Painting the balcony from the inside: what to consider and what paint to choose? All the subtleties of self-painting the balcony

Many people think that painting a balcony is the simplest thing that can be among all types of finishes. But is it? Not really. Each type of work is different and has its own challenges. Wall painting also has its own characteristics. For example, many are faced with the following problem: how to choose the right paint for the balcony? Which of the species is the best? And how to carry out the process itself qualitatively? In addition, it is important to be aware of the difference in painting the balcony from the inside and outside. Their requirements are completely different.

Let's take a closer look at this topic in order to make the balcony paint finish high-quality, beautiful and durable.

Difference between exterior and interior paint

Let's start with this, since you need to understand the requirements for the product from the outside and from the inside. If we talk about the internal painting of the balcony, then the material must first of all be environmentally friendly so as not to harm the residents of the apartment or house. Since there is no rain or other negative atmospheric precipitation indoors, the paint can be taken inexpensively, without much resistance to weather phenomena. Such paint should look beautiful, hide all the minor imperfections of the walls and please your eye.

As for painting on the outside, the coating requires a special approach. The paint must be highly resistant to weather conditions. It should not wash off after a few days of rain. Good adhesion, wear resistance and moisture resistance are important. But, it also happens that the balcony is sheathed with siding or corrugated board. They already have final painting. But, during the operation, they may need to be tinted. If we talk about a specific type of paint, then you need to start from a specific type of coating. Let's look at how the choice of paint is affected by the surface to be painted.

Coloring of corrugated board

If the balcony is paneled, it is better to remove them and paint indoors. Immediately before work, you should prepare a profile: clean rusty places sandpaper, remove grease stains with alcohol or solvent, repair scratches and prime the sheet. As for paint for corrugated board, we recommend choosing from this list:

  1. Alkyd composition.
  2. Acrylic paints.
  3. polyurethane products.
  4. Epoxy paint.

You can achieve maximum quality using a sprayer.

Painting PVC panels

Finishing PVC panels- a fairly common occurrence for a balcony. But over time, they can fade, lose their color and look unpresentable. To process such panels, you need to use a special composition. For example, acrylic paint from the Galamix line is suitable. Paint feature: wear resistance, immunity to sunlight and dirt.

Before painting, the panels are degreased with a solvent or alcohol. Note that paint can make the panels darker than original color. But, this is not entirely good, since dark colors will attract the sun's rays and heat up, which will shorten the life of the plastic.

Chipboard staining

Many have old apartments, the so-called "Khrushchevs", in which the balcony is sheathed with chipboard slabs. Or you have a loggia, which was also sheathed with such panels over a concrete parapet or brickwork. Painting them is simple, because many have dealt with wood.

The first step is cleaning, after which the surface is degreased and a primer is performed. All defects and flaws are eliminated with putty. As for paint, choose from acrylics or oils. Application is possible with a roller, brush or spray gun.

Brickwork painting

Often facing a balcony comes down to simply painting the brickwork. This is a popular solution in Western countries. Strictly, naturally and without unnecessary worries. For such work, the main thing is to do the preparatory work correctly. Everything can be divided into the following stages:

  1. To begin with, remove all dirt and excess mortar from the walls of the balcony. Use a spatula and a metal brush.
  2. Putty the seams between the bricks.
  3. If a fungus or mold has formed on the bricks, they will be removed with special means.
  4. Prime the walls with an antibacterial acrylic emulsion.

After that, you can start painting the walls. Suitable paint- water emulsion for external works. The use of oil-based formulations is not recommended. The thing is that the tree has the ability to breathe, creating a beneficial microclimate on the balcony or loggia. Oil paint will create a crust, which will cause this property to disappear. The material will gradually break down. That's why the best option- water emulsion. It is suitable for both internal use as well as for outdoor.

This type of paint is available exclusively in white. Therefore, if you want to give it a different color, use special dyes - colors. They will give water-based paint desired color. You can buy them in the same hardware store where paints are sold. The pigment must be added to the paint, gradually stirring. After that, you can carry out painting work with the same brush, roller or spray gun.

lining coloring

Clapboard is wooden planks that look beautiful anyway. Wood is environmentally friendly and beautiful material, which will only enrich your balcony or loggia. In fact, painting such a surface is not a very good idea. But, the structure of the lining on the balcony can be favorably emphasized and made even more expressive. What is this about? About painting with stain and opening with varnish. The paint itself will not hide the structure of the wood, but will only improve it by creating a certain shade. It remains to choose the tone that you like and paint the surface.

Note! Before painting, it is better to treat the tree with antiseptic agents.

Then, after drying, all this beauty must be varnished, protecting the surface, and giving it charm and shine. A loggia or balcony finished in this way will delight you and your guests. The room can be converted into an office, living room or rest room.

Drywall painting

Drywall is perhaps the most common option for finishing a balcony room. It is easy to work with him, and the result is Smooth surface, ready for any further cladding. So, after you have completed the plasterboard lining of the balcony, you need to complete a series preparatory work before painting.

You can not be limited to the banal painting of the walls of the balcony. Use stencils or structural rollers. So you can diversify the room, making it original. And if you are completely confident in your drawing abilities, you can show them on the walls of the balcony.

Requirements for paint on the balcony

Since the balcony is a special room, the paint for the balcony must also meet certain requirements. What are they?

  1. The balcony is pretty big windows so a lot of light gets in. The paint must have high UV resistance, not fade or crack.
  2. You can use the balcony as a living room. It is important that the material is not toxic, does not emit harmful substances and was odorless. Environmental friendliness comes first.
  3. In order to not have to repaint the walls several times, it is better to choose a paint with high wear resistance and durability.
  4. Moisture resistance is an important factor. For care, you need to wash the surface. Use paint that doesn't wash out.
  5. Pay attention to the price. Don't buy expensive items if you can't afford them. Focus on best options, and use expensive paint to decorate interior rooms.

Balcony painting only looks like a simple process, because everyone sees exactly the moment of painting work. However, before the application itself, a multifaceted work takes place - the preparation and selection of materials. After all, it is necessary to take into account whether work is being done indoors or outdoors, how the walls are sheathed or finished, and based on all the answers to these questions, the paint for the walls on the balcony is selected.

And now about everything in order.

All about coloring in the right light

Let us immediately determine that, first of all, it is necessary to distinguish between coloring external walls and internal.

It is possible to conditionally determine the most simple requirements to materials:

  • For it is important that the dye is safe, provides a comfortable stay on the loggia, and hides some surface defects.
  • For external works the need for weather resistance can be added to the requirements.

If the balcony remains open for the winter, then it is necessary to purchase a strictly special dye, in other words, it should be facade paint.

Here you need to pay attention to its parameters:

  • Such a dye is frost-resistant and after the winter it will not peel off and will not become covered with cracks.
  • LKM is better to buy in a specialized store to be sure of the quality.
  • Before buying, it is better to open the jar and determine the consistency of the paint. It should be liquid and not contain lumps.

Dye types

When buying coatings, you can always easily determine what type of surface they are intended for.

Today, the following paints are most popular:

  • Acrylic. The most common option. Such a dye dries quickly and is represented by a wide palette of colors.
  • Oily. This type has its obvious disadvantages. Oil paint is not able to "breathe", so it quickly comes to destruction.

  • Various varnishes. This option is not bad if the balcony is finished, for example, with clapboard.

In general, it is worth choosing a dye that will either fit strictly under a certain type of surface, or will be universal.

However, it can be clarified that:

  • paint is suitable for concrete and brick;
  • for plastic and metal it is better to use varnishes.

Important!
Some experts suggest for staining glazed loggia choose not even paint, but acrylic scuba.

Color selection

It is important to deal with colors correctly, and it is not so much about the aesthetic side of the issue as about functionality.

The instruction suggests considering issues related to the location of the balcony:

  • If the balcony faces north side, preference should be given light colors and warm colors. It is this choice that will reflect the light, making the space brighter and warmer.
  • But on the sunny side, preference should not be given to bright and saturated colors, they will quickly heat up, bringing the space into a state of stuffiness and heat. Cool colors and shades are perfect here.

Preparation and application

Proper surface preparation for paint application is always of great importance.

Depends on:

  • how well the paint will lie;
  • how long will it be in operation;
  • how bright and saturated the color will be.

Each type of surface has its own characteristics that must be taken into account, and we will talk about this by considering how various types of surfaces are prepared and painted with our own hands.

Brick and concrete

This type of surface is prepared as follows:

  • The old paint is being removed from the walls. This can be done with a metal brush, grinder, coarse sandpaper.
  • If moss is found on the wall, then this area must be treated with an alkali solution.

  • Potholes, cracks, defects are sealed with a dry mix or cement mortar.
  • Then by impregnation.

After the primer layer has dried, you can start painting. For such walls are great. The primer creates adequate adhesion and the paint can be safely applied with a roller.

Plastic and metal

Metal panels can be susceptible to corrosion, so before painting it will be necessary:

  • Thoroughly clean the surface of rust.
  • Completely remove dust, dirt, stains.
  • After the surface is varnished or a special primer.

As soon as the impregnation dries, you can apply paint. For metal, an appropriate odorless dye is selected, which is convenient to spray with a spray gun. If this is not possible, then a simple roller is used, and hard-to-reach areas of the panel are painted with a brush.

As for plastic, the same procedure is carried out here as with metal, with the exception of grinding. In addition, a solvent to remove dust and dirt or alcohol is used. The main thing that chemical composition did not corrode the plastic.

Lining

If the decoration on the balcony is represented by clapboard, then to standard procedures wood protection needs to be added.

Important!
If the lining wood has already darkened in some places, then you can use a special bleach that will return the surface to its original color.

It is recommended to treat the lining before painting with special impregnations, which increase the resistance of wood to the formation of fungus and mold. The price of preparation from this increases slightly, but the functionality rises and performance linings are improved many times.

How to paint, general points

I must say that all paint for balcony walls can be used in the same way, regardless of the type of surface.

Of course, there are certain standard rules, like so:

  • Application is made from top to bottom, this helps to avoid streaks.
  • The next layer is applied after the previous one has dried.
  • Working with a roller with several layers involves applying by the method of perpendicular staining.

  • Work with an airbrush is carried out at a distance of 15-25 cm from the wall surface.

Conclusion

If the surface preparation is carried out correctly, then the painting process doesn't seem complicated at all. And the video in this article will clearly demonstrate how all the work goes step by step.

Hide

Painting a balcony is tricky business. How to make it with the greatest efficiency? Read our tips, and the brush is in your hands! And even better - an airbrush (paint sprayer).

It is necessary to distinguish between painting the balcony outside and inside. They have different requirements. Painting outside must be resistant to temperature extremes, moisture, and other weather influences.

The difference between exterior and interior painting of a balcony

Applying paint with a roller

Interior painting should, first of all, ensure the comfort of staying in the painted room and mask the flaws in the finishing work.

As a rule, on outer cladding balconies now go either, either. These materials have already been finished in the manufacturing process.

But in some cases they need additional staining. For example, in case of damage polymer coating profiled sheet.

Choice of paint and primer

depends on the material you are going to paint

Profiled sheet painting

Applying paint to corrugated board

In this case, it is better to remove the panels and paint indoors.

Before painting the profiled sheet, it is necessary to carry out elementary preliminary preparation. Clean the rust with a sandpaper, remove oil stains with a solvent, putty scratches and apply a primer (a primer is a layer of a special coating: drying oil, alkyd or epoxy resins, which improves the adhesion of the painted material and paint).

For painting metal, varnishes are best suited: alkyd, acrylic, epoxy, polyurethane. The coating is best applied with a sprayer.

PVC panel painting

Coloring of PVC panels

For coloring plastic panels use special formulations. For example, acrylic paints Galamix series. They are durable, do not get dirty, do not degrade under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.

Like any material pvc boards to prepare for painting. But, as a rule, it is enough just to degrease with alcohol.

It must be remembered that painting usually makes PVC panels darker than their original color. It doesn't work for them: dark color better "absorbs" the sun's rays, the plastic under it overheats, which leads to a reduction in its service life.

Chipboard painting

How to paint a chipboard floor

But perhaps you inherited a balcony framed chipboard boards Khrushchev era? Or are you the owner of a loggia fenced brickwork Or a concrete parapet? It is unlikely that we will report about painting particle boards something new.

The process is known: cleaning, including from old paint, degreasing, priming, repairing flaws with putty. The so-called "bumper" primer is perfect - with which motorists prime the bumpers of their cars.

Paint is best acrylic or oil. Apply with a sprayer, brush or roller. At least two layers.

Painting brickwork

How to paint a brick

The painting of brick walls, parapets requires more thorough preparation: dirt, mortar influxes are removed with a spatula and a metal brush, the seams between the bricks are puttied. If mold has started anywhere on the masonry, then this area must be treated with an alkaline solution.

As a primer, it is worth using an antibacterial acrylic emulsion.

The paint should be water-based for outdoor use. Oil paints are not recommended. They create a dense crust through which the brick stops “breathing”, which leads to its gradual destruction, an increase in moisture and vapor permeability.

Water-based paints are produced only white color. To give them any other color you need, they need to be tinted. Colors - special additives to give the emulsion a particular color. They are sold in the store, you can choose the shade you need according to the tint card or ask the seller to choose for you.

Color is added to liquid paint and mix thoroughly: for this purpose, say, an electric drill with a paddle nozzle is perfect. But you can just do it with your hands: water-based paints are absolutely non-toxic.

Concrete painting

Fundamentally, the painting of a concrete parapet is not much different, but in this case it is better to use paints on a plastic or silicate basis.

Concrete floor painting

And, most importantly, we must remember that the exterior painting of balconies is usually a collegial matter. Supervisory and architectural authorities do not like it when balconies apartment building painted with "spots", in different colors.

Therefore, the decision on the choice of facing material and on the type of subsequent painting, as a rule, is made by a meeting of residents, and personal desires to distinguish themselves in any way should be restrained.

This is where your imagination can unfold, so this is when painting the balcony from the inside. Here the choice depends primarily on whether your balcony (loggia) is combined with the room or not.

If combined, then the principle is not simple, but understandable: all “finishing” work should be aimed at ensuring that the balcony combined with the room is in maximum harmony with its interior. If the balcony is not combined with the room, then the limits of your imagination will be limited by the functional features of those materials that you have already used to sheath the balcony or loggia from the inside.

Painting the plywood

Painting the plywood

Most often, surfaces sheathed with plywood are painted on a balcony or loggia. In fact, this is a necessary measure: the material looks painfully unpresentable. However, the technology of its painting is not as simple as it might seem.

Let's turn to such a well-known expert in interior painting of balconies as. After parting with the role of the son of Lieutenant Schmidt, he long years earned on the fertile ground of painting and even achieved the high title of "Putter-painter of the balcony profile of the 1st category" at the exhibition of achievements National economy in 1967:

Alexander Balaganov in his mature years

First of all, you need to decide whether you will keep the natural pattern of plywood or not, - Alexander Mikhailovich immediately summarizes. - In the first case, you will need a special varnish or paint that does not hide the structure of the tree.

In the second - you can use any paint, best water-based. But a primer is applied first with antiseptic properties, and the entire surface is polished with a fine-grained abrasive sandpaper.

- What is this antiseptic primer?

Usually these are acrylic-based water-emulsion compositions. For example, Nortex-soil. Moreover, it is better to paint and prime the plywood on the balcony on both sides - not only the front, but also the back. And not just one layer. This will contribute to the safety of the material in case of high humidity.

The usual tool for this is a brush, roller, but I prefer to use a sprayer: it's faster and the color is evener.

- It is no coincidence that Mikhail Samuelevich advised you so insistently: “Dust, Shura, dust!”

It was business. But listen to me carefully!

Applicant No. 2 for painting from facing balcony materials -. If only because the sheathing from it looks rather monotonous, like a corridor in a district hospital. And the joints between the sheets are clearly visible.

Drywall painting

Applying paint to drywall

The difficulty is that drywall is very sensitive to moisture. Accordingly, it is necessary to select paint materials. So, for putty, polymer mixtures are best suited. Good too cement putties, but gypsum is not suitable in this case.

Carefully putty the joints of drywall sheets, the heads of the fixing screws. This is especially important due to the fact that in these places the gypsum “filling” of the sheet can come out, including in the form of dust. Do not paint over dusty surfaces.

Personally, today I use the UNIFLOT composition made in Germany for puttying joints. It reliably protects all bare plaster surfaces. But since it shrinks a lot, after it dries, I go through the seams again with a more elastic putty VETONIT - LR + (in the Russian Federation it is often called “concrete”), and then once again I wipe all the seams on top with fine-grained abrasive paper.

If you see that the top sheet of cardboard has lagged behind the inner gypsum layer, then completely cut it off. sharp knife cardboard in a defective place, wipe with abrasive paper and putty this area.

When puttying the seams, try to ensure that there are no “stains” and other “snot” left on the view surface: it will be very difficult to remove them with a sandpaper and even a rasp, and any more powerful tool like a “grinder” with an abrasive wheel will easily cripple the drywall sheet itself .

For a primer, do not take alkyd mixtures: drywall will swell under them, outer sheet cardboard - flake off. It is better to use water-soluble types of primer.

How to stick a sickle

Another option is to seal the drywall sheathing completely with fiberglass canvas. It is also called "spider web".

As a rule, a canvas with a thickness of 0.3 mm is enough, but if you have a rough surface, cracks, then you need to take a canvas with a thickness of 0.5 mm. The spider web sticker will not only mask existing defects, but also hide future ones: for example, cracks that occur when a house shrinks.

But first you must not forget to prime the skin. The Oscar primer is best suited for fiberglass.

Fiberglass is glued in the same way as wallpaper, but the glue is applied not to the canvas, but to the wall. I use special glue"Wellton", but in its absence, ordinary PVA can also be used. Glue fiberglass canvases can be both "butt" and "overlap". This may be necessary if, for example, the edges of the cloth are damaged. In the latter case, do not press the 3-4 cm wide strips too tightly along the edges of the sheets to be glued.

After the main part of the panel is glued, run along and in the middle of these unglued strips with a sharp knife and separate the “overlapping” sections from the base. You will get a butt joint, along which you should walk well with a spatula so that it aligns and sticks to the base.

This is what fiberglass looks like

The gaps between the fiberglass sheets should also be puttied, after which it is already possible to apply paint.

For painting, it is best to choose water-based compositions. They come in trade exclusively in white, but by adding color you can give your coating any color.

Do not forget that water-based coatings lighten somewhat when dried. In addition, the paint can be either matte or glossy. The differences between them are fundamental: matte hides the defects of the painted surface, glossy, on the contrary, reveals. But if the soul lies in glamor, you will have to suffer, level the slightest villi and hairs on the skin!

Apply paint with a roller, in two or three layers. Moreover, the first layer - horizontal movements of the roller, the second - vertical. If you apply the third layer, then again with horizontal movements of the roller. It is not necessary to wait until each layer of paint is completely dry: the water-based emulsion can also be applied wet.

You can paint drywall with oil paint and enamels. But they are rarely used and only after a very thorough primer. - And when painting plywood, you can use the "spider line"? - Absolutely right! It should be used wherever possible. It only improves the quality of coverage!

Painting lining

lining coloring

The next balcony candidate for painting is this. True, the lining itself has a pleasant-looking texture, and there seems to be no reason to paint it. But applying an antiseptic primer and varnishing is practically necessary condition. Especially if you used lining of lower grades.

In this case, the addition of tinting additives to the varnish will allow you to ennoble the appearance of the wood. For example, to create the impression that you sheathed your balcony with dark bog oak. Or "bleached" wood.

Managers in building supermarkets will be happy to help you choose the right additive (“color”) for this purpose, and tell you how to prepare the mixture.

-We talked in sufficient detail on our website about finishing the balcony from the inside with clapboard. Nevertheless, we also ask you: what varnishes do you recommend for painting the lining on the balcony?

I use Tikkurila Panneli Assa, Teknos Natura, Commander Tobago scuba diving scuba gears. But they are not suitable for flooring if you made it from lining. In this case, it is necessary to use more durable alkyd varnishes: "Teknos Helo" and "Tikkurila Unica Super" This is the difference between painting the floor and walls on the balcony.

- And the ceiling?

For the ceiling, you can use the same varnishes as for the walls. But if you made the outer skin of the balcony out of lining, then it is better to use Teknos Futura 40, Teknos Woodex Aqua Solid, Tikkurila Vinha, Tikkurila PikaTeho. Or pearl paint-azure "Tikkurila Valtti Arctic".

By the way, it is better to treat the railings with Tikkurila Valtti Non-Slip anti-slip oil. I will give the same advice if you want to paint completely wooden balcony- you know, there are such at old houses, cottages ...

- Alexander, we are not on the course foreign languages! Tell me better, what kind of paint should be painted on a completely crappy, knotty lining so that nothing defective would be visible?

Take any oil. Putty all the cracks, hammer the fallen knots with corks. Clean the rot, mold with a knife and sandpaper. Remove the wood "lint" with an abrasive sandpaper. Prime with an antiseptic compound. Apply paint in three to four coats with a brush, do not be stingy.

Just do not take very bright or dark paint. And then quickly fade and lose attractiveness.

Oh, by the way, I almost forgot: paint different types(acrylic, oil, water-based) are poorly combined with each other. If, for example, you decide to apply water-based paint on the lining, which was previously covered with oil, then clean off old paint to the tree - otherwise the new one will not fall!

-Is painting eurolining different from painting lining?

Actually, we were talking about coloring eurolining. Domestic lining has high humidity, it must be dried. Say, wait for the summer season, or even two seasons, and only then paint! But, of course, for the drying period, it must be impregnated with an antiseptic composition. The same "Tikkurila".

Painting facade walls adjacent to the balcony

- When painting the balcony, there is another nuance. Usually adjacent to it facade wall houses - brick or panel - do not get off with anything during the sheathing. And I would like to paint it so that it looks harmonious with the rest of the balcony ...

Painting the walls adjacent to the balcony

The fundamental difference from painting exterior brick or concrete walls lies in one. Someone can see the exterior painting even from a distance. You see the inside and point-blank. You live with her.

At the same time, the paint will not hide any defect. Rather, it will reveal. Therefore, the preparation of the internal balcony wall for painting requires special care.

Carefully putty all the seams, clean off with a spatula or an abrasive wheel all traces, splashes of the solution from the specific surfaces. Apply primer. And then glue on the same fiberglass canvas that I recommended to use when painting drywall.

By the way, you can pre-plaster a brick wall. But not necessarily: the "web" already provides good quality work.

Selection of colors for the balcony

General view of the painted balcony

Choose water-based or acrylic paint. By color - depending on the artistic intent. I just want to note that, as a rule, a balcony, especially if it faces north or is shaded big tree, a neighboring building, they try to paint in light colors: white, blue, pale green, steel. Still, this is the place where a person goes to get that portion of "white light", without which life is not life.

If your balcony or loggia faces south, has sufficient lighting, then lovers rich colors they can also use more “heavy” colors: ocher, orange, scarlet, dark blue, the one that in the West is called “the color of Krupp metal”. With these paints you can cover the facade of the house.

And for the rest of the balcony, you should still use lighter colors. The fact is that panels, especially plastic ones, do not like overheating, and dark tones lead to heating of the material.

- Alexander! You didn't say anything about painting. panel slabs, and many readers live in panel buildings ...

The technology is basically the same. But, as a rule, the panel requires more thorough stripping, especially in those places where there are traces of mold, fungus. Wipe them down with an alkaline solution. If not laziness, wash the entire part of the wall that will be painted.

Apply primer. Usually used "Betonkontakt". Putty dents, pits with ST 225 (this is plaster on cement base) or CT 127 (the same, but polymer-based).

You can plaster the entire surface. Cut off the protruding irregularities with a grinder with an emery wheel, prime the "cuts". In principle, it is already possible to paint, but, as usual, I advise you to stick a cobweb on the wall. Get the perfect (as far as possible in life) surface.

- Many complain that the paints dry for a long time, they smell terribly. How can you get rid of these side effects?

Odorless balcony paint

Strong-smelling and long-drying paints are yesterday, - Alexander answers. - These are oil paints, which are almost never used in construction today. In addition, if your balcony is not glazed, then the smell will be well weathered.

And if it is glazed, then it will take 24 hours, while the paint dries, to close it and not go out on it. And then carefully ventilate for the same amount of time.

That's why painting oil paints and should only be carried out during warm and dry seasons.

But now water-based paints are widely available. They dry in just an hour and a half.

If you can’t stand the smell at all, then use acrylic paints. They don't smell.

Painting of some modern materials used for finishing the balcony

It's a pity, but painting modern species coatings - aluminum panels, Mr. Balaganov could not tell us in view of his advanced years and lack of relevant production experience.

Painting MDF panels

Painting MDF panels

We would like to add that in many cases MDF boards For example, it will be cheaper to replace than to paint. But, for those who are keen to do painting work, we will inform you that there are two ways to paint MDF panels: “wet” and “dry”.

"Wet", in general, is carried out according to standard scheme: surface cleaning, grinding with abrasive paper.

Since the degreasing compounds (solvents) commonly used in construction are too aggressive for MDF, it is better to wipe (wash) the sheet with the most common dishwashing compound.

The primer must be chosen acrylic, applied with a pneumatic sprayer at good pressure - 3 atm. Allow to dry at temperatures above 30 degrees for 4-5 hours.

For painting, experts recommend using paintwork Italian production "Milesi spa". Apply - also with a spray. Dry for 14 hours at a temperature of up to 50 degrees and humidity not higher than 80%. Similarly, a second layer is applied, if necessary - a third.

After painting, two layers are applied to the panel polyurethane varnish. If the varnish is “with a glossy effect”, then it should then also be polished using special pastes.

"Dry" The method of painting MDF panels is that microparticles of paint are applied to the plates using a special spray gun, and then these microparticles are sintered at a high temperature.

Taking into account the fact that when performing both the first and second methods of painting, the panels have to be dismantled (drying, and even more so sintering, has to be carried out in a special chamber - it is unlikely that you will be able to heat the air on your balcony to 50 degrees for 28 hours), then really , it will be easier to buy and install new MDF boards in the color you need.

Painting aluminum panels

Painting aluminum panels is obviously easier than painting any other material.

Painting of aluminum panels

The surface is degreased with any solvent, cleaned of dirt, and corroded areas are removed. The composition "Phosphosoil" is used as a primer, but if the panel is not affected by corrosion, you can immediately start painting.

Coloring is also currently being done with an overlay (sticker) “cobwebs. But in the event that decorative, figured plastering is used, then the color of the material is obtained by adding color at the stage of preparing the mixture.

Prices for painting a balcony

From the table below, you can find out how much it will cost you to paint a balcony with the hands of hired specialists. We must proceed from the fact that the cost of their services will greatly depend on the quality of the surface being painted, on the paint that you offer them to use, and on other factors.

Below are the average prices for the Moscow region, including tax payments. Work "by agreement" will cost 40 percent cheaper.

Painting a balcony - how to quickly and efficiently finish any surface

What nuances need to be dealt with before starting work

Balconies and loggias are designs that can be very different from each other, even if they are located side by side, their interior decoration can be completely different. Accordingly, the technology of work is also changing.

Therefore, before starting any action, you need to determine several important aspects:

Construction type If you have an open balcony or loggia, then you will have to use only weatherproof paints. If the structure is insulated, then the work will not differ from those that are carried out in the apartment.
Purpose of repair In order to simply refresh the appearance of surfaces, it is necessary to minimally prepare them and paint them. But if you want to get a more attractive result, you may need additional work: repairing irregularities, plastering surfaces, etc.
Base types On the balcony you can find a variety of types of materials: from brick and concrete to wood, plastic, drywall and metal. Naturally, each of the options is colored in its own way, and below I will go into detail about this aspect.
Types of work carried out There are two main options - external and interior work and they are very different from each other. When painting exterior surfaces, it is important to observe safety precautions, and also remember that the color of the facade must be the same on all balconies. Inside, everything is simpler, because you can choose any color scheme the main thing is that you like it
Surface condition This factor does not directly affect the painting work, but it determines the preparatory measures. If you want to make it the best it can be, full plastering or finishing may be necessary. facing material, as well as pouring the screed or self-levelling. These operations are carried out in advance so that the compositions are completely dry.

Work is best done in warm weather without precipitation, optimum temperature environment - from 15 to 25 degrees. If your balcony is insulated, then you can work inside almost at any time of the year.

Types of bases and features of their staining

Now we will deal with different options materials that are used in the construction and decoration of balconies, and consider how to paint them correctly and what compositions are best used. I will talk about those options, the reliability and quality of which I am sure, and which are not difficult to use.

Metal constructions

On the open balconies metal railings are most often installed, also often for exterior finish a profiled sheet is used, which over time may lose its attractiveness and require staining. First, let's figure out what kind of paint to use:

  • In order not to waste a lot of time on careful preparation surfaces and not apply a primer, the easiest way is to use special “3 in 1” compositions, which include primer, anti-corrosion additives and the paint itself;
  • The composition dries quickly, fits well and has a wide range of colors, which will allow you to get the most suitable option for any balcony;
  • Consumption averages 200-300 grams per square meter. As for the cost, high-quality paint can be bought at a price of 300 rubles per 0.9 kg can. If you have railings, then for the convenience of coloring them, you can use the composition in an aerosol package.

Now let's look at the workflow:

  • Surfaces must first be cleaned, and then inspected for corrosion and areas where the old coating does not hold well;
  • Then you need to remove the old paint where it does not hold well, if you wish, you can remove the entire layer, but this will take a lot of time and require a lot of effort. All foci of corrosion must be cleaned as thoroughly as possible, this is perhaps the most important aspect all preparation, because even a special composition will not save you from rust if you do not remove all layers;
  • If the profiled sheet is painted, then it also needs to be cleaned, if there is such an opportunity, then it is better to remove the elements, but most often you have to work right on the spot. Even if there is no rust on the surface, it must be treated with fine sandpaper to new paint lay better on the surface;
  • Before painting a railing or profiled sheet, be sure to degrease the surface. Wipe it with thinner or gasoline, this will get rid of small particles grease, as well as dust, which inevitably settles on the surface. This operation must be carried out immediately before staining;
  • Often the question arises - how to paint the outside of all surfaces? There can be two options: the first one involves working from the inside, you need to insure yourself with a rope and, bending over the parapet, paint the surface from the bottom up, the second method involves the use of scaffolding, it is safer, but you can not always use it in high-rise buildings;
  • The composition is applied either with a brush or roller, it all depends on the type of surface. Coloring is best done in two layers, the composition must be mixed before use, if necessary, you can add a little solvent (all information is written on the package).

Painting of brick, concrete and plastered surfaces

This type of base is very common, which is not surprising, because multi-story houses built from slabs and bricks. Ordinary grey colour- not the best background for cozy balcony, but even if the surfaces were painted, they fade over time, and the composition begins to crack, so it needs to be updated periodically.

As for the paint, I advise you to use facade acrylate compositions, they fit perfectly on concrete, plaster, and brick and have high resistance to moisture and ultraviolet radiation. An additional plus of such compositions is that they are available in white, and you can give them any shade with the help of special pigments.

The price of the compositions is about 800 rubles for a package of 4.5 liters, about the same amount is needed for an average balcony when painting in two layers.

  • Concrete walls must be cleaned of dust and debris and carefully inspected for cracks, if any, then they must be repaired with cement mortar. I also recommend checking the plane with a level or even rail, it is often uneven, in this case it is advisable to carry out plaster work, as the paint will highlight all the flaws;
  • Plastered surfaces are prepared as follows: first, the surface is carefully inspected, if there are cracks on it, then all such areas must be tapped. If the sound is booming, then the finish has peeled off and needs to be removed. If everything is held firmly, then you can simply repair the cracks with a plaster mortar.

If during the preparation of the bases you notice pockets of fungus or mold, then you need to eliminate them. To do this, black plaque is carefully removed (if it is on plaster, then it is better to beat it off and apply new composition), and then treatment is carried out with special solutions that will destroy the spores of the fungus and protect the surface from its recurrence.

Now let's figure out how to paint these surfaces with your own hands. The work is quite simple, it is important to follow all the recommendations:

  • First of all, with the help of a broom, you need to clean the surface of dust; a vacuum cleaner can also be used for this purpose;
  • The surface is covered with a firming primer composition, it is desirable that antifungal additives be present in it. The composition is applied in one layer, try to ensure that the entire surface is completely covered. Too much primer should also not be applied, do not leave smudges on the surface;
  • You must decide in advance what color to paint the balcony, and purchase either ready composition, or a white base paint and a special pigment, with which you yourself will give it the desired shade. When choosing a particular option, you must take into account the color of the rest of the furnishings and the furniture used;

If you are preparing a certain shade yourself, but you need to mix the pigment in all the paint that will be used at once. It is almost impossible to prepare the same shade twice by hand.

  • Do-it-yourself painting inside is done either with a roller, if the surfaces are smooth, or with a brush, if you have Brick wall, since with its help you can apply the composition to all seams. If you have an airbrush, then this simplifies the process even more, but most often there is no such equipment, because it is mainly used by professionals. When painting, apply the composition evenly, avoiding smudges;

There is another option on how to decorate a balcony: you can paint the brick in different colors, then you will get a very cheerful motley one. The seams in this case are made dark or light to emphasize each element even more. As for smooth walls, you can make lines or patterns on them with masking tape and also paint the surface in different colors.

Separately, you need to consider how to paint the concrete floor, because this surface is exposed to increased loads. In this case, I advise using polyurethane-based compounds, as they have excellent abrasion resistance and retain an attractive appearance for a very long time.

Preparing the floor is no different from preparing other surfaces, the main thing to remember is that you need to paint from the farthest corner towards the exit so that you can exit the balcony without stepping on the painted floor.

Painting wood, plywood, chipboard and fiberboard

These materials are often used in interior decoration insulated loggias, because with their help you can quickly transform the space and make it cozy. First of all, you need to figure out which paint is better to paint the balcony inside, if it is finished with wood-based materials, everything is simple here: use acrylic-based compositions, they can be both matte and glossy and are inexpensive - a liter will cost from 200 rubles.

As for the workflow, it consists of the following steps:

  • First of all, it is necessary to clean the surface of dirt, all stains must be removed. If there are elements that are not securely held, then they must be fixed, it is important that the surface is strong and clean;
  • Puttying is done using acrylic composition, which has good strength and ductility, which simplifies work. The process is simple: you need to prepare the required amount of the composition and fill in all the bumps and damage with it. If, after drying, the putty sagged a little (this is the norm), then you need to apply another layer;
  • Next, you need to go over the surface with fine-grained sandpaper, if you have smooth materials, then this step can be skipped;
  • The primer allows you to protect the surface from moisture and strengthen it. For added reliability, I advise using acrylic-based formulations with the addition of antiseptic components. The work is done as follows: one layer is applied, after it dries, the surface is checked for raised pile, if there are such areas, then they need to be cleaned, and then another layer is applied;
  • After the primer has dried, staining is carried out; for this, the composition is prepared as recommended on the package and applied to the surface. After the first layer has dried, a second layer must be applied to ensure a more even color and better protect the material from adverse effects.

You also need to figure out which paint is best for wood or chipboard floors, here the usual acrylic version will not work. Purchase special compounds for these purposes, there is always an indication on the bank that they are intended for the floor and have increased wear resistance.

Drywall painting

This material is also often used in the finishing of insulated structures. Naturally, it is better to use a moisture-resistant option, since temperature and humidity differences on the balcony are still greater than in living rooms, and the usual one may begin to swell.

There will be no question of how to paint the balcony inside - in any store there is just a huge selection, but I advise you to buy not the best cheap option and choose a better solution. Personally, in such cases, I use latex-based compounds, they are resistant to moisture, and the surface can be wiped with a damp cloth, which allows you to maintain perfect cleanliness on the balcony. A liter of good paint costs about 190 rubles.

As for the preparation of surfaces, it makes no sense to describe the process of puttying and leveling, there are a lot of materials on this topic and there is no point in considering them here. I'll talk about the option when you already have finished wall, which was previously painted, but the coating has already burned out or has begun to crack and move away.

The workflow consists of several steps:

  • First of all, it is necessary to clean it of dust and dirt and inspect for damage and cracks. If there is damaged areas, then they need to be puttied, often during operation, scratches and indentations appear on the surface from impacts with various objects;
  • Priming is a mandatory part of the workflow, especially if you will be painting the wall in a different color.. The primer will allow you to close the old layer and improve the adhesion of the paint. Without priming, you may need to paint the wall 3-4 times until it becomes solid, you can handle the primer in two layers;

If you want to paint light paint on a wall that used to be dark, then I suggest adding about a quarter of white paint to the primer to make the surface much lighter.

  • Now let's figure out how to paint a balcony, for this it is best to use a roller, since with its help the composition will be distributed as evenly as possible over the entire surface. Narrow brushes can be used for corners and junctions.

I want to talk about how to carry out the work of staining in two or more colors. To do this, you must first apply base layer the desired shade, then use masking tape to make stripes or any other shapes. Next, the necessary areas are painted, and then the painting is removed, and you get the desired result.

Conclusion

We figured out how to paint the inside and outside of the balcony, and also considered how to properly organize the workflow. In fact, there is nothing complicated in painting a balcony, watch the video in this article, it clearly shows some important points workflow to help you understand the topic even better.
