Drywall false fireplace: step-by-step assembly instructions

The first stage is the preparation of tools and materials

Tools and materials for work

Start by preparing a set for work. First of all, you will need the drywall itself. When choosing a material, be guided by the features of the selected finishing cladding. If tiling is planned, it is better to buy a moisture-resistant modification of drywall.

Types of drywall guides

Profiles

To fasten the frame elements, buy self-tapping screws. The recommended length of fasteners is 1.4-1.6 cm. You also need to buy self-tapping screws with countersunk head for fixing sheets. In addition, you need to purchase dowel-nails for attaching the profiles to the floor and walls.

Types of self-tapping screws for profiles

Next, focus on the features of the selected finish. If you are going to wallpaper the portal or paint it, get a primer and putty. If the false fireplace will be tiled, buy tile adhesive and grout.

Choose the required amount of materials individually, taking into account the dimensions of the future decorative fireplace. Drywall construction can have a wide variety of sizes. When choosing a particular option, be guided by the available space and personal preferences.

Drywall sheets

Kit necessary tools includes:

  • screwdriver;
  • electric drill;
  • scissors for cutting metal;
  • level;
  • roulette.

The second stage is the installation of the frame

First step. Apply markings on the walls and floor for the installation of profiles. Work according to the drawing. Place labels taking into account the selected dimensions of the fireplace.

Second step. Fasten the guides along the drawn lines. If a fix is made to concrete surface, first attach the profile to the base, drill holes according to the marking, insert dowels into them and then attach the guides.

Third step. Install the racks into the rails. Fasten the products with self-tapping screws.

Before fastening the profiles, it is recommended to check the evenness of the wall with a plumb line. If deviations are found, fix the guides using straight hangers. These products will allow the installation of products strictly vertically.

First, assemble the frame for the entire structure, then for the portal with a recess under the "firebox". To make the base more rigid, connect long horizontal profiles and vertical posts with additional jumpers.

frame

If desired, you can give the furnace opening a curly shape. To do this, it is enough to carefully cut through the stiffeners mounting profile and bend the product in accordance with your idea.

The third stage - facing the frame with drywall

How to fix drywall to the profile

Mark the sheet according to the size of the fireplace and cut out necessary details. For cutting material, it is most convenient to use an electric jigsaw. If this is not available, cut with a simple wallpaper knife. In this case, you will first need to cut the cardboard layer on one side of the sheet, carefully break the plate, and then cut the second layer of cardboard.

Fix the trim elements to the frame. Screw the screws into the material so that their hats are slightly recessed. The recommended fastener spacing is 100-150 mm.

Drywall sheets are fixed with self-tapping screws to the frame

There should be no problems with fastening the sheets. Even without such experience, you will be able to cope with the skin. Just remember that drywall is a relatively fragile material, so try not to drop it and do not press too hard on the screwdriver when screwing in the fasteners.

Stage four - finishing

Having sheathed the frame with drywall sheets, you just have to complete the finishing decoration of the structure. When choosing a finish option, be guided, first of all, by the design features of the room as a whole.

Plasterboard fireplace

Most often, artificial stone, decorative brick and ceramic tiles are used for facing false plasterboard fireplaces. To fix the finishing elements, tile glue or liquid nails are used. When cladding with tiles of the correct form, lay them with the same gaps. For their design, use special plastic crosses.

Finishing option for a decorative fireplace

Brick or stone trim is unlikely to fit into a modern interior. In such a situation for final design fireplace is best to use paint or decorative plaster. Previously, the surface must be carefully treated with putty, sealing the joints between the skin elements and eliminating any kind of irregularities. After puttying, the surfaces are additionally cleaned with sandpaper.

Otherwise, when choosing a finish option, be guided by your taste preferences.

In conclusion, you will have to install an electric fireplace in the opening of the "firebox" or finish the free space at your discretion. For example, instead of installing an electric fireplace, you can equip the firebox with warm and soft lighting - a great option for a classic interior. A more modern and bold solution is the design of the “firebox” with the help of a multi-colored LED strip.

You can use a mirror to decorate the back wall of the firebox. Attach it to the surface, and lay out the bottom of the firebox with decorative logs or other material, such as shells and pebbles.

Preparatory work

It is worth noting that the false fireplace is a portal of impressive size, which is properly decorated inside and out. This portal can become a separate decorative element or a frame for an electric fireplace that gives warmth, a biofireplace that allows you to create a real fire in the furnace. If a portal is created for a bio-fireplace in which a real fire will burn, then you should carefully consider the choice of materials for the firebox, since they must be fireproof. If a false fireplace is designed to decorate an electric fireplace, then the size of its firebox must correspond to the dimensions of the device. Additionally, electrical wiring should be carried out and sockets should be placed in the area of \u200b\u200bthe proposed structure.

A well-drawn sketch and detailed dimensions of the future product will help you correctly navigate the amount of building material. Everything you need should be purchased at construction stores, while some fireplace parts, such as fasteners or hardware, can be searched at home.

Application of chipboard

Chipboard will become a strong and easy-to-use material for creating a structure. In our case, the laminated version is perfect - chipboard, which will minimize the finishing of the future false fireplace.

The only drawback that immediately comes to mind when chipboard is used is its vulnerable appearance. Care should be taken when storing the elements of the plate and building a structure from it, so as not to damage the laminated surface, since it will no longer be possible to repair it.

Cutting material into pieces required size you can do it yourself, or order it in a suitable furniture workshop. If we are talking about chipboard or plywood, then doing the work yourself is not difficult, the main thing is to use a good electric jigsaw. With laminated material it is a little more difficult, here it is important not only to cut, but also to take into account the pattern of the fibers, so it is more convenient and easier to order the cutting of the sheet into the desired pieces in the workshop. Moreover, you will not need to take away a huge sheet of laminated chipboard, you will immediately pick up the finished elements.

Portal for a fireplace made of laminated chipboard

In addition, you should ask to process the edges of the slab so that the elements look monolithic. At home, edge processing can also be carried out; for this, an iron and special tape. However, the accuracy of this method is entirely up to you. When you have all the structural elements, fasteners and hardware on hand, you should proceed with the assembly:

  • Focusing on the sketch, it is necessary to prepare the frame of the false fireplace. It is most convenient to put it together from a bar or fasten it from metal profile. When assembling a fireplace with your own hands from improvised materials, you should pay attention to the rigidity of the structure and its solidity, therefore we securely fasten the frame to the wall and floor.
  • Then the resulting structure should be sheathed with chopped chipboard parts. When performing work, you must be extremely careful not to damage decorative coating.
  • If the cabinet for the fireplace is made of laminated chipboard, then further decoration will affect only its inner part, while creating a false portal for the fireplace from ordinary chipboard or plywood with your own hands, you should be puzzled by finishing the structure. Finishing a raised fireplace can be done different materials, for example, you can paste over the structure with plastic brick panels or wallpaper with a similar pattern, or use decorative rock, which is glued to the portal on the solution. It is acceptable to use ceramic tiles, mosaics and other tiles, especially if you plan to install a bio-burner inside the portal. If you stick to the wooden style, then in specialized stores you can smoke the corresponding wooden elements with carved patterns and decorate your decorative fireplace with them. Subsequently, wooden elements can be coated with stain, varnish.
  • At the final stage, you should decorate the false fireplace insert. There are many ways to make an artificial fire, but you can also do without it, for example, by placing decorative firewood in niches or by placing candles. Everything here will depend on your imagination and the thoroughness of the approach.

wooden version

If you want to build a more solid structure, you can build a decorative fireplace made of wood. A tree is understood as a bar and a board. It is perfectly acceptable to build a fireplace out of wood with your own hands, because, as in the case of chipboard and plywood, there are no particular difficulties in this.

Tools and hardware

The method of assembling a wooden structure is as follows:

  • A correct and well-formed drawing will allow you to purchase the necessary material and saw it into parts. If you make a short description and indicate the dimensions of each element, it will be even easier to assemble a false fireplace.
  • Next, the main frame is assembled from a bar, to which the remaining elements are attached. When assembling a fireplace from boards with your own hands, you should use several methods of fastening materials: somewhere tongues, somewhere gluing, and somewhere connecting with hardware. The connection is selected based on the required strength and influence on the entire structure.
  • If you put together the entire portal from the boards, then it will turn out to be too massive, so in some places we use plywood. To make the wooden false fireplace look decent, we create decorative elements, moldings from the bars and nail them to the frame.
  • When the body is assembled, you can begin to finish it. How to finish a false fireplace, the easiest option is to paint it with white paint in several layers. It will turn out a stately building of a classic look. You can use the methods described earlier, they will also be relevant.

To make your fake wood fireplace look complete, you should start decorating its firebox. The best option in this case is the use of natural and decorative accessories, for example, you can fill a niche with fir branches, cones and candles, or put real dry firewood.

Styrofoam fake fireplace

  • Building a fireplace from sheets and pieces of foam is perhaps the easiest. This is a malleable material with which it is very easy to work, create various volumetric images, interesting contours. In addition, the cost of foam sheets is low, so we do not need a large budget for the construction of such a structure. In order to build a foam fireplace with our own hands, we need:
  • Large cardboard box, or large sheets of cardboard. This material can be made strong frame. If you take a box from a refrigerator or other massive household appliances, you can build a large structure that will be very similar to the original.
  • Foam sheets, usually they have a thickness in the region of 1-1.5 centimeters.
  • Adhesive tape or crepe (painting tape), glue, construction knife, tape measure, marker, to create a strong structure of the correct shape, measuring tools are required.
  • Putty and paint for the final processing of the finished fireplace layout.
  • Decorative elements made of foam or polyurethane, in order to make a frame and a decent appearance.

In order for the product to turn out to be the right size and shape, before starting work, you should measure the place allocated for the foam plastic fireplace, make a drawing or a general sketch. The shape and appearance of a false fireplace can be peeped on the Internet.

  • Easy to build artificial fireplace finished drawing, you can easily transfer it to the prepared cardboard. A common frame is created from cardboard. The inside of the cardboard box is cut and folded inward, thus achieving the desired volume. If you need to do corner option, then the cardboard will have to be carefully marked and cut according to a more complex pattern. Using adhesive tape and glue, the design is fixed. Pay attention that it stands exactly on the floor, and does not fall to the side. Make a strong base.

When the frame is ready, it is pasted over with foam, which is cut into pieces from sheets. Thus, the desired volume and shape of the future fireplace is obtained. As a countertop, which is placed on top of the structure, you can also use foam, or saw off a piece of plywood.

To consolidate the result, the foam fireplace is puttied. You can do this with a universal putty, which is sold in any hardware store. Now, to complete the image, it remains only to paint the resulting foam portal. Acrylics are great for painting. water-based paints odorless. You can make any color, or you can leave the standard white.

Finishing work on a false fireplace, you should decorate it. This can be done using plastic and polyurethane elements. For example, glue a beautiful molding around the perimeter, and decorative elements in the form of columns or other types of stucco from the edges. Fireplace moldings, moldings, corners and other decorative elements are bought at any hardware store.

Ready-to-use fake fireplace

If you want to finish a false fireplace made of cardboard and polystyrene so that it looks like a real brick one, then you can use three options:

  • Paste it with plastic panels imitating brick or stonework.
  • Paste the frame with vinyl wallpaper with a similar pattern. In extreme cases, paper counterparts.
  • Apply drawing brickwork improvised means. At the final stage of work, we decorate the area inside the portal, as well as the area around it.

  • The easiest option is to draw a fire on the canvas and pin it inside.
  • It is easy to make artificial fire with a fan and a cloth.
  • If you want the firebox to glow, just place an LED garlan or electric candles in it. To enhance the glow effect, you can place mirrors in the firebox by gluing them to the walls.
  • Filling the cavity with decorative firewood and spruce branches, we get a pleasant appearance and a light coniferous aroma.
  • Beautiful stones, fir cones, real firewood are often used.
  • Ultimately, you can always put inside beautiful candles, and next to the artificial fireplace candelabra.

Corner raised fireplace

Preparatory measures The design of a false fireplace, whether it is angular or rectangular, usually involves the presence of two basic elements: a portal and an apparatus inside. A massive structure is called a portal, designed to imitate a stove, and a biofireplace burner or an electric fireplace can act as an apparatus. In principle, you can not install the device inside, then it is easy to decorate the firebox with firewood, candles, spruce branches or other decorative elements.

The most reliable, strong, but at the same time easy-to-handle material from which you can build your portal, fireplace frame, is drywall. This material is easy to use, light in weight and versatile.

In the future, any decorative coating can be easily fixed to the drywall base: tile, mosaic, plaster molding, plastic panels with imitation brickwork, whatever. Before starting work, it is advisable to choose a suitable place where the false fireplace would fit perfectly. Many people choose a corner fireplace because it takes up less space. An excellent solution would be to place the dummy opposite front door in an unused corner. With this arrangement, the fireplace immediately becomes the main focus in the interior of the room, the center of attention.

A simple sketch of a future fireplace

At the final stage of preparation, the necessary tools for construction and suitable building materials should be collected. Let's briefly go over the materials, you will certainly need:

  • Metal profile for the construction of a frame for drywall.
  • To do solid construction you will need self-tapping screws for metal and wood to fix drywall.
  • Drywall for sheathing the frame and creating a false fireplace shape.
  • To align the corners, recesses from the screws, plaster is required.
  • A primer is required to prepare for tiling. Before painting, it is also better to prime the drywall.
  • At the preparation stage, you should decide how the finishing will be done and purchase the appropriate material: tiles, plastic panels, mosaics.

Additionally, you may need various decorative elements: corners, moldings and more.

Successful placement of an imitation of a real fireplace

To make a drywall corner fireplace, you will need a construction tool:

  • For marking, you will need a pencil or marker, ruler, tape measure, level, plumb line.
  • For basic work, you will need a screwdriver, a puncher, an electric jigsaw, a construction knife, metal shears, pliers, a screwdriver, a hammer.
  • Other tools may come in handy, it all depends on the complexity of the design and the methods of finishing it.

Step-by-step instructions will help you navigate the methodology of construction work:

Fixing a metal profile to the floor and wall

  • At the first stage, we need to make markings on the floor and wall, based on a drawing or sketch of a fireplace made in paper form. To better see the markup, use a marker, and for accuracy, use a ruler and a level. It is very important not to make serious mistakes when marking.
  • If you plan to install an electrical appliance inside the corner portal of your false fireplace, then you need to bring electricity to the corner. The easiest way is to make a socket behind the fireplace, where an electric fireplace or other built-in device will be connected.

The fireplace takes shape

  • The markup is ready, we produce further work with your own hands. We take a metal profile and build the necessary structure from it. We use the floor and walls as the basis for fastening. If necessary, make rounded elements, cut the profile and bend it.

Gypsum-boarded fireplace frame

  • When the frame is built, we start working with drywall. We need to cut a large sheet into small parts according to the dimensions in the drawing, and then attach these pieces of drywall to a metal frame. As we have already said, when making a corner fireplace from drywall with your own hands, you need to carefully monitor the dimensions so as not to waste the material in vain. Note that the self-tapping screws should be screwed to the end and even sunk a little into soft drywall so that their hats are not visible later.

Finishing the fireplace with suitable decorative materials

  • When the drywall is fixed, it is necessary to take putty and finalize the image of the fireplace, its shape. It is necessary to cover the recesses of the screws, make even corners and joints. When the putty dries, using a knife and sandpaper, the surface can be made more ideal. Finally, it is necessary to treat the drywall and putty with a primer to make it easier to fix the finishing materials, or to paint the resulting false fireplace.

Finishing the outside of the fireplace is completed

  • Having built the foundation of the structure, you can proceed directly to its external and internal decoration. It's better to start with the firebox. If you plan to install any device inside, then you should make the appropriate finish. For example, if a biofireplace burner or real candles are installed, then the base should be strengthened by laying tiles down, and finish the inside of the firebox with heat-resistant material, asbestos, steel. If the firebox is empty, the finish can be made at will from any materials.

The appearance of the corner fireplace in the room

  • After the firebox, we move on to the main outer part. To finish the corner fireplace, you can use ceramic tiles, stone or its imitation, plastic panels, siding, there are many options. Decorative material is glued to the frame with glue. Such glue usually dries for about a day.
  • A countertop should be installed on the top of the frame, you can choose a wooden or stone version, depending on your preferences. In the future, you can place decorative items, souvenirs on this tabletop.

Filling the fireplace insert with decorative elements

Note that in addition to expensive finishing materials there is quite budget options. For example, a fireplace in the corner of a room can simply be painted suitable color, the simplest option is white. Drywall, even primed, absorbs moisture well, so you will have to paint in two layers. You can glue the frame self-adhesive film with the right pattern or color. The film is not the most practical option, besides, we recommend choosing a German manufacturer, since the Chinese one is too big problems with quality (at the joints and in the corners it constantly peels off).

The appearance of the corner raised fireplace in the living room

Upon completion of construction, the necessary parting should be installed in the furnace: a biofireplace or an electric fireplace. An interesting option with placing a photo frame inside the firebox, on which there will be an image of a real fire.

Candles in the firebox are always in place, they can be real or artificial, for example, in the form of a kind of garland that gives a pleasant flicker. Decorative firewood fits perfectly into such a concept, which you can also do with your own hands, or buy ready-made options.

You can build a corner raised fireplace with your own hands not only from drywall, simple options are very popular when the structure is made from ordinary cardboard boxes.

Cardboard option

Recently, false fireplaces made of cardboard, in particular from suitable cardboard boxes, have been very popular. It is very convenient to make yourself a decorative New Year's fireplace from boxes that will support the festive mood, and then it will be dismantled.

Large boxes are considered the best material for creativity, for example, from a TV, furniture, refrigerator or other large household appliances. Making the corner version is a little more complicated than a simple rectangular one, because here you have to rack your brains a bit, developing the technology for cutting and gluing the box.

As always, the Internet will be a great helper, where you can find relevant pictures or watch a suitable video. If we briefly consider the construction technology of such a structure, then it does not differ much from the one described above.

Instructions for creating a cardboard corner fireplace

  • At the first stage, we prepare a suitable box, cut it in the right places, bend it and fix it with tape or masking tape.
  • Next, color in desired color, or wrapped in paper to give the design a monochromatic look.
  • Decorating can be done again with the help of paper, it is permissible to use foam plastic, plastic elements. If you have the ability to draw, then it is quite possible to apply suitable graphics to the outside of the fireplace.
  • By placing appropriate decorative elements inside the false fireplace and around it, we get a finished look.

To recreate the flickering of fire, you can put a garland inside an impromptu firebox. Artificial firewood will help to hide it, which can be made from the same cardboard by rolling it into a tube. For greater realism, glue cardboard knots to the firewood. You can hide a bright garland with natural decorative materials, for example, putting in the furnace fir branches and cones, and additionally placing candles.

In extreme cases, you can simply draw a fire on paper and put this drawing in the furnace. It will not be very elegant, but such an idea will help to support the general concept of comfort.

Fully sized real fireplace. They protrude from the wall or occupy a corner space, completely imitating the classic interior of a living room with a fireplace. They have a deep firebox (about 40 cm).

Conditional imitation a real fireplace in a wall niche or with a protruding portal. The size of the portal and the furnace hole is much smaller than the real one. 3. what is the design of the fireplace better fit to the interior of the living room.

The choice of materials depends on the solution of these issues.

For the frame, you can choose a tree, and then sheathe it with plywood or drywall. These materials are not suitable for the subsequent use of biofuel burners or in combination with electric fireplaces.

In this case, a strong metal profile should be taken for the frame, and the frame of the furnace walls and the portal should be made of non-combustible drywall grades.

Why install a fake fireplace?

In an apartment in a multi-storey building there are no conditions for installing a real fireplace. It is not possible to equip a chimney in it, and the ceilings are not intended for such a design.

And these are the basic requirements in order to obtain permission to build a hearth. Imitation of a plasterboard fireplace is an option for any apartment. Moreover, anyone who does not have special skills can do it.

Creating a design with your own hands is exciting. The finished product does not allow you to show your imagination.

You can independently make an exclusive thing that reflects the tastes and mood of the owners of the house. An open fire in an apartment is not at all necessary, it can be replaced with light bulbs that imitate a flame.

We cannot display this gallery Although the fireplace will not start a fire, it is not recommended to place flammable objects in it.

This condition is mandatory if electrical appliances will act as a backlight or heating batteries will be used.

Artificial fireplaces have a number of advantages:

  • you do not need to have a lot of funds for arranging the structure, you need to buy only the necessary materials;
  • all materials are easily accessible;
  • the decor can be changed at any time, depending on the mood;
  • a wide variety of decorative materials will help to realize any fantasy.

All artificial fireplaces can be divided into several groups. Reliable false fireplaces are similar in appearance to real ones.

During their manufacture, the conformity of dimensions and design is observed, only there is no real fire inside the firebox.

There you can hide a bio-fireplace that will resemble a real flame. This option is not cheap, but the design will look believable.

There are conditional artificial fireplaces, in which the portal protrudes from the wall. It can be decorated in any style. You can carefully place firewood in the firebox and put candles.

Symbolic fireplaces are made of any material. They have a feature - they have little in common with natural structures.

Such decorations are made of any materials. They can even be depicted on the wall of the room.

How to make a design from polyurethane?

Imitation of a fireplace in an apartment can be made from any blanks. The easiest way is to make a polyurethane structure.

All that is required is to purchase the material. After that, you should choose the style of the product and its dimensions. The installation itself won't take long.

Some install inside the firebox electric fireplace. In this case, it is important to consider the method of connecting the electrical appliance to the network, installation parameters, dimensions, ventilation, and others.

To make a fireplace, you need a polyurethane portal, putty, glue, materials that will decorate the structure.

Before starting the installation of such a hearth, it is necessary to determine its location. It is best to fix it on one of the side surfaces. The fireplace should not clutter up the room and not stand in the aisle.

If an electric fireplace will be located inside the firebox, then an outlet should be installed. It should be invisible and secure.

After that, you should make the frame of the firebox. To do this, take wooden blocks or a profile. The walls of the product are made of drywall, you can use plywood.

You need to decorate the firebox in the chosen style, you can put an electric fireplace there. After you need to decorate the design with a mantelpiece.

You can choose a portal made of wood. Their price is much higher than polyurethane, but their appearance is worth it.

Such a fireplace will be an interior decoration and a source of pride for the owners of the home. Wooden structures are often equipped with a built-in bar or other additional features.

How to make an artificial plywood fireplace?

With the help of imitation of a fireplace, you can mask the defects in the room. So, to change the old radiator to a new one, you need to spend a lot of money. It can be hidden behind a false fireplace, which will cost significantly less.

First of all, you need to make a design drawing. You can use ready-made drawings, which are on numerous photos in specialized magazines.

You just need to choose the model you like and transfer the dimensions to your drawing.

The frame is installed first. For its manufacture, you can use blocks of wood. After that, the frame should be sheathed with plywood.

If in the course of work you need to change something in the design, then this is very easy to do.

If there is a heating battery inside the future interior decoration, then when assembling the frame, you need to use screws.

In the cold season will be created heat, so the nails will not guarantee the fit of the elements.

The firebox is fixed on the back wall. All surfaces that will be viewed from the outside must be pasted over with a special film or decorated with a beautiful decor.

The corners of the portal can be hidden with a wooden layout, it can also be decorated with decor.

The resulting false fireplace can be easily removed to arrange a heating battery. To do this, you can put a metal mesh on it, on which it is worth pouring pebbles, laying firewood.

If you wish, you can decorate the firebox or make an imitation of fire in the fireplace with your own hands.

The final element is the fireplace grate. It can be ordered by specialists or made by yourself. To do this, you will need aluminum wire and a PVC tube.

A photo:

The finished grille can be painted with silver or gold paint. It must be fixed with wire in the corners.

The pipes of the heating battery can be covered by making a small podium. It is worth making a bar at the bottom of the fireplace so that the place is not empty.

The resulting design will be very similar to a real fireplace.

Furniture hearth

Before you make an imitation of a fireplace, you should analyze whether there is unnecessary furniture in the apartment. An old sideboard can become an interior decoration if you turn it into a false fireplace.

The design can be supplemented with lighting, which creates an imitation of fire in the fireplace.

First, at the sideboard, you need to remove the doors and the cabinet located below. There will be a section located at the top of the sideboard.

The structure should be turned on its side, two bars should be attached in front, and plywood should be screwed on top and bottom - now the fireplace will have the required thickness.

Cut a small hole in the cabinet door. It will play the role of a blower. In this part, you can lay real firewood.

The wooden backs from the old bed will act as a mantelpiece and pedestal. Remove the legs first.

After the frame of the fireplace is ready, it can be decorated. All polish should be removed. Surfaces must be rough.

After that, it is necessary to prime all parts of the future fireplace, putty and make the surface even. It is necessary to paint a false fireplace with acrylic paint.

Corners can be decorated with artificial stone or decorative bricks. After all the elements are glued, the finished product can be installed.

Imitation of a fireplace with your own hands is done quickly and easily. Along the entire perimeter of the firebox, it is necessary to lay led strip yellow or red.

At the bottom of the structure, you can pour sand or pebbles. Modern devices can be used to simulate fire.

Instead of LED ribbon fit digital photo frame. Animated files can be played on its LCD screen. All you need is to download the image of the flame and enjoy the comfort.

Plasterboard fireplace

Can be made from drywall corner structures. They will be appropriate in small rooms, since in any other place the structure will clutter up the room.

First of all, you need to do the calculations. If the design needs to cover the battery, then the hearth should be made mobile. In the event of an emergency, the fireplace can be quickly moved aside.

After drawing up the calculations and the scheme, you can begin to assemble your fireplace. The frame is mounted first. For this part, you can take the ceiling profile.

To simulate fire, you can use an LED strip. The firebox of a false fireplace can be made with double walls, between which lay a non-combustible insulation. If there is no need to hide the battery, then an electric fireplace can be installed in the firebox.

After the frame is assembled, you can decorate it. For clearance suitable tile. It must be laid on a special glue that can withstand high temperatures.

Be sure to leave holes in the walls of the fireplace. They are important for good air circulation, which heats the battery.

Imitation of a fireplace in the interior creates an atmosphere of comfort and warmth. Some decorate the design with candles that have different height and are located over the entire surface of the fireplace.

Mirror inserts look great. They will reflect the light of illumination or candles, making the hearth mysterious.

Doors in artificial fireplace not worth doing. If you really want to have a fireplace with a door, then it must be made of transparent material. An artificial flame should shine through it.

The fireplace device is one of interesting solutions interior, giving interior decoration dwellings internal warmth, comfort and home appeal. But it is far from always possible to fit a real fireplace into the design. As a rule, this is due to the inability to arrange a chimney, the lack of storage space for firewood and other reasons associated with the use of open fire in the room.

There is nothing difficult to create an imitation of a fireplace without heating in an apartment with your own hands. This will require drywall sheets, materials for exterior finish, fantasy for the project and good mood for work. The fake fireplace is ready and all that is left is to fill it with artificial flames, sit in an armchair and enjoy the play of light and shadow.

The main task of the illusion of live fire in the hearth is to form a spectacular, as realistic as possible sensation of a burning flame. Visualization is the main element of the task, but not the only one. To complete the perception of the picture, not only the visual component is necessary, but also the corresponding crackling and smell of burning panels, as well as the physical sensation of heat flow. For this there are modern techniques creating a "cold fire" in a false fireplace.

A bit of history

The first experiments to create a safe fire and the transformation domestic heaters in the decor elements of residential premises have been made for a long time. The origins of this direction include an electric fireplace with a heating element and a decorative panel. It was carried out in the form of glowing coals with internal illumination by a conventional incandescent lamp. Similar imitators could be found in the middle of the last century.

Somewhat later, the backlight was given dynamism. Electrical appliances were equipped with strips of foil that rose in streams warm air and reflected bizarre reflections on the body of the device, creating the effect of a flickering flame.

The first successful illusion of live fire was the cutting of light fabric, swaying in artificial air jets pumped by a built-in fan. This principle of imitation of open flame tongues formed the basis for the further development of the design direction and still has the right to life.

Cold fire, obtained in this way "in its pure form", has a sufficient level of entertainment, light reflections whimsically and uniquely change their position in space. But the realism of such an imitation is low, since the picture looks like a hand-drawn one. To add volume and “visual vitality”, a built-in system of mirrors and light filters is used, as well as electronic control lighting elements.

In addition to electronic-mechanical methods for creating the effect of live fire, digital and LCD technologies, cold steam generators, 3D holograms with a stereo effect and other achievements are widely used nowadays. modern development science and technology.

There are several ways to ignite safe fire in an apartment fireplace. Let's consider them in more detail.

Method one. Protozoa

If there is no desire or opportunity to engage in the manufacture of a complex electronic-mechanical structure, then you can use the simplest solution to the problem: paste a photographic image of burning firewood into the hearth of the fireplace. To give some semblance of realism, you need to install Spotlights with filters of various colors.

The most low-cost, but no less effective, will be the use of an old Christmas tree garland. To do this, mini-plafonds are trimmed with reflective foil from the inside. The controller built into the garland will allow you to simulate the dynamics of light transmission, as from living flames. To give the picture a visual stereo volume, you can choose a holographic 3D image of an open fire of a suitable size.

Method two. Theatrical

As the name implies, this method is borrowed from theatrical props. When, according to the plot of the play, it is necessary to make a safe fire on the stage, the decorators use just such a fire.

To make a theatrical fire in the fireplace, you need to stock up on the following items:

  • silent fan of medium power;
  • halogen lamps;
  • color filters of appropriate shades;
  • white silk.

The fan housing is dismantled. Its working part is rigidly attached to the bottom of your fireplace in such a way that the injected air flows perpendicular to the base. The wiring is laid in the cable channels and led outside the fireplace.

Below the working plane of the fan, three halogen lamps are mounted: one along the central axis of the fan, two at an angle of 30 degrees to each side. The direction of light on the future focus should be from the bottom up.

As brackets for fixtures, you can use the remains of a bent metal profile for plasterboard. Light filters are attached at a distance of 1-2 cm in front of each lamp. It is additionally recommended to put a light filter on the central lamp of blue color, this will give the flame more exotic highlights.

The next stage is the imitation of flames. Future tongues of flame are cut from white silk irregular shape and are mounted on the fan grille in an "artistic mess".

The open flame simulator is ready to go. It remains to adjust the fan power, the angle of the light filters and fill the artificial parts of the hearth with purchased birch charcoal.

Method three. water vapor

All of these devices can be purchased at retail or dismantled from old concert equipment that creates a vapor effect.

Fog generators are installed at the bottom of a sealed container for distilled water. Each generator in its design involves a membrane, which, due to high-frequency vibration, creates a local reduced pressure. Under conditions of low pressure, water evaporates at a temperature close to room temperature.

The fan is rigidly mounted in the zone of active evaporation and drives the formed steam up. LED backlighting, controlled by a decoder and controller, creates a very realistic visual sensation of the play of light and shadow of live flames.

In the lower part of the fireplace hearth, the steam is illuminated more strongly and there is a feeling of the presence of an open flame. At the top, the backlight is less intense and the illusion of smoke is created.

To prevent the formation of excess condensate, a diaphragm is installed in the upper part of the hearth.

Method four. The use of a salt ceiling

Salt electric lamp is a specific electric lamp. The plafond is made of natural crystal - salt. Under such a ceiling, a conventional incandescent lamp is installed. Passing through the edges of the crystal at different angles, the light flux is refracted and outwardly very realistically resembles the play of living flames.

Using shades various colors, a realistic imitation of live fire is created. And using lamps with different configurations and sizes, a small fire is easily imitated.

This method has its advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages include the simplicity in the manufacture of such an illusion, its realism. In addition, when heated from an incandescent lamp, the salt ceiling saturates ambient air negative ions. This leads to the neutralization of positive ions, which has a positive effect on the health of its owners.

The disadvantages of this method include the very significant price of such devices and their infrequent appearance in free sale.

Method five. TV instead of live fire

Using a flat LCD TV in a fireplace is one of the most technically simple options for solving the problem. But, it should be noted, far from low-cost.

If the choice falls on such a method of “igniting” an artificial flame in a fireplace, then first it makes sense to choose an LCD TV, and only then, based on its size, mount the fireplace body. The TV screen is installed on a recess of 10-12 cm in the hearth of the fireplace. Its plastic frame is hidden by decorative elements.

Through the USB port built into the TV, a recording found on the Internet is played on the screen. Depending on the mood and environment, you can choose one of several recordings: the play of flames, embers or a bright fire. The selected record with repeated repetition will serve as an imitation of live fire in the hearth.

If you place a system of mirrors and light filters along the internal planes, then the picture will visually acquire volume and look very natural.

Decorative firewood for fireplaces

To give a finished look to the fireplace under a cold fire, it is necessary to “put” firewood and coals. On the windows of specialized stores there is a huge selection of decorative firewood made of plastic or ceramics. Such dummies exactly repeat the texture of dry or partially burnt wood. Imitation, purchased or made with your own hands, will turn the hearth into the center of home warmth and comfort.

In order to obtain greater realism, a backlight with red light filters is installed under the wood-burning display. In more expensive versions of decorative firewood, internal lighting with a non-repeating flicker cycle is provided.

The article is intended to help the reader figure out how to make a decorative fireplace. Below, various types of materials are analyzed, two step-by-step master classes are offered.

For ease of reading, the article is divided into several chapters:

  • review of materials;
  • finishing tips;
  • two master classes on creating decorative false do-it-yourself fireplace made of drywall and plywood;

In conclusion it is given small review on the most popular models of finished fireplaces.

In a classic interior

Purpose of decorative fireplaces

A few decades ago, the fireplace served as a source of heating in the house; for a long time, firewood and coal were burned in it to heat the room. Now the need for it has disappeared - more modern and ergonomic heating systems did not leave him a chance to compete, making him a relic of the past.

Decorative fireplace in the interior of the living room

The need for such visualization of heat still exists in humans. Not every house and apartment allows the installation of a fireplace, therefore, decorative false fireplaces came to the rescue. It will not give a completely natural smell and fire, but it is able to create a pleasant atmosphere of comfort in the room.

Important: False fireplaces have no restrictions on use - they are installed in absolutely any room. shop the lineup has a huge number of proposals that are used indoors and on verandas or in gazebos.

In the big house

What to make a decorative portal for a fireplace with your own hands - advantages and disadvantages of materials

A decorative portal for a fireplace is made from a wide list of materials:

  • drywall;
  • brick;
  • Styrofoam;
  • chipboard;
  • polyurethane

In black

Drywall

Drywall is pressed sheets of gypsum, fastened with durable cardboard on the sides. The material is used in construction, it is perfect for making a decorative plasterboard fireplace with your own hands (false fireplace). It is used in the construction of partitions in apartments and private houses, in the installation of ceilings.

In a painted room

The main advantages of a decorative portal for a plasterboard fireplace include:

  • ease of work;
  • light weight;
  • low price.

Drywall is cut with an ordinary clerical knife, fixed with screws. The surface is puttied and painted with any paint, and with proper handling, the structures made of it are almost eternal.

In the bedroom

Important: Light weight will allow you to make a fireplace without weight restrictions. The drywall frame is lightweight and will not create any pressure on the supporting elements of the floor and walls. The low cost is obtained from the low cost of the sheet - 1 square meter costs 300-400 rubles, and consumables for construction are cheap.

The disadvantages include:

  • fragility;
  • low resistance to moisture;
  • "disposable" material.

Drywall, if the surface protective layer is damaged, quickly crumbles. Easily punched by hand or foot. You can get rid of this by tightly fastening sheets and more frequent placement of profiles, but this greatly spoils the fireplace. Moisture quickly destroys the gypsum. Sheets protect from any damp places.

Gypsum fireplace

Important: If the cut is incorrect or broken, the drywall will have to be completely replaced. It cannot be glued or twisted, therefore, errors in calculations are costly.

Brick

Brick is a classic material for conventional fireplaces - it is resistant to temperature, durable and has a very noble appearance. For false fireplaces, such properties do not matter, but a decorative element from it allows you to decorate the room. Brick:

  • durable;
  • resistant to moisture, temperature and mechanical damage;
  • relatively easy to work with.

With decorative trim

Inside the building, the brick is almost eternal. In rare cases, when the selected brick was of extremely poor quality, it begins to crumble, but, recently, this has not been common. High-quality masonry does not let water through and will not fall apart even from the strongest blows.

Brick is quite convenient to lay - for this it is enough to have a little experience and fairly cheap tools. An ordinary decorative portal rarely requires any major structural changes and is made in one day. Difficulties arise when working with used bricks, but for decorative elements we recommend using a new one.

The cons include:

  • high weight;
  • exactingness to support;
  • high cost.

Decorative firewood for the fireplace

High weight is the main negative property- the finished structure has a large mass, which puts pressure on the surrounding supports. From the same quality and the second minus - you need a solid floor that can withstand the future decoration.

Important: The cost is relatively higher than other materials, given that the walls of the structure are completely laid out of brick.

Styrofoam

Styrofoam is a foamed plastic that is excellent material to make a decorative fireplace with your own hands. Styrofoam has a large number of applications - from the insulation of houses due to its low thermal conductivity to the packaging of equipment due to its softness. As a decor, it is used in any area - it is plastic and easy to use.

The pluses include:

  • easy handling;
  • very light weight;
  • moisture resistance.

Styrofoam

The foam sheet can be given any shape. It is processed with a knife and a hacksaw. Using a grained sheet, similar imitations of stucco or other decorative effects are created. The low weight is due to the peculiarity of the material - more than half of the volume is pores, due to which low weight is achieved with a large size.

Important: The foam does not get wet - it repels water perfectly. In rare cases, granular foam collapses under the influence of water - this happens due to the use of weak glue to hold individual grains together.

In the red room

Main disadvantages:

  • decomposes under the influence of various chemicals;
  • brittle;
  • ignites easily.

Most adhesives and paints melt it - the foam structure is rapidly destroyed by aerosols, nitrates and solvents. Paint foam with water or acrylic paints, fasten - with special glue.

The brittleness is due to the structure. A small amount of pressure is enough to break it. A decorative fireplace made of it will be quite brittle, which requires special care in handling. Light weight finished product would result in the need for additional reinforcement.

decorative portal

Important: We must remember - the foam, like other materials made of combustible plastic, ignites quite easily. Its combustion temperature is much lower than that of wood, which can lead to a fire at a low temperature of a candle or heating elements.

chipboard

Laminated chipboard is a pressed mass of wood with an additional protective coating. She is processed wood shavings, which are pressed and glued under high pressure. Lamination gives any appearance.

The main advantages of portals for a fireplace made of chipboard include:

  • high strength;
  • durability;
  • convenience in work.

False fireplace in the interior of chipboard

Chipboard is similar to a tree, therefore, all the main advantages come from it. It is quite difficult to break it, and it is quite convenient to place the plates - just cut them into the desired dimensions and twist them together. The mass depends on the specific plate and its thickness, but to make a decorative fireplace with your own hands, use plates of small thickness.

The main disadvantages are:

  • low resistance of cuts to water;
  • complex surface treatment with various paints.

The adhesive that is used in the process of gluing the boards is quite easily destroyed by water. Moisture destroys the bonds between the chips extremely quickly, which becomes a big problem for finished construction. Water enters through cuts or chips, which makes them additionally protected from environmental conditions.

In the interior of the room

Laminate coating is difficult to paint. It represents polymer layer, which is difficult to stain with alkyd, acrylic and water-based paints - they do not fix on it, peeling off the film. Chipboard requires additional coating for decoration.

Polyurethane

Polyurethane contains a large number of materials - from liquid and viscous mixtures to completely solid plastics. The material is used in any construction process - a huge number of shapes and textures contribute to this. To make a fake fireplace with your own hands, polyurethane is the best fit.

Polyurethane

The advantages of decorative portals for a false fireplace made of polyurethane include:

  • moisture resistance;
  • undemanding care;
  • as opposed to styrofoam greater durability to various solvents.

Polyurethane is not afraid of water - it does not get wet from it and does not lose its properties. It is used as a waterproofing various pipes which constantly emit condensate. It does not require maintenance - in extremely rare cases, the surface becomes dirty.

A different structure allows you to paint it with absolutely any paint and not be limited to the use of various adhesives and aerosols. Polyurethane is resistant, its use is also acceptable on the street.

In a private house

Main negative sides are:

  • easy flammability;
  • light weight of the material.

Polyurethane only needs the fire of a match or cigarette to fuse - it is not much different from polyethylene in this. Special reinforced sheets are commercially available, but their use is comparable in cost to more natural materials. For some types of false fireplaces, this is important - an accidental spark from the wiring can burn half the property.

Polyurethane fireplace option

Light weight requires additional fixing of the structure, which is not always convenient, especially when the room already has a ready repair. This is offset by a heavier filling.

Do-it-yourself fireplace imitation in an apartment - portal finishing options

Finishing is an individual decision. The fireplace is pasted over with decorative brick tiles or painted to look like lime or marble - the absence of a real fire leaves a lot of room for imagination.

Idea: For brick fireplaces it is permissible not to use the finish - the brick itself has a natural look, but it is not difficult to supplement it with painting or decorative elements.

From white brick

Most materials require additional processing before decorating - chipboard or foam. Otherwise, various surface defects are extremely noticeable, which will spoil the appearance of the product.

Do-it-yourself decorative fireplace made of plasterboard - photo, step by step instructions

In the master class, it was dismantled how to properly create a false fireplace with your own hands from drywall. Step-by-step instructions and photos are presented later in the article.

The main idea of a decorative fireplace is to create a kind of shelf for equipment and disguise various wires. Since there are no special requirements for it, ordinary drywall is used, which will be attached to the frame.

Materials required for work:

  • plasterboard for sheathing;
  • metal profiles - wide and narrow;
  • drywall screws;
  • decorative brick;
  • countertop - for the top of the fireplace.
Designation View Har-ka Application Cardboard color Marking color
on the back side on the front side
GKL Ordinary It is used in buildings and rooms with dry and normal conditions. grey grey blue
GKLO With increased resistance to open flame They differ from ordinary ones by special reinforcing additives in the core material grey pink red
GKLV moisture resistant Differ from the usual use of hydrophobic additives It is used like conventional gypsum boards, in rooms with high humidity with the provision exhaust ventilation and subject to the protection of the front surface, for example: waterproofing, waterproof primers, paints, ceramic tiles green green blue
GKLVO Moisture resistant with increased resistance to open flame Differ from the usual combination of properties of GKLO and GKLV green green red

Advice: Brick is selected to taste. Almost all of them have the same thickness, are separated by color and texture. The best way buy individual bricks - the plates can be large for a false fireplace, and they will have to be cut.

A fireplace mantel is optional. Instead, use any other material - the portal for the fireplace will not suffer from this. For the back wall you will need a tree - it will be removable to provide convenient access to the sockets hidden behind it.

Of the tools you will need:

  • screwdriver;
  • level;
  • square;
  • spatula for attaching decorative bricks;
  • metal scissors.

Absolutely nothing can be thrown out of the list of tools - everyone represents the basic minimum, without which it will be impossible to do the job. A square and a level are required in order to create even walls and a surface - a curved fireplace will look extremely ugly.

Frame installation

The process of installing a portal for a decorative fireplace is divided into several steps, see the step-by-step photo instructions:

1. Work begins with the installation of a frame for the fireplace portal. To do this, assemble the base of four profiles. At this stage, narrow profiles are fixed as the bottom, into which transverse profiles will subsequently be inserted.

2. The next step is to reinforce the vertical profiles. Cut their side parts to the desired length, and screw the screws into a wide plane.

3. Fasten the profile for the main skin. They are fixed by analogy with the previous ones.

4. The floor is additionally reinforced with several horizontal profiles that allow you to create a flat platform for future decorative firewood for the fireplace.

5. The last step is to sheathe the horizontal elements and simulate a pipe that will hide the wires from the TV.

Facing

The cladding will be made of drywall. Cut it exactly to size with a construction knife. Start doing this from any side, successively go through 3 layers - 2 layers of cardboard and plaster. For convenience, make a margin of 3-4mm, which is then cut off with a knife.

Work starts from the ground up:

6. After the horizontal part is attached, add one more vertical stripe on each side - they will give a stronger foundation.

7. Next, we begin to sheathe the sides. All sheets are screwed on. The length of the screws should not be too long (3 mm) - just fix the sheet in the profile.

8. Attach the front sheets in the next step. Do curved sheet- it will serve as a ceiling for the “firebox” of a false fireplace. To do this, make shallow cuts on one side of the sheet - it will be screwed to the ceiling.

9. After that, we fasten the last sheets and proceed to the next step.

Finishing the imitation of the fireplace in the apartment

Do-it-yourself finishing of a decorative drywall fireplace includes brick cladding and fixing the countertop. The tabletop is fastened like a regular kitchen tabletop - with latches. Brick decoration is carried out with special glue and a spatula. Start from the bottom level.

10. We trim the transitions on the false fireplace with foam stucco molding, which is selected in size. It is an ordinary plinth, which is attached to the glue. Finishing is carried out from the bottom up, which allows you to place the bricks more tightly.

11. Make a back wall for the fireplace. Any sheet of not too thick plywood is suitable for it, on which the brick will be placed.

12. The end of the trim will be a narrow plinth, which will create a narrow transition between the trim and the countertop.

As a final step, decorate the structure with logs by placing them in an imitation firebox. Top shelf serves to install various equipment.

How to make a fake fireplace with your own hands - a step-by-step photo instruction from plywood with a mirror

As part of the master class, we will tell you how to make a false fireplace with your own hands (step-by-step instructions with a photo are attached) from plywood, wooden bars and a mirror. The dimensions of the finished structure are 1100 mm high, 220 mm deep and 900 mm wide.

The design is made entirely of wood, with a mirror insert on the back wall. The wall behind the fireplace will serve as it.

From the materials you will need:

  • plywood 2mm thick;
  • bars, 20x40mm;
  • board, 40x220mm;
  • wooden corners;
  • metal corners;
  • mirror;
  • dye.

Plywood and bars are made from any wood - it is desirable that they be sanded beforehand. There are no special requirements for the board, the main thing is that its surface is even. The dimensions of the mirror depend on the desired characteristics, 600x400 mm will be more than enough.

From the tools you will need:

  • wood saw;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill or drill for a screwdriver;
  • paint brushes.

Frame installation

The assembly of the frame is not very laborious - all the main guides should be on the edges of the intended sheets. It is advisable, before you start making a false fireplace with your own hands according to our step-by-step instructions with a photo, to develop an approximate drawing that will allow you to navigate the dimensions of the structure.

1. Between themselves, the bars are fastened with metal squares and wood screws - their strength is enough for the frame of a false fireplace.

2. Prepare the horizontal guides for the shelves. They are attached as follows.

3. The shape of the squares does not matter - any that were at hand are used. The most important is leveling - use the level at all stages of assembling the frame. After assembling the proposed frame, place the mirror. This is done with siding screws.

At the last stage, cutting plywood is not superfluous. Accuracy is not so important - deviations of up to 2-4 mm are permissible, since all joints will be closed with corners.

Coloring

This stage of installing a false fireplace is carried out with any suitable paint. It's worth painting thin layer, having previously removed the sheets of plywood from the frame - it will be extremely difficult to stain the surrounding walls.

Advice: We recommend to show the texture of the tree after a dense layer as follows - take any rag and run it over the still wet paint. Part of the surface layer will go to the rag and expose the texture. Do not take felt or cotton cloth - it will leave a lot of lint on the surface.

After drying, attach all the sheets to the frame of the portal of the false fireplace.

4. We glue the sheets to the frame

decoration

The decor for a false fireplace is considered to be corners that will hide cosmetic defects in plywood, various planks and construction decorative panels. We recommend starting work from the corners.

5. Thin wood splits when turning with a screw, therefore, before twisting the corner, drill a hole in it with a drill slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw.

6. After that, the screw is twisted, attaching the corner.

7. A bar is attached to the top of the fireplace, to which the corners are screwed in advance. It allows you to hide the joint of plywood sheets.

8. For additional decor, a construction panel was purchased from the store. It looks like stucco and is pre-painted. It is attached by screwing from the inside of the sheet.

9. After that, arrange the rest of the decorative elements: candles, garlands or paintings. Place logs under the bottom shelf.

Options for purchased decorative fireplaces

Decorative fireplaces are taking over the market home decor. Ready solutions have the ability to carry, and the main principle of operation is a system of mirrors with lamps, sound effects.

All offered fireplaces are divided into two functional groups:

  • with heating;
  • without him.

cozy atmosphere

The first option plays the role of not only a decorative element, but also a heater - heating elements or other heaters are placed in them, which, with the help of a fan system, allow heating the room. Do not buy cheap Chinese solutions - they are dangerous for an apartment in terms of fire safety and put a lot of stress on the power grid. Keep this in mind, because often the heat from it becomes invisible against the background of the electricity expended.

The second option is completely decorative and does not provide any benefit other than decorative effect for the premises. In such fireplaces, various fire imitation systems are used: from ordinary lamps and multi-colored patches to full-fledged screens, it all depends on the budget and imagination of the manufacturer.
