Mosaic tiles on walls and floors. Mosaic on the grid - a variety of colors, materials and textures

MOSAIC FOR WALLS - How to put tiles on the wall? Before gluing the mosaic tiles to the wall, it is necessary to prepare the surface. If when laying regular tiles or wallpapering flaws in the evenness of the walls can be hidden, then when working with mosaic tiles, the requirements for the surface are much higher.

There are many various ways identify uneven areas on the wall. The simplest of them is the use of a long rail. One side of it must be rubbed with chalk and pressed against the wall and slowly lowered to the floor. Where there are unpainted places, there are depressions. They need to be plastered.

MOSAIC COATING - Before gluing the mosaic tiles, it is necessary to mark the wall. Make it easy with a pencil. In the process of marking, sheets can be held by hand or grabbed with adhesive tape. It is important that the wall is dry. Marking minimizes the possibility of distortion.

It should be noted that the laying technology mosaic tiles, involves the use of a specialtile adhesive . Finished dry mixes and reactive adhesives sold in any hardware store. They must be diluted exactly in the proportions indicated on the package. Only in this case will good adhesion be ensured.

Mosaic wall cladding - Laying mosaic tiles on the grid is done in sheets. Before gluing, it is necessary to apply a layer of adhesive to the wall with a notched trowel. It hardens within 10-15 minutes, so calculate in advance how many tiles you can lay during this time.

Then the tile is applied to the wall and rolled with a special roller. It is impossible to level such a tile with your hands, since it has a flexible structure.

This is where the laying of the mosaic tiles in its main part ends. It remains to wait about half an hour and remove protective film or paper. The paper can be easily removed by moistening the tile with water. After a day, when the glue is completely dry, you can proceed to grouting with a special mixture. How to dilute the mixture and apply it is written on the package.

MOSAIC FOR THE FLOOR - How to put a mosaic on the floor? The laying procedure here is identical to working with walls. As with conventional tiles, you need to prepare the base. But in the case of mosaics, the surface quality should be much higher. Also, especially carefully you need to monitor the observance of proportions when mixing glue. The fact is that there is a high load on the floor, and when facing such a surface, it is important to pay attention to even the smallest details.

MOSAIC FLOOR-laying mosaics on the floor.

Basic rules to follow when laying mosaic tiles on the floor.

When laying mosaic tiles, it is important to adhere to the following basic rules:

1. Sufficient pressure on tiles, mosaics;

2. Consistency adhesive mixture;

3. Compliance with open time;

4. Cleanliness of the tool;

Mosaic tiles are always a good choice. It is aesthetic and effective. One question: how to produce quality styling very small mosaic? But do not worry - the tiles are not glued separately. It is assembled in large modules, which are easy and not difficult to stack.

What materials and tools will be needed?

Mosaic is attached to a grid or paper - therefore, the modules are bent, which allows gluing tiles on surfaces of any shape. It can be cut with scissors, adjusting to the required size.

There is a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes of mosaics, after deciding on a design, the only thing left is to lay it down.

The following materials and tools will be needed for work:

 • Primer. If you plan to lay mosaic tiles in the bathroom or in the kitchen, then you should purchase a waterproof product with protection against fungus.
 • Glue should be chosen special - for mosaics.
 • Grout for seams.
 • Spatula for leveling the surface of the mosaic tile (when choosing, remember that it bends).
 • . The smaller the module, the smaller the teeth.
 • A brush with which it will be necessary to apply a primer.
 • Mixer for mixing the adhesive mixture. It is possible without it - then you have to work very carefully with your hands. Lumps are not needed.
 • Capacity for glue - a bucket or basin.
 • Trowel spatula. Preferably rubber.
 • Skin. It will need to sand the surface of the wall.
 • Cement.
 • Rag. Kitchen sponge or rags - to remove the remnants of consumables from the tiles in time.

It is not necessary to buy cement - only if the surfaces are very crooked. It is necessary to level the wall or floor. Due to the flexible base, mosaic tiles will lie on any wall. uneven wall under the tile - it's noticeable. And it's not pretty.

How to lay out mosaic tiles?

Mosaic modules are different, today they are made of glass, ceramics, polymer materials- the end user should be of little interest. The durability of the product and its price depend on the raw materials. You should choose a mosaic based on your own taste and the planned design of the room.

The only thing to pay attention to is the base. The tile can be fixed on a grid or on thick paper. Some nuances depend on this - how to smear glue, and which side to attach. The main thing is not to confuse.

Installation steps:

 • surface preparation;
 • performing the necessary measurements;
 • glue preparation;
 • applying glue to the surface;
 • gluing the module;
 • alignment;
 • grouting.

Surface preparation and adhesive preparation

The surface must be cleaned of the remnants of the previous finish, degreased, sanded. If necessary, it is necessary to pre-align and go through the primer.

It is necessary to carefully take measurements, draw markings on the surface. Many people are too lazy to do this, but made to last First stage just speeds up the work.

When preparing the glue, it is necessary to mix the dry mixture with water in the proportion indicated on the package. To begin with, you should cook a little - so that it is enough for an hour of work. The glue dries quickly.

If a composition is purchased where the glue and thickener are packaged separately, it is necessary to knead both dry components at once. Mixing one thing with water first, then the second, and then pouring everything into one bowl is the right way to get the wrong consistency.

Module bonding process

The adhesive should be applied with a relief spatula. In which direction to make grooves - it does not matter.

Important! If the surface of the adhesive has taken on a film, you need to smear it again - otherwise the tile will not last long.

If the tile is paper-based, the adhesive should be applied in “dots”. Five are enough: four in the corners and one in the middle. The amount of glue should be such that when pressed, it spreads over the entire area of the tile.

Module sticking:

 • it should be carefully straightened and pressed: a small amount of glue should come out;
 • tiles on mesh basis fastened with a mosaic outside;
 • the paper-based module is attached with a mosaic inside. The paper is then removed. To separate the base, it is enough to wet it.

Attention! Peel off paper cover you need half an hour after you glued the module to the wall. If a few squares fell off with paper, it's not scary. They are easy to smear with glue and put back into place.

Like tiles, laying a mosaic on a wall should start from the corner. Experienced builders-finishers are advised to choose the corner that catches the eye first.

Ordinary tiles are allowed to be fixed directly on wet putty. Is it possible to do this with a mosaic? Yes, only if you plan to finish it, for example, in a bedroom or living room. For wet rooms this method is not suitable.

Next, you need to carefully smooth the glued module with a grater and remove unnecessary. Use a damp cloth to wipe away glue stains and other debris. You should not leave it for later: the dirt will harden and it will be difficult to get rid of it.

Grouting

You can start after a day or two, when the glue has completely hardened. This should be done in half. It is allowed to wash the tiles and start cleaning off the excess grout after 20–30 minutes, otherwise they will dry out. For washing, special alcohol solutions are sold, but you can get by with water. You can overwrite with glue, only by adding less fixer.

Laying mosaic tiles on the floor

Laying tiles on the floor does not require special knowledge and skills. Working with floors has the same principles as with walls. Desirable cement strainer. Laying mosaic on the floor is a simple process:

 • mix glue;
 • apply to the surface;
 • attach the module;
 • clean and wipe the seams.

Tips for laying mosaic tiles:

 • Lay the tiles with a suitable adhesive.
 • To achieve maximum strength and durability, experts recommend laying tiles in the cold (ideally - +5 degrees).
 • Mosaic tiles are cut. To cut, you need pliers. When working with them, you should wear a mask and goggles: fragments fly off, falling into the face.
 • It is advisable to apply waterproofing or special protective agent for seams - even if the materials themselves are moisture resistant.
 • If the details of the mosaic tile are glass or metal, you should refrain from hard sponges: they can leave scratches.
 • In addition to these tools, you will need a ruler, level, crosses. Before starting work, you need to make markup.

Glue must be selected on a latex basis. Good choice- glue that matches the color of the tile. You need to look at the expiration date and quality of the material. Not every expensive glue is good, but quality is never cheap.

The answer to the question of how to lay mosaic tiles correctly so that the result long time pleasing to the eye, simple: it is necessary to adhere to several simple rules and select high-quality consumables.

Mosaic tiles can add sophistication and originality to even the most nondescript and conservative interior. This material has gained popularity among consumers and is in demand along with other facing materials. Mosaic laying works are more expensive and significantly increase the repair budget. With the advent of mini-tiles on the grid, laying technology has become easier, and it will be possible to implement the intended design project on your own.

Mosaic tiles: the benefits of laying

Mosaic tiles are a popular type of facing material, widely used for decoration of bathrooms, saunas, swimming pools, kitchens, living rooms and facades. Mosaic represents decorative compositions from many small glass, ceramic, mica elements. All parts are fastened on an elastic mesh, forming a flexible finishing material.

Mosaic tile installation - modern, original and stylish solution interior design, allowing to implement different design ideas. Before you do final choice in favor of the mosaic, you should familiarize yourself with the features of the cladding:

 1. Small tiles are made from materials that are resistant to high humidity and temperature fluctuations. High wear resistance allows the use mosaic decor in public places.
 2. Mosaic decoration has similar characteristics with tiled cladding: strength and durability. The aesthetic and attractive appearance of the product is maintained for a long time.
 3. Possibility of mounting on surfaces of various configurations: rounded niches and bath screens. The mosaic panel is easy to cut into pieces of the desired shape - this simplifies laying in hard-to-reach places.
 4. A large assortment of mosaics allows you to create any decorative panel, interesting pattern or ornament.

Among the disadvantages of mosaic decoration include:

 • high cost of the material;
 • more complex installation compared to laying conventional ceramic tiles;
 • high-quality mosaic laying requires careful preparation of the base.

The advantages of facing with mosaic tiles exceed its disadvantages. It is better to entrust the laying of a wall or a panel of small mosaics to a professional. Not to overpay for work experienced craftsman you can highlight a small accent area and lay out a strip of mosaic yourself.

Features of different types of mosaic tiles

Based on the materials of manufacture, the following types of mosaics are distinguished:

 1. Stone. Tiles are made of quartz, marble, granite, slate or travertine. This material is different high strength, therefore, it is used not only for finishing walls, but also for floors. Stone mosaic has a natural aesthetics, gives the room special style. Some manufacturers offer exclusive collections of malachite or agate.
 2. Glass. Ideal for surfaces exposed to moisture. However, the material is less resistant to impacts and scratches, so it is not recommended for laying on floors or finishing countertops. Glass mosaic with a translucent structure must be attached to a special adhesive.
 3. Ceramic. Expensive material, suitable for finishing any area of the house. The mosaic is covered with a glossy glaze or remains matte. Laying ceramic mini-tiles allows you to get a relief non-slip surface. Ceramics is resistant to mechanical damage and abrasive compositions of detergents.

According to the method of application, a mosaic is distinguished on paper and on a stack. The first option is tiles with front side covered paper base. After installation, the paper is removed.

The second option is mosaic elements with reverse side connected by a mesh, which is applied to the adhesive solution. This mosaic is easier to install.

Mesh for mosaic tiles happens different types. The most durable and easy to install - polyurethane. They adhere securely to the mosaic and are suitable for installation in damp environments. More cheap option- products on gauze mesh. They can be used in areas with low traffic. In high-traffic areas, tiles on a fabric base will quickly become loose and may fall off.

Important! Before buying, you need to make sure that the mesh is firmly fixed on the mini-tile. Even with sagging, the mosaic should not “depart” from the base. During the laying of a defective product, problems may arise - the mosaic will not lay down evenly and the pattern may move.

Foundation Requirements

Mosaic is laid on a flat, smooth base. If this requirement is neglected, then the mesh flexible fabric will repeat all the protrusions and the result will turn out to be “embossed”.

Surface preparation before laying involves the following activities:

 1. Check the evenness of the coating. Minor differences in coating can be corrected with the thickness of the adhesive. However, this method does not always work. Optimum - preliminary plastering and grouting of the surface. With significant differences in the base, it is better to level it using sheets of moisture-resistant drywall.
 2. Clean the surface. Before installing mosaic tiles, it is necessary to remove dirt and dust. The remains of the plaster after grouting must be collected with a vacuum cleaner, and the coating should be wiped with a clean rag.
 3. Prime the base - this will improve the adhesive characteristics of the materials and completely rid the surface of dust. The compositions are optimally suited for work deep penetration.

The choice of adhesive for laying mosaic tiles

To perform the installation, it is necessary to choose the right adhesive for mosaic tiles. Three types of adhesive are acceptable:

 • dispersion one-component;
 • adhesive based on cement of a rigid or elastic composition;
 • reactive adhesive solution, consisting of 2 components (base and hardener).

When buying glue, you must take into account the type of mosaic tiles, the nature of the surface and the room. Recommendations for choosing an adhesive composition based on the tile material:

 1. Ceramic products - white cement glue, gray color. For lining a deformable or non-absorbent substrate, an elastic compound should be used; for finishing a stable mineral substrate, any tile adhesive will do.
 2. A natural stone. Marble is sensitive to moisture and can change color with prolonged contact, so this mosaic is fixed on a quick-hardening cement composition or reactive glue.
 3. Glass mosaic. Required condition - White color adhesive solution. It can be a cement or polyurethane composition. To finish the pool, bath or shower, add a plasticizer (liquid latex) to the glue. This component will provide necessary waterproofing grounds. Finishing can be done with epoxy glue.

Important! When lining a swimming pool or bathroom, it is necessary to allow the adhesive to stand for at least two weeks after laying the mosaic. After this period, the container can be filled with water. Finishing work should be carried out at an air temperature of at least + 5 ° C.

Mosaic installation step by step

Marking the tiled base

First you need to make a “dry” layout of the mosaic and mark the base. This is necessary to accurately determine the location of the elements and make sure the color matches. If the layout step is missed, then in the process of work it may turn out that there is a canvas of a different color or format in the batch.

Having laid out the intended pattern on the surface, the parts of the tile must be fixed with adhesive tape and the canvases numbered - this will facilitate the further assembly of the ornament. Following the completed layout, a sketch is created. When developing a drawing of a mosaic tile, some nuances must be taken into account:

 1. It is desirable to lay out the picture from the most illuminated area or from the center of the image. The tile will have to be cut, so the pieces of the tiles should be located at the edges or in inside corners- in inconspicuous parts.
 2. If there are external corners, the layout of the pattern begins with them. The priority element for starting work is any decorative element premises: panel, mirror, niche.

After laying out, numbering and creating a detailed sketch, the mosaic sheets must be carefully folded back into the boxes. On the wall or on the floor, it is necessary to mark the boundaries of the location of the mosaic canvas - a laser ruler is optimal for this.

Preparation of tools and glue kneading

Mosaic tile installation kit includes:

 • moisture resistant primer with antifungal effect;
 • adhesive composition;
 • grout;
 • rubberized spatula for leveling and pressing plates;
 • notched trowel;
 • roller for priming the surface;
 • construction mixer for uniform mixing of glue;
 • container for preparing glue.

Mixing is carried out according to the manufacturer's instructions. In this case, you must adhere to some rules:

 • first, the container is poured with water, and then the dry mixture is added;
 • the solution is mixed twice with an interval of 5 minutes;
 • the duration of one batch with a mixer is 1 minute at medium speed; Increasing the mixing speed and time may cause the adhesive to thin out.

Laying finishing material

The sequence of laying mosaic tiles:

 1. Apply the adhesive solution to the prepared surface with a notched trowel - grooves should form. At one time it is necessary to cover the area, which will turn out to be lined within half an hour.
 2. Attach the mosaic sheet to the base with the grid down and press it down a little. To evenly distribute the adhesive, the surface can be rolled with a roller. It is necessary to ensure that the distance between the squares remains the same, and the glue does not penetrate the front of the mosaic. To keep the gaps between the elements at the same level, you need to use crosses.
 3. Carefully remove the film and leave the glue to dry for one to two days. Excess adhesive solution must be removed half an hour after fixing the mosaic - it will be difficult to clean the tile later.

Important! Walking on freshly laid tiles is not allowed. Loads are permissible only after the final drying and fixing of the mosaic.

Grout "mosaic" seams

The order of grouting seams:

 1. Prepare grout according to package instructions.
 2. For the convenience of cleaning tiles from traces of grouting, it is advisable to pre-treat the surface with protective sprays. After 20-30 minutes, you can start mashing the seams.
 3. Put grout on the spatula and with wide movements, moving diagonally, fill the seams. The spatula should be slightly pressed down so that the grout is slightly below the level of the mosaic.
 4. The solution must be slightly moistened so that it is saturated with water and does not crack. You can use a damp sponge or a small spray bottle to water the flowers.
 5. After 20 minutes, when the solution hardens a little, the excess of the mixture must be removed by rubbing a damp hard sponge over the coating. The remains of stubborn cement dust can be removed with a 5% sulfuric acid solution.
 6. Rinse the mosaic with clean water.

Advice. Marble mosaic requires special care when rubbing the seams. The stone has pores into which the mortar can penetrate and change the color of the tile.

 1. It is advisable to periodically treat the mosaic coating in the bathroom with special fungicidal agents. This must be done if ventilation does not cope with its task. High humidity can cause mold and mildew to grow on the walls.
 2. For cleaning, it is desirable to choose gel-like detergents without abrasive components.
 3. Contaminated areas of the panel can be wiped with a soft sponge dipped in soapy water. When finished, rinse with water and wipe dry.
 4. The surface of the mosaic must not be rubbed with oily substances, products with phosphoric acid and wax.

Laying mosaic tiles: video

The bathroom is the face of the whole house, guests inevitably get there. Therefore, it should look presentable. There are no trifles in this matter: the floor, ceiling, walls must be covered not only with practical, but also beautiful material convenient to maintain and maintain. Alternatively, along with ceramic tiles large sizes, builders began to use mosaic.

Traditionally, mosaic is considered a material upper class and previously not many could afford to use it for repairs. The main difficulty was laying many small tiles, but now this problem has been solved. Mosaic on a grid that combines individual particles into blocks that are convenient for installation allows you to fasten the material quickly and without special efforts. But before you go to the store, you should learn more about the varieties of mosaic tiles, their purpose and the nuances of laying.

Mosaic tiles in the interior

Features of the material and its varieties

Mosaic is a small (1x1 cm) fragments finishing materials, located at regular intervals and forming a single picture. In the case under consideration, these elements are fixed on a flexible metal mesh. Such material can be used for floor and wall cladding, as a coating for kitchen furniture and even for decorating facades and garden paths.

According to the type of surface, the mosaic is glossy and matte. Gloss is easier to maintain and is more often used for walls in rooms with high humidity(bathroom, kitchen) and matte tiles, which has anti-slip properties, is more suitable for flooring.

Another criterion affecting appearance, specifications and the cost of the mosaic - the material of manufacture. On sale is a mosaic of:

What should be the tiled base?

Unlike ordinary tiles, mosaics are placed not just on a flat surface, but on a perfect surface. smooth surface, otherwise, due to the flexible mesh base, which repeats any irregularities, the pattern will be spoiled, and the edges will not converge. Therefore, the technology of laying mosaic tiles implies careful preparation grounds.

Puttying small irregularities on the walls

First, the walls or floor are cleaned of old coatings and dust. Then they are checked by level for the presence of height differences. To make it easier to eliminate irregularities, use the following technique - thickly rub an even rail with chalk right size and, pressing it well, run it along the walls or floor. In places where chalk will not remain, there are depressions that need to be filled with plaster or concrete mix(if mosaic is being laid on the floor). In case of serious flaws and cracks, it is more rational and easier to level the walls with drywall, while not forgetting to wipe the joints and caps of self-tapping screws.

The prepared surface is dedusted and treated with a deep penetration primer. This will improve adhesion, providing better bonding of materials. After the composition has dried, you can proceed to the installation of the mosaic.

How to choose the right adhesive for mosaic tiles?

Glue

Some types of mosaics are very capricious to adhesives, so you need to choose an adhesive based on the specific material with which you plan to work. Laying the mosaic on the grid is carried out using the following compositions:

 • Glue is standard. It consists of sand, Portland cement and modifying additives. Suitable for laying opaque tiles on standard surfaces.
 • polymer composition. Polymer components provide reliable adhesion, making the adhesive suitable for facing surfaces of complex shapes.
 • Glue is white. It includes the same components as the standard one, the only difference is the white color supported by special components. Laying glass mosaic performed only on this solution.
 • Homemade solution. The necessary ingredients are water, cement and fine, well-sifted sand. All components are mixed to a consistency of medium density with a drill with a special nozzle. The cost of such glue will be low, but it is better to use it for concrete or stone mosaics.

If you have to work with wooden surface or drywall - glue must be selected individually. In particular, for wood cladding, it is recommended to add PVA to standard adhesives.

Mosaic laying technology

The question of how to glue mosaic tiles on a grid correctly is of interest to many beginner tilers. You should start by laying out the mosaic fragments in the selected order on horizontal surface. For comfort further work tiles should be numbered. However, if your mosaic does not have a specific pattern, this step can be neglected.

Glue distribution

Laying mosaic tiles begins with the most noticeable area. This is necessary in order to make it easier to disguise the places where the material is trimmed. It is advisable to think over the laying scheme and the location of the slices in advance. If the pattern and footage of the surface involves trimming only along the seam, you can divide the mesh with ordinary scissors-nippers, and you will have to use a glass cutter to accurately cut the tile itself.

The adhesive is applied to the surface to be coated in small portions, given that it takes about 15 minutes to dry. The solution is distributed with a notched trowel (tooth height 6-8 mm), a tile is applied to it and leveled. The result is checked by level. In order for the mosaic to stand up well, it is impossible to press it with your hands; instead, the laid tiles are rolled with a rubber roller. If you are laying tiles on a kitchen "apron", before starting work, its lower border is outlined by a line and fixed along it metallic profile on which the material will be based.

The material is gently pressed with a roller

Pay attention to the distance between the sheets, it should match the gaps between individual tile fragments. If at the joints of walls or other surfaces after trimming there are noticeable ends of the grid, they can be hidden under a decorative stroke. After finishing laying, fresh glue is used to clean the mosaic coating - remove excess mortar with a damp sponge. Then the surface is wiped dry and left to dry for 2-3 days.

Grouting

Laying mosaic tiles with your own hands is completed by cleaning the seams. To do this, you will need a grout mixture. There are compositions on cement, latex and epoxy based. When choosing, be guided by the operating conditions of the tile, if it will be subjected to thermal loads and chemical substances, it is worth taking a grout with the addition epoxy resin. But keep in mind that its use will require prior protective treatment wax mosaics.

Grouting with white compound

Equally important is the color of the grout. She sets off mosaic pattern and, being unsuccessfully selected, is capable of spoiling the whole picture. To make sure suitable combination colors, compare when buying grout with a small piece of your tile.

The selected mixture is diluted with water, referring to the instructions on the package. If you use a grout with a water-repellent effect, then in the process of preparing the solution, you cannot do without a drill with a mixing nozzle. It is recommended to apply the solution rubber spatula. The work will go faster if you use a 15-20 cm spatula.

The final touch - cleaning the coating from excess grout

The grout mixture dries in 10-15 minutes, after which the excess composition is removed by wiping the surface of the mosaic with a damp sponge in circular motions. Frequent rinsing of the sponge will prevent streaks from appearing on the tiles. The laying of the mosaic is over, it remains only to allow the coating to dry.

- This creative process where attention to detail never fails. When choosing a wall covering material, consider the conditions under which it will be used, as well as how the tile is combined with the floor, ceiling and other elements. Pay special attention to textiles. It is good if it repeats the color and fragments of the pattern of the selected coating.

Let's summarize. With attention to detail and use necessary tools, the technology of laying mosaics on a grid is not a problem even for a non-professional. So maybe you should show a little diligence and imagination and decorate the interior of your house with a mosaic pattern?

Simultaneously with the increase in the range of finishing materials, mosaics have become increasingly popular.

Whereas before the mosaic was exclusively handmade, today there is such a finishing option as mosaic tiles on a grid, the laying of which does not involve a large number time.

This method of fixing the mosaic does not require painstaking work, since you can buy already finished sheets and even whole panels.

Mosaic on grid is excellent alternative wall, ceiling or floor cladding tiles. Its main advantage lies in the ease of mounting on the surface. With such work at height, you may need to rent special equipment ().

And taking into account the fact that the materials used to create mosaic panels are resistant to moisture, temperature changes and mechanical damage, their scope is practically unlimited.

Rules for laying mosaic tiles

The tile is located on the grid. Mosaic can be easily cut into sheets of a certain size and placed on a wall, floor or ceiling.

Before the start of the finishing works It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the rules for such decoration of the room:

 1. It is best to start laying tiles from the center, since they have a certain size, and it is unlikely that a whole number of tiles can be placed on one surface. Usually it has to be cut off, and it is better if the cut off parts are located at the edges, where they will not be so noticeable.
 2. Before creating a specific pattern on the wall, you should make a sketch of the desired image.
 3. The adhesive with which the mosaic mesh will be attached to the surface must be white or match the color of the tile itself. When buying glue, ask the seller about its composition, since the material of the surface to be decorated, as well as the conditions in the room where the mosaic will be installed, are of considerable importance in this matter. It is recommended to use an adhesive that has a latex base.

The technology of laying mosaic on the grid

 • Leveling the surface. Before starting any finishing work, you need to prepare the surface.

Since this is not just a tile, but a mosaic tile on a grid, laying it suggests ideal flat surface. There are many ways to level, as well as the materials needed to achieve this.

First, we check the walls for their evenness, for which we take a two-meter rail and paint over one side of it with chalk. Then we apply this particular side to the wall to be checked and, pressing it, slowly lower it down.

In those places that have remained clean, there are depressions that need to be repaired, plastered and a control check is made.

 • We mark the wall. Marking can be done provided that the surface we need is completely dry. To do this, we fix the mosaic sheets with electrical tape / adhesive tape and outline the boundaries with a pencil or chalk. This marking is necessary in order for the laying to be even.
 • Apply glue to the surface of the wall. The section of the wall covered with glue is determined on the basis that it will take about 15 minutes for the glue to dry.

In order to improve the quality of gluing, we also glue each sheet, after which we apply it with paper to ourselves to a pre-marked place. Then carefully roll the glued sheet with a rubber roller.

It is important to ensure that the distance between the sheets is exactly the same as the distance between the mosaic tiles.

 • After 30 minutes, when the glue is completely dry, cover the tile with water so that the paper covering it gets wet and can be easily removed.
 • After two days, we overwrite the seams with a special grout following the instructions for use that come with it. Before using the grout, clean the seams of glue. The grout is applied with a rubber spatula. The area of the wall section processed at a time should not exceed two square meters.
 • After complete drying of the mosaic and removal of excess grout with diagonal movements, polish it with a soft cloth.

Thus, laying mosaic tiles on a grid minimizes your effort, time and even money if you decide to do it yourself without resorting to the help of master tilers.
