad are the products of the Finnish company for the production of folded roofing with self-latching folds Ruukki.

Another famous brand- folded Roof Grand line. The Grand Line Company is one of the largest Russian manufacturers of materials for cottage and low-rise construction. The company's factories produce two types of seam roofing - Klickfalz and double standing. Wide range of colors and different kinds polymer coatings make it possible to create a roof-masterpiece.

Mounting technologies

Roof installation technology depends on whether it is warm or cold attic in project. We will consider the option of a mansard insulated roof with a seam roof. The most reliable is roofing cake with a spaced ventilation gap and an antioxidant film.

The truss system from a bar serves as the basis of an underroof. To support the insulation, a sparse crate is built, and above the insulation layer there should be air gap and a wind barrier (super diffuse membrane). Further - continuous crate, hydrobarrier (antioxidant film). The final stage- folded coating.

Important! Before styling insulating materials you should carefully study the instructions. Each side of these materials performs a specific function, and improper installation can lead to the opposite result.

Prior to the construction of the crate for the seam roof, the cornice floor should be mounted and sheathed gable overhangs. This design must be attached to the rafters, for which bolts and nails are used. The crate must withstand the loads created by the roofing material and be as even as possible.

Lathing for seam roofing can be made of board, wooden beam or steel profile. The step of the lathing under the folded roof is 20-25 cm. With such a lathing device, the metal is not subjected to deformation, the degree of resonance is significantly reduced. For a copper seam roof, which has the greatest weight, the crate is made continuous.

When installing a seam roof, the angle of the roof slope should be taken into account. The type of fold that will provide highest quality coatings. The minimum slope for a seam roof is 3 degrees. This angle of inclination requires the installation of a double vertical seam and an additional dewatering layer. The greater the slope of the slope, the less likely the stagnation of water on the roof.

To minimize snow avalanches, roof railings. In addition, the installation of fences for seam roofing is necessary for safe work builders who install or repair the roof. Exist special instructions, the execution of which will help to avoid trouble during the construction and operation of the roof.

Roofing tool

For the manufacture and installation of seam roofing, there is special equipment.

Previously, you can make paintings using a folding machine.

To obtain a seam connection directly on the roof, a tool for seam roofing of two types is used.

For manual (mechanical) seaming of the fold, equipment is used in the form of a set consisting of pliers with two frames closing the folds.

Seamer - type electrical equipment. The use of such a machine significantly increases the speed of roof installation and eliminates physical activity roofer.

The appearance of the seam roof is very aesthetic and beautiful. Subject to taking into account all the recommendations, it is possible to build a structure that will please the eye for many years and create the most comfortable conditions for living.
