Is it possible to put a plastic window in the steam room. Bath windows: where to put and what sizes. Wooden window installation technology

The number, shape and size of windows in the bath are thought out at the design stage. Unlike a residential building, a bathhouse needs natural light much smaller, but it is impossible to do without windows at all. When choosing, one should take into account not only their parameters, but also the material from which they are made, the number of chambers, the quality of the connections, the presence or absence of vents and sashes.

Advantages

Modern wooden windows are significantly different from those that were made 10 years ago. Thanks to special processing and assembly technology, such structures have high tightness, resistance to weathering, perfectly tolerate temperature fluctuations and high humidity. Increased service life wooden windows.

The main advantage of wood has always been considered its ability to "breathe", which contributed to the creation of a favorable microclimate in the room. Unfortunately, the use of various protective impregnations, paints and varnishes has reduced this ability to a minimum. However, wooden frames have many other benefits:

  • wood looks more solid and more aesthetically pleasing than plastic;
  • the wooden surface accumulates heat better, so such frames are always warmer to the touch;
  • wood is much easier to restore if small scratches or scuffs appear on it.

Many craftsmen make wooden frames on their own, and the cost of such products is much lower than factory ones. And although they are noticeably inferior in quality, with the right choice of wood and proper care wooden windows last for decades.

disadvantages

The disadvantages of factory wooden windows can only be attributed to their cost, which significantly exceeds the cost plastic products. As for homemade windows, they have a little more minuses:

  • when waterlogged, the wooden elements swell, the window closes and opens with difficulty;
  • wood dries out over time, cracks and cracks appear;
  • products are often damaged by insects and mold;
  • windows need regular and high-quality care.

In order for such windows to serve as long as possible, you should choose the right material for manufacturing, be sure to use protective impregnations when assembling the product, and follow the installation technology. Depending on the operating conditions, every 3-4 years the frames need to be inspected, treated with a primer or tinted.

Wood selection for windows

The cheapest and most unpretentious wood is pine. It is easy to process, very resistant to moisture, not afraid of temperature changes. But when heated, resin is released from it, so pine is not suitable for windows in a steam room.

Oak, beech and larch have good strength and durability, and it is from them that windows to the bathhouse are most often made.

For those who appreciate medicinal properties tree, the best choice there will be ash, linden or aspen, which, moreover, emit pleasant aroma when heated.

In the factory, windows are assembled from glued laminated timber, mainly pine. But there are combined models, when a layer of oak is applied to a pine beam. The cost of such windows is lower, and in terms of quality they are practically in no way inferior to oak ones.

There are also models from expensive exotic species, such as mahogany. They look very presentable, have a beautiful structure, pleasant to the touch. But mahogany has a significant drawback: it does not tolerate low temperatures, when freezing is covered with cracks. And even when using protective impregnations, the service life of the material will be less than that of oak, ash or other familiar species.

If you plan to make windows yourself, special attention should be paid to the quality of the material. Overdried wood, regardless of species, will not last long. Too wet is deformed after the frame is assembled and the window will be skewed. Blanks with knots, infected with a fungus or with other defects are also not suitable for these purposes. You need to choose a strong and dense timber, with a moisture content not higher than 12%, without wormholes and dark spots, light on the cut. Only from such material will you get a strong reliable frame for the window.

Plastic windows

The popularity of PVC windows is growing every year. They are suitable for any premises - industrial, residential, public, so they can also be used in the bath. Of course, we are talking about a dressing room, a rest room or a washing room, because plastic has no place in the steam room, even the highest quality.

Advantages of PVC windows

Plastic windows have a lot of advantages:

  • they are durable;
  • do not absorb moisture, and therefore are not subject to swelling;
  • resistant to temperature changes;
  • tight, have excellent sound insulation;
  • do not need care;
  • easy to use - easy to open for ventilation.

Best for bath double-glazed windows which provide high thermal insulation and tightness. Such windows retain heat, even when it is twenty degrees below zero outside. standard plastic windows white color, but if desired, you can order products with frames of any shade or with imitation natural materials. The most popular coatings imitating oak, pine or mahogany.

disadvantages

First of all, plastic, even very high quality, cannot be healthy. It does not allow air to pass through, which means that condensation and stuffiness appear in a closed room. When heated, plastic emits harmful fumes, and the worse the quality of the material, the greater the harm to health. Low grade plastic emits harmful substances even when room temperature, which is why it is impossible to purchase windows without an appropriate certificate, at a low price and from resellers.

Plastic has another drawback - it is easy to damage. Cracks can occur from a blow to the frame, scratches form during mechanical action. It will not be possible to eliminate such defects, and the attractiveness of the window is reduced from this. The only way out is to replace the entire structure, and this requires additional investments.

It is quite difficult to break modern plastic windows, but cracks after impact cannot be avoided.

Plastic windows differ in size, configuration, quality of fittings and profile, number of chambers. Everyone chooses the size and shape individually, depending on the dimensions of the room, its purpose and personal preferences. You can put small rectangular windows, square, in the form of trapezoids or triangles.

If the interior of the bath is decorated in nautical style, fit round windows imitating portholes on a ship. If the view from the bath is beautiful enough, you can install a wide panoramic window in the rest room or dressing room.

The quality of the profile and fittings is the most important criterion when choosing windows. Profile is very popular. German manufacturers, a little less - Turkish. You need to pay attention to domestic enterprises that produce windows together with German partners, using their technologies and equipment. Such windows have a lower cost, but the highest quality, already time-tested.

PVC windows can be blind and opening.

The second option is equipped with a special mechanism, which can be of three types:

  • turning;
  • folding;
  • tilt-and-turn.

The rotary method is the traditional opening of a window with a handle: the sash rotates along the vertical axis to the right or left, depending on the location of the hinges. With folding method top part the sash moves away from the frame at a certain slope. With the combined method, the sash moves both vertically and horizontally, it is enough to turn the handle in a certain position.

window opening mechanism

The number of chambers in a double-glazed window affects the heat and sound insulation properties of the structure. At the same time, the more cameras, the more expensive the window. A single-chamber double-glazed window consists of two glasses, between which there is an air gap, and in a two-chamber double-glazed window - three glasses and, accordingly, two air chambers. The most expensive construction equipped with triple glazing. Width of double-glazed windows: 24, 28, 30, 32 and 42 mm.

Profile chambers are cells in a plastic frame, which not only give the product rigidity, but also do not release heat. The more chambers, the more reliable and warmer the profile. The most common are three- and five-chamber profiles, although there are also six-chamber ones. For a bath, a five-chamber is more suitable, since it is wider, and it is possible to install thicker glasses.

In the manufacture combination windows metal, plastic and wood are used in various combinations:

  • wood - aluminum;
  • wood - plastic;
  • aluminum - plastic;
  • wood - plastic - aluminium.

The combination of two or three materials allows you to simultaneously increase the energy-saving properties and durability of the product. The most popular wood-aluminum and wood-plastic structures.

There are several ways to make combination windows.

1 way. The frame and jumpers are made of aluminum or plastic, and inside sheathe wooden lining. The overlays have a distinct texture and completely cover the profile, making the window look wooden from the inside. For more decorative and protection against small scratches linings are covered with two layers of varnish.

2 way. The window frame is made of glued laminated timber, and then closed with outer side aluminum or plastic panels using special clamps. Between the clamps and the tree remains air gap, which provides ventilation and prevents the wood from rotting.

3 way. Two frames are assembled: the outer one is made of metal or plastic, the inner one is made of wood. Connect the frames together with brackets around the perimeter. Instead of double-glazed windows, ordinary glass is used. If necessary, the frames can be easily separated and leave only one.

Combined windows assembled in the 2nd and 3rd way can also be installed in the steam room: the metal or plastic is outside, all connections are sealed, so there is no risk of getting burned or inhaling harmful fumes.

Window sizes and locations

The bath should not have many windows, because each of them increases heat loss. It is believed that total area windows should not exceed 5% of the floor area in the bath, and the dimensions of each window should not be more than 60x80 cm. Usually, the largest window is made in the rest room and dressing room, small narrow ones are placed in the washing room and in the steam room. The shape is most often square or rectangular, although curly designs are also found.

Windows are needed not so much for lighting as for ventilation, so it is desirable that they all open or have at least a window. The most convenient are double-leaf windows with double frames.

steam room

The main function of the window in the steam room is ventilation. It is opened to remove excess steam if it gets too hot, and after bath procedures, to dry the room faster. For the most effective ventilation, it is recommended to make two narrow windows above the upper shelf, 20x40 cm in size, in the steam room.

Advice. If you put a window in the steam room, install heat-resistant glass from the inside, and ordinary glass from the outside. With strong heating of the steam room, simple glass can crack, and this increases the risk of injury.

washing

In the washing room, one window is enough, a little larger than in the steam room. Here, too, ventilation is very important, so it is not advisable to install a blind window. So that those who wash themselves are not visible from the outside, the window opening should be located at a height of 1.5 m. If lower, frosted glass can be used.

Dressing room and lounge

In these rooms, you can put large windows, especially if they open good view. Of course, the frames must be double, all connections are sealed. If there are 2 or 3 windows in the room, only one can be made hinged, this is quite enough for ventilation.

Installation Features

Baths from a bar shrink for a long time after erection. If the windows are installed in the openings immediately, the frames are deformed, the connections will lose their tightness. To avoid this, you need to install windows, observing a 5-10 cm gap between the upper casing bar and the beam or log from which the walls are made. There is no such problem in stone and brick baths, so you can install windows immediately, without any extra gaps.

You can install windows with double-glazed windows on your own, but only if you have already had to do this. The installation of such structures has certain subtleties that an ignorant person does not even know about. Failure to comply with the technology can lead to damage to the profile and depressurization of the double-glazed window. Simple wooden windows are easier to install, although skill is required here.

The choice of windows for a bath is a rather responsible process. They are not just an element of the interior, but a guarantee of comfort and warmth. Everything matters here: appearance, reliability, functionality and safety in operation. Therefore, make a choice deliberately and without haste, carefully studying and comparing different kinds structures.

Video - How to choose windows for a bath

During the construction of a bath, the question certainly arises: how many, in what room should there be windows, where should they be located and what sizes should they be made. One thing is clear: the principles that are used to determine the size of the glazing of houses and apartments are not suitable here. The conditions are completely different and the tasks at the windows too.

Many people think that there is no need to make a window in the steam room: you need to keep the temperature and steam to the maximum. But this approach has many disadvantages: there is no window, how will you dry and ventilate the steam room? After all, there is no way to do without it. Of course, there is a way out - effective, but its arrangement is not an easy task. Windows are easier. And it is even better and more efficient to make both windows and ventilation at once. One does not interfere with the other, but you need to dry the bath thoroughly. Then there will be no problems.

In general, experts on Russian baths say that two windows must be made in the steam room. The first - the main one - is done in the wall opposite the door. They make it over the shelves - this is for those who need it when soaring Fresh air. The dimensions of this window can be small - so that you can stick your head out (this is if it gets too hot) or lower the temperature if you suddenly “melt it”. His task is also to organize ventilation between the baths. You open it, open the doors, there is a quick change of air, the so-called burst ventilation. After everything closes and the temperature rises again. It no longer takes a lot of time: both the walls and the floor / ceiling are warmed up, and it takes fifteen to twenty minutes to heat the air.

The second window - auxiliary - is located under the shelf. It can generally be small and opaque. His task is to dry the shelves. This is usually the most "stagnant" zone, where problems with wood most often begin. If you have a window there, the problem will largely be solved.

The bathhouse is being built frame, but the windows in the future steam room have already been installed - one main, the second - deaf to ventilate the shelves

All windows in the steam room are closed during the procedures. Sometimes, for women, for example, the window at the top is slightly opened. Before and after the bath, they are fully opened in order to renew and refresh the atmosphere.

Where to make a window in the steam room

For the "main" window, it is important not so much the size of the glazing as its location. After all, to achieve high humidity in the steam room of a Russian bath is possible only if there is a “pocket” under the ceiling in which steam accumulates and is retained. To prevent steam from escaping when the doors are opened, the doors to the steam room are made low. From the finishing ceiling to the top edge of the door, there should be a distance of at least 60 cm. So, the top edge of the window should be flush with the top edge of the door. This means that the window is low. The dimensions of the main window in the steam room are 40 * 40 cm or 50 * 50 cm. Something like this.

The windows are small and low-lying - they should not interfere with the collection of steam

An additional window, the one under the shelf, can be made even smaller. It can generally be made from boards or a layer of insulation can be laid between two glasses. The main thing is that it opens and makes it possible to dry the steam room.

Another point: for safety reasons, all windows in the bath should open inward. Consider this when planning and do not forget when buying or making.

Washroom window

A window in the washing room is required for two reasons: to ventilate the premises by adding oxygen and so that in case of a fire you can get out through it. Here, based on these considerations, and choose its location and size. Just don't save too much: safety and good air are very important things. Here is one of the reviews:

“In my bath in the shower room I did small window: its size is about 300 * 300 mm, glass is about 220 * 220 mm. I thought that it would be enough for ventilation, but I didn’t do more - thieves would not crawl into such a small one, and there was no need to put a grate. So. Ventilation is not enough even in winter. You have to open the doors to the rest room, and flash your bare ass. In the summer it’s like that, kirdyk - I open the doors to the street. So do not make small windows in the sink. Regretted a hundred times. It's better to half open than to suffocate"

Wooden or plastic

More and more wooden windows are being replaced by plastic ones. The baths were no exception. This is exacerbated by high humidity. And wood, as you know, strongly absorbs moisture and swells as a result. So they put windows and or plastic ones. With "cold" rooms, everything is clear, but is it possible to put plastic window to the wig? Depends on how you heat the bath. If the temperature, as it should be in a Russian steam room, does not exceed 70°C, then there are no problems. If you accelerate it to 100 ° C and above, then definitely use only wood, and not resinous: at such temperatures, it begins to “cry” with molten resin. Here are some reviews on the use of different materials in the steam room:

“I have had plastic windows in the steam room for the third year. All the way. But I don’t heat up above 65 ° C, more steam, lower temperatures - that’s what I like ”

A steam room and two windows in a Russian bath is the norm

“I have almost the entire bathhouse made of pine, except for the ceiling (it is made of aspen) and the floor - I made it from larch. The windows are pine, varnished on the outside, nothing on the inside. When I drown, condensation flows over the glass, but the wood is dry and does not rot. The tree took, the tree gave. I dry only well, I don’t close the windows / doors for a long time. In our village, there is no one to lock ourselves from.”

One glass or two

To keep the heat in the bath, it is desirable to install double glazing. Moreover, it is better - with maximum sealing. But, if the window is set correctly and there is a pocket for steam, then its effect on the preservation of heat and steam is not critical. Why then put double frames? Yes, to prevent condensation. It drips onto the windowsill, then down onto the wall. Why in these places the tree begins to rot. Under the windows, and the lower crown - this is where fungus and rot appear first of all. Therefore, double glazing on sauna windows is a measure against rotting wood.

Bathroom window installation

No matter how small the window is, you need to put it in a wooden bath correctly. And that’s right — it’s with casing. This is a special board that takes on all the loads that occur during the shrinkage of the log house.

In general, it is advisable not to install windows and doors until the main shrinkage of the wood has passed. To do this, the log house must stand for at least a year. After this period, you can cut holes in the wall and proceed with the installation of the window.

When marking a window or doorway, you need to use. The accuracy of the building level in such a responsible matter should not be trusted.

A hole in the log house is cut out or chain. The lower edge of the window opening should fall approximately in the middle of the log, if the frame is made of round logs. Then the window sill will be installed.

The next step is the formation of a spike on the side surfaces. It should be about 50 mm wide and 50 mm high. We make the appropriate markup. Then, using an electric saw, we make a cut along the markings with a depth of about 50 mm. Now from the sides, stepping back from the edge of 50 mm, we make another cut along the cut - on the right and left. Its depth is almost to the surface of the spike. Do not try to make the extra pieces fall off immediately. With insufficient skill, it is easy to saw off the very spike that we are doing now. It is better to slightly undercut, and then quickly finish everything with an ax and level it with chisels.

Further, according to the technology, the window opening must be treated with antiseptics. It is very desirable to use them, but you need to take impregnations for baths and saunas that do not emit harmful substances when heated. After the impregnation has dried, fill a strip of jute tape around the perimeter of the window opening. They fasten it, as usual, to the brackets from. Nailing the thermal insulation onto the sidewalls with a spike, try to keep the tape tightly adjacent to the spike: then you will need to put a casing bar on this spike.

The next stage is the manufacture of casing. For big window take a bar 100 * 100 mm or 100 * 200 mm. The height of the side strips should be slightly less than the height of the window opening. A little less, it is 2-3 cm for a settled log house and 5-7 cm for a fresh one.

On one side of the bar, longitudinal markings are made: a groove 50 mm wide is marked. Cuts are made to a depth of 40-42 mm. But in this case, the middle between the two cuts is removed. Thus, in the middle of the bar you get a notch - a groove. We level the edges with a chisel and a chisel (you can use a hammer). This part is also treated with antibacterial impregnations.

The made sidewalls of the casing are mounted on a spike, which was cut out earlier in window opening. He should enter tightly, you will have to knock. It is no longer attached to anything, it is held due to the elasticity of wood fibers.

As a result, it turns out that the casing bars are shorter than the opening, and there is a gap to the top. He will protect window frame from damage if the log house settles. A thick board is attached to the sidewalls from above - it will be the support for attaching the top of the frame. The gap remaining between the board and the crown is filled after the frame is installed with a heater. A board is also attached to the bottom, which will serve as the basis for the window sill.

Now the window opening is ready for installation of the frame. Further, the technology is no different from in a brick or block structure.

What did we get, and why do we need casing at all? It turned out that our window is attached not to the frame, but to the casing. And it is not rigidly connected with the log house, but has the ability to move. There is also a fairly decent gap at the top, which will compensate for the shrinkage of the bath. All this together will not allow you to break the frame when moving. Using this technology, you can install windows (and doors) even in a fresh log house. Perhaps you will understand more if you watch the video. Here, plastic windows are installed in the log house, but the manufacture of the casing does not change.

Another option for installing a window - with the formation of a groove instead of a spike - is shown in the video.

Plastic windows have recently become increasingly popular due to their performance characteristics. Therefore, many, engaged in the construction of a hygienic building on the site, are thinking about whether it is possible to put plastic windows in the bath. The answer is ambiguous. In the steam room, the installation of such windows is unacceptable, since the design of the double-glazed window made of artificial material cannot withstand high temperatures. But for the auxiliary premises of the bath is a great option.

Features of the use of plastic windows in the bath

Before deciding to install PVC double-glazed windows in a bath, you need to weigh all their advantages and disadvantages. Among the advantages of these structures:
  • Reliable thermal insulation. One of the most important factors for a bath. The design of plastic windows is designed to minimize heat loss in the room.
  • Durability. Service life of windows artificial materials significantly more than wood products.
  • moisture resistance. Plastic does not absorb moisture, does not deteriorate and does not become moldy at high humidity, which makes it possible to install such structures in the washing department.
  • Ease of operation. PVC windows do not need additional processing antiseptics or regular painting.
  • Resistant to temperature changes. A sharp increase or decrease in temperature does not affect operational properties such windows.
  • good ventilation. The installation of such structures makes it possible to provide high-quality ventilation bath rooms.
  • Strength. Unlike wooden models plastic ones don't warp.
  • Wide variety of models. To combine with the color and texture of the log house, you can choose windows in a case with wood coloring.
In addition, insects do not start in the plastic frame, which is also important for structures exposed to high humidity. It has excellent soundproofing characteristics.

With all the advantages, plastic windows are not without disadvantages:

  1. Poor air flow leading to condensation.
  2. Easily damaged surface, cracks and scratches on which it is impossible to clean.
  3. Substantial expansion range. In cold weather, there is a significant compression of the body, in hot weather- extension.
  4. Artificial PVC material considered unsafe for health when exposed to high temperatures.

Whatever the pros and cons of plastic windows, it is better to put wooden structures in a steam room in a wooden bath.

The technology of installing a plastic window in the bath

Installing a PVC window in stone or brick baths does not require grooves. As for installation in a log house, here it is worth considering its shrinkage. Therefore, finally plastic construction fixed in a wooden bath a few years after construction. Wooden windows can be fixed after a year due to the flexibility of the material.

Preparing to install a PVC window in a bath

The market offers many models for the implementation of various design projects and in different price ranges. When choosing a plastic window for a bath, keep in mind that it is better to give preference to rectangular structures with triple glazing for better heat saving. As for the size of window structures, then optimal width is 0.6-0.8 meters, and the height is 0.4-0.6 meters.

It is desirable that the plastic window is fully opened or equipped with a window. This is necessary for high-quality drying of the room, which will increase the service life. wooden elements in the bath.

Particular attention should be paid to accessories. It must be made of moisture-resistant metal (brass, copper) so as not to succumb to corrosion. Such parts are usually equipped with models for installation in high humidity conditions.

Even at the construction stage, it is necessary to consider the size and placement of windows in the steam room. There is a generally accepted rule: the area window openings should occupy about 5% of the floor area of the bath. Usually they are placed in length parallel to the floor - no higher than 1 meter from it. Otherwise, heat loss will increase.

Casing device in the bath for a plastic window

This design is an independent frame for the window block, which is fixed on the wall with a special groove. Thanks to her, the double-glazed window is not damaged during the shrinkage of the log house.

Installation of casing for PVC windows is carried out as follows:

  • We cut a groove of 25 cm 2 on the sides of the window opening.
  • We clean the completed niche from dust, wood shavings and treat it with an antiseptic composition.
  • We cut out a block of wood with a section of 10 cm 2 and a length of 15 cm.
  • We put a rolled insulation in the hole made in the opening.
  • We install a bar on top of the heat-insulating layer.
  • We fix the side posts of the casing box on the bar. As fasteners, we use galvanized nails and self-tapping screws, which in no case should be fixed in the wall.
  • We mount the upper and lower jumpers, leaving space for the heat insulator between the frame and the main wall.
  • We insulate the holes near the jumpers.
  • We insert the window structure into the frame.
  • We attach platbands outside and inside with galvanized nails or self-tapping screws.

If desired, you can purchase ready-made industrial glued casing.

Do not forget, before installing a plastic window in the bath, carefully soak all the elements of the casing box with an antiseptic.

Instructions for fixing a PVC window block in a bath

After complete shrinkage of the log house, you can not only proceed to finishing premises, but also to the installation of windows. We carry out work in the following order:
  1. We remove the casing box.
  2. The cracks that appear during shrinkage are carefully sealed.
  3. We re-treat the wood with an antiseptic composition.
  4. We attach a foil tape made of polyethylene foam to the wood of the log house and the casing.
  5. We attach window block mounting plates or long self-tapping screws passing through a wooden box and a plastic case.
  6. We install the window, freeing the frame from the sash, carefully removing the pin with a screwdriver from the upper eyelet and the sash from the bottom.
  7. We check the position with the building level and, if necessary, correct it. Body kits can be used to control vertical lines.
  8. We fix the scythe box on additional fasteners. To do this, you can screw the screws through the pre-drilled holes.
  9. Blowing out the space between the casing and the hull mounting foam down up.
  10. Cut off after curing extra plots hardened foam.
  11. We tightly fasten the platbands.
  12. We mount the ebb under a slope from the window opening, foaming the resulting gap under it.

Within 16 hours after installation, it is undesirable to use a window to maintain the integrity of the seam. For three days you need to make slopes.

When choosing windows for a bath, preference is given to products made of PVC or wood. During installation, there are difficulties, but in general, everyone can cope with this task. When installing windows in a bath, do not forget to consider what material the building itself is built from - wood, brick or concrete. This depends on the installation method. Which windows for a bath are better and how to install them according to all the rules, read below.

Windows in the steam room of the bath and their dimensions: is it possible to install plastic windows?

Installing windows in the bath on your own is quite realistic. To begin with, it is worth choosing which ones are suitable - plastic or wooden - each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Is it possible to put plastic windows in the bath, namely, in the steam room? Insofar as high temperatures unacceptable for PVC products, plastic windows are not installed in the steam room.

They are more suitable for a rest room. Windows must be resistant to corrosion and with high quality fittings.

PVC double-glazed windows have many positive qualities: durable and not subject to deformation, do not need regular painting, have excellent sound insulation, are not afraid of steam and dampness. Disadvantages of installing plastic windows in the bath: non-natural material does not pass air well, as a result, it becomes stuffy in the room.

Wood has its advantages: it is environmentally friendly, well withstands temperature changes. Humidity is best tolerated by linden, it is not subject to rot and mold, so frames made from such wood will last a long time. Minus: wooden structures need regular staining.

The durability of a wooden window is more than 50% dependent on proper installation, since it is operated in conditions of high humidity and constant temperature fluctuations.

The window in the steam room of the bath should be small. Perfect Size windows in the bath - 60 x 80 cm in size, since bright lighting is not required, and heat in the steam room is even in winter time better preserved.

Improper installation of wooden windows can lead to cracks in the glass, distortions, and the entire frame falling out of the opening.

How to insert a wooden window in the bath

Before installing a window in the bath, measure the opening, previously cleared of debris: this will determine the dimensions and configuration of the window. Measurements are carried out with a building level, laser tape measure or plumb line. It is best to beat off on opposite sides of the opening two horizontally and vertically. During installation, as a rule, they are guided by a smaller figure. In addition, before inserting a window into the bath, it is necessary to take into account gaps of 1-2 cm above and on the sides, as well as 5-6 cm below. You can install a wooden window in a brick or concrete bath in one of three ways: on anchors, using mounting blocks and on dowels.

Installing timber windows on anchors is suitable for skewed openings with irregular dimensions. Anchors are special metal plates with mounting holes. Anchors are fixed with screws at the ends to the frame so that they look inward (later they will be hidden behind slopes). The frame with anchors is mounted in the opening and leveled with mounting blocks. After that, through the holes in the anchor plates, the places for drilling the anchor with dowels are marked on the walls. The block is removed, the gaps formed are filled with the selected insulation, the window sill is mounted and.

The method using mounting blocks is suitable for the windows of the washing room of the bath, since silicones and mounting foam cannot be used in the steam room.

Mounting blocks- these are pieces of a rail or board, equal in thickness to the gap between the box and the window opening. First, the support blocks are mounted, and then the spacers. When the frame is finally leveled, they are removed one by one and the holes left after them are filled. construction silicone. Then they are returned back and fixed with silicone, like glue. Next, the pads and gaps are filled with mounting foam. The influx of foam after solidification is cut off, and the slopes.

Installation of wooden windows on dowels- the most versatile and most reliable way which is suitable for all bath rooms.

Holes are made in the frame for fasteners. The extreme ones should be at a distance of 15-20 cm from the corners, the rest - evenly between them. The pitch between the holes is up to 60 cm. The length of the dowels is calculated using the following formula: L = gap width + frame thickness + 80 mm.

For example, if the frame thickness is 60 mm and the gap width is 30 mm, then the length of the suitable dowels is 170 mm.

The wooden frame is mounted in the opening and leveled using building level and mounting blocks. Through the holes in the frames, mark the places on the walls where there will subsequently be holes for the dowel sleeves. Then the frame is set aside and holes are drilled in the walls deep, equal to the length sleeves, + 30 mm. Having driven the dowels into the holes, they return the frame to the opening, and the nails to the sleeves. The pads are removed and filled with any material natural origin suitable for a bath: moss, jute, linen fiber, etc.

The installation of windows in a wooden bath has its own characteristics, since both the log house and the timber shrink. In the first year, a building 3 m high, settles by approximately 3-5 cm. For another 5-6 years, it continues to settle, and throughout the entire period of operation it is constantly deformed, either swelling or shrinking. Therefore, if the window frame is installed close to the opening, over time, the crowns of wood will put pressure on it, which will cause the destruction of the glass and frame. To avoid this, the box is attached to the casing (pigtail) - this is an additional box that takes on the weight of the settling bath frame.

Installation of wooden windows using pigtails begins with the measurement of the opening. He must be large sizes than when installing a window in a concrete or brick bath. For casing, bars 100 × 150 mm are used (it is important to consider when calculating the size of the window). The gaps between the casing and the opening on the sides should be 20 mm, and on top - at least 70 mm.

When installing a wooden window in a bath, the casing is fastened with one's own hands in two ways: using a mortgage bar or a spike. If a mortgage bar is used, then holes-grooves are drilled on the sides of the window opening, they are laid thermal insulation material, after which the bars are inserted. Then attach side walls- casing to the bars with nails or self-tapping screws.

When fastening with the use of a spike, spikes are cut out on the side of the window opening, and grooves on the casing posts. The pigtail is put on the opening, if necessary, it can be easily disassembled. Then the window is attached with screws only to the pigtail. If you do not want to make holes in the box, then anchor plates can be used for fastening.

How to put a window in the bath: possible mistakes

There are several possible errors installation of wooden windows in the bath:

1. In case of incorrect measurement of the opening a, without taking into account expansion due to heat, deformation of the frame may occur, a crack in the glass may appear, as well as too tight closing of the wings.

2. When installed not clearly vertically and horizontally, the sashes will warp, close poorly, and the fittings will quickly wear out.

3. With a poorly made junction of the wooden window frame in the bath, condensation forms on the glass.

4. Due to overtightened, too tight fasteners, a wave-like deformation of the frame occurs.

5. When installing wooden windows in a sauna without casing, the frame can quickly deform, and the glass can become cracked.

How to install plastic windows in the bath

Before you put a window in the bath, carefully measure the openings. Openings with a quarter are typical for buildings made of foam concrete. For openings without a quarter, a window 5 cm less than the equivalent opening parameter will be required. Therefore, 3 cm must be subtracted from the obtained width value.

Along the contour, it is necessary to provide gaps of 1.5 cm for subsequent foaming and another 3.5 cm from below for the window sill.

For an opening with a quarter, measurements are made at the narrowest point, that is, 3 cm is added to the width, and the length value is left unchanged. Typically, these windows are not located in the middle of the opening, but retreating deep from the outer plane by a third. But when installing PVC windows, you can make an offset in any direction, which should be taken into account when ordering external sills and window sills. To the obtained, according to the location of the window, indicators of the width of these elements are added 5 cm each.

The installation of the frame does not depend on the number of chambers in double-glazed windows and the number of internal chambers in the profile, but on the size of the window and the material from which the bath is built. window construction can be reinforced with dowels or mounting anchors, which are inserted into the walls through drilled through holes in the profile. It is permissible to use toothed plates that are pressed into the profile and installed at a distance with fastening with screws. The first method is the most reliable and is suitable for large windows with impressive weight: a design equipped with doors that open in different positions are not afraid of any impact loads during operation. Anchors passing through the frame make it possible to precisely adjust the horizontal and vertical.

If the windows are small with blank double-glazed windows, they can be fixed with anchor plates: they will not spoil the appearance of the structure, since they will be hidden behind the slopes in the future.

It is advisable to make small recesses in the opening of concrete or brick under the anchor plates, which will avoid applying an additional leveling layer before installation. internal slopes. You can combine both methods: deepen the anchor into the walls through the side elements of the frame at the base of the window, and fix the top only with plates.

If PVC windows are installed in a wood bath, anchor plates should not be used, as they will loosen over time.

In this case, galvanized screws are used. Generally install PVC windows in wooden baths possible only 1-2 years after the completion of construction. Before installing a window, it is required to equip the opening wooden box, which will protect the entire structure from deformation. On such a box there should be no rot and different kind damage, before installation it must be treated with an antiseptic.

Even when the windows are installed, the shrinkage of the structure continues, although not as intensely. Therefore, between the box and the upper plane of the window opening, it is necessary to provide a gap of 3-7 cm. Its value will depend on the humidity and the building materials used.

After installation, the window must be filled with jute and closed on both sides with platbands.

The ebbs for a bath made of wood are used standard, supplied complete with a window. And the window sill is not only plastic, but also wooden.

Wood breathes and allows vapor to pass through, thereby reducing specifications mounting foam. So that it does not get wet, along its line, the window block is equipped with a foil-wrapped polyethylene foam tape. Mounting foam gives the necessary rigidity to the connection of the opening with the frame. So that the protective layer obtained during polymerization does not lose its technical characteristics, it is surrounded by layers of insulation.

Before you properly insert a window in the bath, take care of buying high-quality professional foam, and in the winter, during work, you will also need a special nozzle. How to properly perform foaming is described in detail in the instructions attached to the cylinder.

Foaming starts from the bottom, moving up in a circular motion. In order to avoid overspending of expensive material, the foam is not blown out immediately, but in several steps, in segments 25-30 cm long, evenly around the entire perimeter, without gaps and voids. The gaps between the window opening and the frame are filled if their size is not more than 4 cm. Large gaps are partially eliminated with pieces of timber, drywall, foam, etc.

The window block is attached using long self-tapping screws that pass through the wooden box and plastic frame. Less commonly, mounting plates are used for this purpose.

Next install the window. First, the frame is released from the sash, then the pin is removed from the upper hinge, gently prying from the bottom with a screwdriver or pliers. After that, the sash is removed from the lower hinge, slightly lifting it. If the windows are deaf, double-glazed windows are removed from them, having first removed the longitudinal and then the transverse glazing beads. To do this, a knife or spatula is inserted into the gap and carefully shifted so as not to damage the glass.

embed pvc window small size with the help of mounting plates it is possible without removing the double-glazed windows and sashes, since it is better not to violate the integrity of the factory structure. The structure is leaned against the wall flat surface, previously covered with cardboard or any soft material. It is forbidden to lay a double-glazed window flat, as well as to put it skewed: even a small pebble can lead to a crack.

With outer surface frames remove protective film and mark the places for installing the window. The recommended step is 40, maximum - 70 cm. It is permissible to deviate from the corners and the impost by 15 cm. If the use of mounting plates is meant, they are pre-attached to the frame with self-tapping screws.

Then make holes for long screws or anchor bolts, placing a drill for metal with outside frames. A frame is inserted into the opening, placing special plastic corners around the perimeter, which will allow for a gap; align it vertically and horizontally, slightly moving the corners. It is advisable to place spacers near the attachment point using an anchor or self-tapping screw: this will protect the frame from deformation.

If the bath is wooden, you need to immediately screw the self-tapping screw through the holes in the frame, but not all the way. On the walls of brick or foam concrete, points are marked through the holes in the frame, after which the frame is removed and holes are drilled. The frame is returned to its place and baited on fasteners.

Double manipulation of the frame is not required when fixing with anchor plates: they only need to be bent in such a way that they are tightly adjacent to the attachment point.

After checking the verticals and horizontals with the help of a plumb line and spirit level, the window is finally mounted. The fastening should not be tightened tightly, otherwise the frame will bend barrel-shaped. As soon as the hat is flush with the frame, screwing can be completed.

Next, you need to return all the dismantled parts in reverse order and check how efficient the whole structure is, fill the remaining gaps with mounting foam, close the seams with protective tapes from the inside and outside. A gap is formed under the drainage system, which also needs to be foamed, and installed with an inclination from the window, attached to the bottom profile with self-tapping screws.

After the foam has hardened, the window sill is mounted. Plastic window sill lead under the sweet clover by 2 cm. For a slight slope from the window, the entire space under the window sill is filled with mounting foam. Slopes are best done on the same day. The maximum break between these stages should not exceed three days.

The mounted plastic window for the bath cannot be used for 16 hours, so as not to violate the integrity of the installation seams.

Now you know how to properly install the windows in the bath - you can get to work!
