Do-it-yourself installation of platbands. How to fix platbands on interior doors video. Video - Do-it-yourself installation of plastic platbands

The main function of door platbands is to mask the gaps between the door frame and the opening. Their choice depends on the texture, width and color. door leaf. In the production process of platbands, wood, steel, aluminum, plastic, MDF, fiberboard and PVC are used. If desired, you can buy laminated trim, lined with plastic and covered with veneer. They are mounted after the door leaf is installed. Simple expert advice will allow you to understand how to install platbands on interior doors.

What are cashiers

There is a wide range of platbands on the building materials market. different forms. When buying a door, it is important to check whether there are trims in the kit or not.

Usually the width of the casing is about 7 cm, height and thickness - 210 cm and 1 cm, respectively.

In the process of installing an interior door with one leaf, you will need to purchase 5 strips, while for a double-leaf door you will need 6. Two and a half strips will be enough to frame the opening on one side.

Telescopic architraves

In appearance, they look like ordinary platbands. The difference is the protrusion, which is necessary for the connections. This option can be used if the door thickness is narrower than the wall thickness. A special protrusion is attached to the longitudinal grooves of the end of the door frame.

If you correctly install the platbands, the fasteners will be almost invisible. The design serves a long period. Otherwise, if the calculation is made incorrectly, a gap remains. As a result, the design looks ugly.

decorative design

Recently appeared on the market of building materials platbands for decorative design doors are called capitals.

The material for the platbands is solid wood or MDF. They are distinguished by a variety of shapes and figured ruffles.

After installing such platbands, the door will acquire a luxurious finished look.

Structure fastening methods

Often for the installation of door platbands are used:

  • liquid Nails;
  • mounts called "beaks";
  • finishing nails;
  • self-tapping screws.

With finishing nails

This method is considered the most popular, as it has a number of advantages, among which are simple installation and dismantling if necessary. Even an inexperienced person can fix the structure using simple tips.

For work, you will need copper-plated nails with a narrow hat. The nail should enter the door frame by 2 cm. On average, the length of the nail reaches 4 cm.

To do the job accurately, you can put points on the platbands along which the fastening will be carried out. The points are placed at a uniform distance from each other. The optimal distance is 50 cm.

liquid nails

Liquid nails are sold in tubes or tubes.

Mounting is easy and simple.

  • The tool is applied to the casing and pressed for a few seconds. After the time has elapsed, the bar can be released.
  • The advantages of the material include the fact that fastening is not only easy, but also leaves no marks on front side planks.
  • The disadvantage is the unreliability of fastening.

Fastening with self-tapping screws

This method is increasingly used due to its reliability. Even an inexperienced person can do the job by following simple instructions.

  • If the platbands are made of wood, it is worth picking up self-tapping screws, the diameter of which reaches 6 mm and the length is 2 cm.
  • Work begins with markings on the bar. They are placed at a distance of 50 cm from each other. Then holes are drilled. This is necessary in order to prevent cracking of the wood during fastening.
  • To make the self-tapping screw invisible, its hat must be drowned in the bar. It is better to pre-drill the hole a little.

Fastening with "beaks"

The advantages of the method include an attractive appearance fastening, ease of installation process.

The negative side of the method is that the platbands made of MDF, in the process of removing the "beak", can delaminate.

To understand how to properly fasten the platbands, you need to read the instructions that came with the product.

How to get the job done

  1. First of all, the platbands are applied in height to the door in order to correctly measure the desired length.
  2. The plank is placed on horizontal surface, and, using a square, measure and cut off the corner.
  3. A platband with a cut corner is applied to door frame and align to the bottom line and edges. It is also necessary to note the height that would correspond to the door frame.
  4. Given the mark made, using a goniometer, mark an angle equal to 45º. The excess must be cut off and the bar set aside for a while.
  5. The same must be done with the other side. It is worth noting that the upper casing is marked last. Work with it is performed after the installation of the side strips. This sequence of work will avoid errors during the installation of platbands and the formation of cracks.
  6. Having cut the strips, you can proceed to their fasteners. To do this, you need to hammer nails into the door frame and remove their caps with wire cutters. In this case, the length of the nail for successful fastening of the casing must be at least 5 mm. The distance between the nails is 50 cm.
  7. It is possible to ensure optimal adhesion of the door frame to the platband with the help of glue, which is applied to the bar. It is important not to overdo it so that the adhesive does not squeeze out during adhesion.
  8. A platband is applied to the door frame and tapped through a bar wrapped in fabric, planting it on nails.
  9. Having nailed the platbands on the sides, they begin to mark the upper bar. The corners are marked by applying a plank over the side trim, the excess is removed. Install in the same way.

Important nuances

  • A nail or self-tapping screw can be made barely noticeable using a wax corrector.
  • When the platbands diverge at the joints, finishing nails can correct the situation.
  • Eliminate small gaps acrylic sealant. A wax corrector is also suitable if you choose a color.
  • If the platband is installed on an interior door, its height must exceed the height of the opening by 10 cm.

Considering simple rules, many people will be able to do the work with their own hands.

How to fix the trim on the door - this question often becomes relevant when carrying out repairs in the house. Doing it yourself is actually quite simple, if you know some of the nuances regarding the types of products and methods for fixing them around the perimeter of the opening.

There are several ways to fasten door frames.

The main types of platbands

Before we look at how you can attach trim to interior doors, you should familiarize yourself with their main types. The method of installation directly depends on the specific type of product.

According to the material of manufacture, they distinguish:

  • wooden;
  • from pressed paper;
  • metal.

Varieties of door platbands depending on the material of manufacture

For budget options pressed products are used. IN modern interior MDF products are the most popular type, besides, unlike other types of platbands, any mounting option is available for MDF.

In appearance and configuration, they distinguish:

  • straight;
  • rounded;
  • carved and figured;
  • typesetting.

Variations of platbands by configuration

Additionally, a capital can be installed above the upper casing. This element plays an excellent decorative role, especially when it comes to classical style and variations close to it.

With regard to mounting methods, platbands can be installed in three main methods:

  • on ordinary nails;
  • on glue "liquid nails";
  • according to the "thorn-groove" principle.

In order for the opening to look organic, it is important to observe optimal dimensions for all details. Cutting elements can be done in two ways: at a right angle or 45 degrees. In the first case, the upper bar is most often installed above the sidewalls, while it must have an edge processed. With an oblique cut, you need to bring out the ideal angle so that the fragments fit together without gaps. For cutting it is better to use a miter box.

Before proceeding directly to fastening the platbands, you should properly prepare the work surface. The entire list of works can be conditionally divided into several stages:

  1. Box installation. The platbands serve as a kind of decor for doors, as they are able to create a spectacular frame and hide minor wall defects. Consequently, their installation must be carried out at the very end after the doors are installed.
  2. Foam removal. After the box dries, you need to cut off the excess polyurethane foam to bring an even level between the wall and the loot, it is best to do this with a clerical knife.
  3. Removing irregularities. If, during the installation of the door leaf and the box, small defects appeared on the wall, for example, concrete chips, they can be repaired with plaster, this will not only facilitate installation, but also improve the strength of the opening. To ensure that no gaps remain during the installation process, the surface for attaching the platbands must be flat.
  4. Wall decoration. Before installing platbands, you must complete all Finishing work: painting, wallpapering, etc.
  5. Cleaning. Remove all dust and other debris from the surface; when using glue, you must additionally degrease the perimeter of the opening.

Use of nails

The most traditional way to install architraves is to use nails. In order to hide the attachment points as much as possible, special miniature carnations are used, their peculiarity lies in the almost complete absence of a hat.

In order to properly nail the platbands on the door, you need to set them according to the level. Since when mounting on a wall, distortions or gaps can occur that were not on a flat surface, it is recommended to leave a small excess of material when sawing.

Since nails without hats are used for platbands of interior doors, try not to damage the coating of the cladding itself. It is most convenient to work with a small hammer. You can pre-mark the connection point with an awl.

In order to cover the nails on the platbands, they mainly use a special mastic or grout to match the coating. Minor damage can be masked with paint, felt-tip pen or pencil.

Use of nails traditional way architraves fastenings

Liquid Nails

Another method of fastening platbands involves the use of special glue. The most popular option is the so-called liquid nails. This compound provides fast traction on almost any surface.

Let's consider how to properly fix the platbands without ordinary nails. To do this, you must initially determine the exact position of each element. After that, apply a large number of glue on the back side of the plank and press it against the wall. If glue comes out from under the casing, wipe it off immediately. It is advisable to apply only a few dots to prevent spreading.

You can fix the platbands either completely without nails, using glue, or by combining these two methods, this will provide greater structural strength.

Fastening platbands to liquid nails simplify the process

Telescopic models

The simplest is to attach telescopic architraves to interior doors. It is performed without nails, but can be supplemented with glue for greater strength. Mounting features are directly related to their design. The fact is that the edges of the platbands, when connected, coincide with the edge of the extension or loot. The principle of adhesion is "thorn-groove".

Telescopic platbands are mounted strictly in the groove of the box plank

In other words, one part goes inside the other. Thus, in order to install such products, it is enough just to saw off the excess and dock the parts. The protrusion of the element is inserted into a recess in the door frame. Then you need to set required distance, which is regulated by the size of the recess.

Regardless of which installation method you choose for a particular situation, care should be taken, as one awkward movement can ruin the entire structure. If there are irregularities on the wall, it is necessary to first align them so that there are no gaps, this applies to absolutely all models of platbands, regardless of the material of manufacture and configuration.

The platbands on the door are important element finished door structure for the home or bath, which performs decorative and protective functions.

Overhead strips are designed to stylishly frame the doorway, effectively hide visual defects and gaps that exist between the wall surface and the frame.

For driving nails, it is better to use a compact hammer. For grouting the location of the nails, mastic is suitable for the color of the surface.

liquid type nails

The following method of fastening is carried out using a special adhesive composition in liquid form. Glue fastening is reliable and safe. Fixing the front plate is carried out as follows: the adhesive composition is carefully applied on the reverse side of the element, which is pressed tightly against the wall surface for a couple of seconds. Excess glue is removed with a clean rag.

The installation of platbands provides for an effective combination of these two methods, which will increase the strength and wear resistance of the structure.

Telescopic way

This method is suitable for fixing telescopic type slats. Installation is carried out according to the tenon-groove principle, when one part of the element enters its other part. This allows for proper alignment decorative items without the need for cutting. Thorn finished item carefully inserted into the groove in the box.

Making the necessary measurements

Proper installation of platbands involves a preliminary calculation of the required length of the product. To perform washed down strips, first you need to measure its width. Next, measure the same distance from the top. It is recommended to leave a small margin in length equal to the width of the bar.

The standard width of the interior door trim is 7 cm, the thickness is 1.5 cm, and the height is 215 cm. For an interior single-leaf door standard size it is necessary to prepare 5 elements, and for double door– 6 elements.

Finished slats are produced in various sizes, so they differ in width, thickness and height.

  2. Fasteners.
  3. Construction roulette.
  4. Square.

All work is carried out in stages:

  1. Prepared products are prepared according to the height of the door leaf, the desired length is measured. The element is laid on the floor, measurement is carried out right angle square, cropping is performed.
  2. A bar with an angle is applied to the box, equals vertically and horizontally. The height mark is performed, which is equal to inner corner boxes.
  3. Focusing on the mark, an angle equal to 45 degrees is set. Cropping is in progress.
  4. According to a similar scheme, the bar is prepared from the opposite side.
  5. First, the side strips are trimmed, then the top element. This will prevent the occurrence of errors when installing products.
  6. After completing the preparation, you can install the straps. Small nails are driven into the door frame at a distance of up to 45 cm, so that a length of 6 mm for the plank remains on the surface.
  7. To improve the adhesion of the element to the door frame, a special adhesive is applied to the surface.
  8. The finished plank is lightly pushed onto the nail. In this case, it is very important not to damage the front of the product. To do this, a small bar wrapped in clean rags is used as a hammer.
  9. The platband is leveled and pushed onto the nail until it stops.
  10. After installing the side strips, you can proceed with the installation of the upper element, which has angles of 45 degrees.

Cashiers for interior doors are sold in large assortment, and you can purchase products in a wide variety of shapes (carved, figured, teardrop-shaped, semicircular.) It is this detail that is finishing after which the installation is complete.

Often, door manufacturers do not include platbands in the product package, and they have to be purchased additionally.

For some, this can be a serious problem, but to avoid it, just check the package. Naturally, the cost of the door model with all necessary components there will be much more bare door leaf, but you don’t have to look for suitable element at other outlets. Platbands can be installed with your own hands, installation will not be difficult.

As for the dimensions of the door finish, the following are considered standard:

  • Width - 7 cm;
  • Thickness - 1.2 cm;
  • Height 190 - 235 cm.

In order to finish the door, in which there is one leaf, you need 5 cashiers. If the door has two leaves, then 6. If you need to frame only the doorway, then it will be enough to purchase only 2 strips. What are the best options for cashing out? In this case, we are talking about the material.

You can buy platbands from the canvas:

  • natural wood;
  • aluminum;
  • Become.

They can have a decorative coating in the form of a laminated film, veneer, facing plastic, paint composition. Modern manufacturers Planks are made in various sizes, and therefore it is possible to choose them according to your preference.

What are the criteria for choosing cash on the door

It is worth installing platbands only those that are carefully selected, match the color of the door leaf, and are easy to fix. The types of canvases are described above, but what other features of the choice of cashiers are there?

If selected wooden model platbands, then it should be:

  • Well dried, so that over time it does not start to crack, rot and lose its proper appearance;
  • evenly colored;
  • No blue spots
  • Smooth without notches;
  • No knots or cracks.

Cash is a product that is not too complicated in configuration, and you can make it yourself. Before you properly mount, you should carefully prepare the finishing element. It is worth noting that the competent selection of tools and materials allows you to start everything. necessary work. First, the workpiece is cut according to the dimensions taken in advance. The calculation is done individually and you should not rely on standard parameters.

The quality of the work performed directly depends on how carefully each canvas will be processed by means of a typewriter or woodworking machine.

After the platband is made, it is polished. Namely, there should be rough grinding and manual processing. The second step is required to remove all the circular scratches that remain on the electric machine. Finished platbands must be covered with a primer and antiseptic composition.

How to make door frames

Installing the cashier is not difficult, but first you need to prepare the element. You can find an unlimited variety various architraves from many manufacturers, which may differ in price, finish, shape.

However, many people prefer to install those products that will be made by themselves.

Thus, it is possible to significantly reduce the cost of repair and finishing work and, moreover, it is much easier to mount the finish according to your preferences on your own.

It is definitely worth preparing a number of tools, without which it will be impossible to make, cut or completely cut and attach the cashier to the door:

  • Saw, preferably manual.
  • A machine that can make a right angle.
  • Thickness gauge, which is required to create the correct thickness of the casing.
  • Vertical cutter.
  • Sander.
  • Square.
  • Ruler.
  • Pencil.

There are a variety of ways to fasten platbands. For example, you can cut it to size and nail it on nails, attach it with glue, stick it on liquid nails or mastic even to a corner, put capitals on self-tapping screws. Each of the presented options has its own advantages and disadvantages, which are worth familiarizing yourself with.

Proper installation of platbands for interior doors

Nailing the trim on the finishing nails is the most popular option. It has a lot of advantages. If necessary, you can easily remove the platbands. Mounting is quick and easy. To put the finish for the openings, you will need to pick up carnations, on which there is a flat and narrow hat.

The length is chosen, depending on the thickness of the casing, but on average 4 cm is chosen.

If only nails with hats were on sale at the time of purchase, then the hats can be removed with a couple of light movements if you use a side cutter. Before doing the installation of platbands, it is worthwhile to outline the location of the fasteners. A balance must be observed, or, in other words, the arrangement is carried out evenly so that there is no distortion of the structure. Experts recommend installing them at a distance of 50 cm from each other.

Liquid nails are glue sold in tubes. It is very easy to apply and can be used for any kind of architraves. It can be plastic or wooden model. Don't need any preparatory work, because it is enough just to squeeze out the composition, and press the trim to the right place on the opening between the wall and door panels. The advantages of this installation method are quite obvious, and most importantly, liquid nails dry as quickly as possible, they are as strong as possible, and even when the composition flows out of the product, it is very easy to remove it.

Self-tapping screws are simple and old way installation. It has such advantages as:

  • Reliability;
  • Strength;
  • Ease of installation.

The downside is that with too much impact on the canvas at the time of screwing in the screws, the canvas may crack. The place for the installation of the self-tapping screw must be marked in advance so as not to move even a couple of millimeters. This can also cause a violation of the integrity of the clypeus. Best of all, experts advise pre-drilling holes to avoid the above consequences.

There is also such a method of fastening as beaks. The advantages are an excellent proper appearance, ease of installation. The disadvantage is that they are made of MDF, and it is not only undesirable to remove them after installation, but after all, after dismantling, you can notice chips and cracks on the coating.

We select telescopic trim on the door

There are telescopic architraves on a door. They differ from the usual ones by the presence of a special ledge for easy connection with extensions and the door frame. They are used when the door frame is narrower than the thickness of the wall. Due to this special protrusion, the fastening is carried out through the longitudinal grooves in the door frame. If the installation is carried out correctly, then neither fasteners nor walls will be visible in the opening between the box and the wall.

This method of installing platbands is also:

  • Reliable;
  • Lasting;
  • Durable.

When making platbands on your own, you will need to make the most careful calculations so that the door has a neat and complete look. There are a number of nuances that you should definitely take into account when installing platbands. To hide fasteners in the form of nails or self-tapping screws, you can use a wax corrector or acrylic sealant of the same color as the door leaf.

In order to avoid a gap at the junction of the platbands, each cut of the subsequent canvas must be created, relying on the previous element. If there is a curved wall in the room, then straight platbands will not work. What to do in such a situation? Finishing nails should be used to mount the edges of the trim. Such fasteners are invisible and they allow you to align the finish of the door frame.

If there are minor gaps, then acrylic sealant or, again, wax sealant will be required to mask them. To mask significant defects around the door frame, you can choose wide platbands of the order of 10-12 cm. It is best, in this case, to purchase platbands on an individual order. Since the installation of platbands is a finishing touch, the procedure is carried out only at the end of the repair of the room.

Installation is carried out flush at the ends, and visually, it seems that the installation is carried out directly to the wall. Experts recommend choosing thin carnations with a small hat.

Do-it-yourself installation of trim for interior doors (video)

A door without platbands not only looks untidy, but it spoils the whole look of the room. They allow you to hide the edges of the wallpaper, the opening between the door frame and the wall, as well as bring completeness and aesthetics to the interior design.

Door platbands are designed to mask the gap between the doorway and the door frame. They are selected according to the required texture and width, and the color is chosen exactly the same as that of the door leaf. They are made from different materials and are divided into wooden, plastic, laminated, MDF and veneered. The work of mounting them is the last step in installing the door. By the beginning of these works, all other repairs, except for installation floor plinths, should already be completed. This article will discuss how to make and how to properly install door frames.

Types of door frames

Today, the construction market is filled with platbands of various shapes: carved and figured, teardrop-shaped and semicircular.

They play the role of finishing decoration of the door. Some sellers, in order to visually reduce the price, indicate the cost of only the canvas and the box. But having started to install, out of ignorance it turns out that there are not enough platbands, and you can buy them in addition only for a fee. Therefore, even when buying a door, you must definitely check their availability in the configuration. Of course, the price of door frames is quite affordable, but another problem may arise when buying - color matching. It will not be difficult to choose the required shade of trim for a painted or laminated door, but it will be extremely difficult for a wooden or veneered door.

The standard width of the door trim is 7 cm, thickness - 1 cm, height - 210 cm. For an interior door with one leaf, 5 trim strips are required, and for a door with two shutters - 6 strips.

If you only need to frame the doorway, then two and a half planks are enough. In addition, manufacturers produce door frames of any size in width, height and thickness.

Tip: when choosing platbands for interior doors, their color should completely match the color of the door leaf. And when choosing a frame for the entrance metal door, from the inside, the shade is selected according to the color of the walls of the corridor.

Door platbands are made of MDF, plastic, natural wood, aluminum or steel. As decorative coating laminated film, veneer, facing plastic or paint composition is used.

What is a telescopic platband?

Outwardly, it looks like a regular door casing, but has a ledge for connection with extensions and a door frame. Their use is most optimal if the door frame is a couple of centimeters narrower than the thickness of the wall. Thanks to a special protrusion, it is tightly fastened in the longitudinal grooves of the end of the door frame.

At correct installation fasteners become completely invisible, which gives the whole structure a look of solidity, durability and strength. But if the distance is incorrectly calculated, the casing will not fit tightly into the box and there will be a gap. The design will immediately acquire an ugly and untidy look.

What is a capital?

The capital is a relatively recent decoration of the door. Although their main function is exclusively to decorate doors, they also belong to the category of door frames.

In most cases, they are made of solid wood or MDF. They are produced in various shapes and decorated with curly ruffles. The capital is made both standard and custom sizes. After their installation, the door takes on a rich and finished look.

How to make door frames

Nowadays, a large number of various door frames are presented on the construction market. They differ not only in material, but also in size, and in color scheme. You can also make them yourself at home, this will reduce the cost of repairs. But in order to make high-quality platbands, you will need special woodworking tools and at least a little experience working with such equipment.

Below is a list of tools that will facilitate the work on the manufacture of platbands. Some of them can be replaced with a planer, but thereby increasing labor costs.

Required tools:

  • sawmill for the manufacture of blanks;
  • planer to create a right angle;
  • thicknesser to achieve required thickness blanks;
  • a vertical milling cutter to create a pattern (not needed if the casing is simple without a pattern);
  • electric Sander and milling cutter;
  • auxiliary tools: squares, rulers, pencils.

Material selection

The board for platbands is selected only well-dried, otherwise it will lead over time. The degree of drying is determined by the sound. To do this, they tap on it with a finger, if the sound is deaf, this means that the board has not yet dried, and if it is sonorous, the material is ideal for work.

In addition to sound, when choosing a board, you should pay attention to its color.

It should be uniform, and blue spots mean that the drying technology has been violated. In the future, they can be hidden only by painting with opaque paint.

The surface of the board should not have knots. This not only worsens its appearance, but also increases the risk of fracture of the finished clypeus in this particular place.

Manufacturing

Selecting material and preparing essential tool, you can start making door trim. First, blanks are cut required dimensions, which are calculated individually for each door. It is worth noting here that the quality result directly depends on how sharply sharpened cutting knives on machines and machines.

When the platband is ready, it is polished. This is done in two stages: the first is rough grinding electric machine, the second - manual processing with fine-grained skins. At the second stage, all circular scratches left by the electric machine should be removed. The finished platband is covered with a protective compound.

How to fix door frames

In total, there are four main ways to fasten door trim: using finishing and liquid nails, on self-tapping screws or on special fasteners called "beaks".

Finishing nails

This is one of the most popular ways. It has a number of advantages: if necessary, the platbands are easy to dismantle and reinstall, and the fastening process itself is simple and reliable.

To fasten the platbands, nails with a flat, narrow head are selected. It is not difficult to calculate their length, they should enter the door frame to a depth of 1.5-2 cm. The average length of finishing nails for platbands is about 4 cm.

Tip: if you can't buy flat-head nails, you can cut them with side cutters.

To facilitate the work, points for fastening are pre-marked on the platbands. They are placed at an equal distance from each other along the entire length of the bar. The main thing here is to maintain the right balance, it is often not recommended to place them, but too rarely is also bad. Experts advise keeping a distance of 50 cm.

Liquid Nails

They are a special glue in tubes. Mounting on it is very simple, the glue is simply applied to the casing from the reverse side immediately before mounting. Then the bar is pressed tightly against the wall, held for several seconds, after which it can be released. Everything, the platband is installed.

The advantage of this method of fastening is not only in the simplicity and speed of work, but also in the fact that there are no traces of fastening on the front side of the platbands. The disadvantage is the complexity of its dismantling and not too much reliability of fastening.

Self-tapping fastening

Due to its simplicity and reliability, this method is gaining more and more popularity. For wooden architraves wood screws with a diameter of 6 mm and a length of 2-2.5 cm are used.

Places for self-tapping screws are pre-marked on the platbands. After that, small holes are drilled, which guarantees further excellent result and protect the wood from splitting when screwing the screw.

Tip: for less visibility of the self-tapping screw head, it is “recessed” into the wood, having previously drilled a small recess.

Special mounts "beaks"

Their advantages are good appearance, easy installation and operation. But there is also a significant drawback. Most architraves are made of MDF, and when removing the "beak" there is a chance that it will delaminate.

How to install door frames

To install wooden platbands you will need:

  • wood saw;
  • fasteners (finishing nails and glue)
  • goniometer;
  • roulette.

Stages of work

  • First, the platbands are applied along the height of the door, and the required length is measured. Then the bar is placed on flat surface and with the help of a square, a right angle is marked. The excess is cut off;
  • the platband with the finished corner is applied to the door frame, aligned along the edges and bottom. The height corresponding to the internal rumble of the door frame is noted;
  • then, starting from the mark made, an angle of exactly 45 degrees is measured with a goniometer and marked with a pencil. The excess is cut off and the casing is temporarily set aside;

  • repeating the entire sequence, the parallel side is marked;

Tip: the top trim is prepared last, only after both side strips have already been cut and installed. This will prevent errors in marking and exclude the possibility of the formation of cracks at the junction.

  • after both side trims are cut off, their installation begins. Carnations are driven into the door frame, after which, with the help of wire cutters, the hat is removed from them, leaving a sharp corner. The length of the stud on the surface for installing the casing is approximately 5 mm;
  • nails are hammered with a distance of about 50 cm. Usually they are placed at the top, bottom and two in the middle;

  • for better adhesion of the casing to the box, glue is applied to it. At this stage, the main thing is not to overdo it, and when pressed, the glue should not squeeze out;

  • when nailing the bar to the door frame, it is not recommended to hit it directly. For this purpose, a wooden block wrapped in cloth;
  • having attached the finished casing and leveling it, with strong blows through the bar we put it on nails;
  • when both side platbands are installed, the marking of the top one begins. Both of its 45-degree angles are measured not by a goniometer, but by directly applying it over the side planks and drawing the cut point with a pencil.

Door frame installation completed.

Nuances when installing platbands

The presence of a nail or self-tapping screw can be made invisible with a wax corrector or acrylic sealant of a suitable color.

To avoid gaps in the joints of the platbands, the angles of the upper bar are measured according to the cuts of the vertical bars, taking into account their errors.

It happens that the platbands at the junction have a discrepancy. This is due to the unevenness of the walls or the curvature of the planks themselves due to improper storage. Fixing this is quite simple, just connect the planks together with a finishing nail.

If minor gaps are found, they are masked with an acrylic sealant or wax corrector of a suitable color.

When there are significant defects around the box, a wide door trim is suitable for masking them. Its width is 10-12 cm, and with individual order maybe even more.

If you are wondering how to glue the trim, then you can choose from several options. With perfectly smooth walls, liquid nails are used. Also, for additional fixation when installing on nails, acrylic glue or PVA is used, which lubricates back side clypeus. But it should be noted that there is only one really reliable fastening - on carnations.

As mentioned above, the installation of door frames is final stage all repair work. The platbands are mounted flush on the end, and visually it seems that on the wall. The most popular method of fastening is on thin carnations with a small hat. In the event that the platbands need to be fixed directly to the wall, liquid nails are used, but this method of fastening does not give a long-term guarantee.

For an interior door, the platband should be 10 cm higher than the doorway. Standard installation platbands are made with a cut at 45 degrees, but you can also do it at an angle of 90 degrees - it looks a little unusual.

If the opening in the wall is located on the side or is in contact with an adjacent wall, then the casing will not fit completely. It will be possible to cut beautifully in width only with an electric end saw. Accuracy for the platband is especially important, because its main role is decorative ornament and masking all the irregularities of the wall and the end of the door frame.

But there are cases when platbands are not needed, for example, a bathroom whose walls are tiled. They will not only look out of place there, but it will also be impossible to attach them. The only one possible way fasteners are liquid nails, but given high humidity premises, they will not last long.

For very wide (thick) walls, door frames are also not the best way. In this case, the slopes can simply be painted, wallpapered or plastered. Also, in most cases, door frames are not required when installing compartment doors.
